Here is a photograph of John Carver and Steve Stone that was tweeted yesterday from the game at Bramall Lane.
When you are born and bred in Newcastle and follow the team from being a toddler, you keep following the team no matter what you do and no matter where you are – so it wasn’t too surprising the two former Newcastle-born coaches were at the game.
John Carver and Steve Stone at Sheffield yesterday
They had a really tough time of it last season – didn’t we all – but of course we wish them the very best for their futures.
Believe me – life’s too short to bear any grudges – especially when we know John and Steve bleed black and white.
As Steve McClaren has said – we all need to stick together to have Newcastle United become successful again.

with regards to finishing in the top 8. I personally feel we would need to be extremely lucky with injuries as the squad currently stands. Like everyone else I think we are still short a 10mil plus CB and a decent supplier from the right wing.
Like you say tho Steve Mac in in a better position than me to make that call.

Comment #3You musn’t forget the Gary Speed connection either – he played for both clubs and managed Sheffield with JC as his assistant . Half of yesterdays receipts went to Speedo’s foundation.

Comment #7Shaqiri and Austin and we r done. It looks like Colo still at the heart of the defence. I think it is Colo and Mbemba next season.

Comment #8Would rather another cb like rudiger or matip than a striker.
Austin will move this far north.
Need to start moving the deadwood out this week.

Comment #9I also think that if we cannot sell some of these players we want out by January, they may find themselves released.
There is still just over a month until this window closes and a lot can happen in that time.
Ohhhhh the thought of Newcastle being active on a transfer deadline day.

I think we could, and if the right players are involved we will.
Some things just happen out of the blue and when we least expect them.
I still think (contrary to what chinless Charnley has said in the past) that work will continue into the January window, players both in and out.

Team doesnt look bad but if one of the signings gets injured then we r back to our old players who we dont trust any more. So we look like we doomed.
Its all to the injuries being on our side our back up is not that good its top 15 at most.
I think we r going to sign Shaqiri/Thauvin, Mbemba, Austin/Rolan, Mitrovic and Wijnaldum.
We r selling Abeid, Willo, Goufrann, Marvuex, Obertan.
Perez is being taken as a winger.
Injuries r key. If we keep fit we r good to go.
……………..Krul
Janmatt…….Mbemba……..Colo……….Haidara
…………..Wijnaldum…………Colback/Tiote
Sissoko…………….De Jong. ……….Shaqiri
…………………………Mitrovic
Thats a TOP 8 Team

Comment #13IMO Maclaren is saying this stuff because he wants to maximise the value of the players he has been told he has to sell before ashley will release the next tranche of money for the next three players.
If that numpty down in Palace wants to buy Colo even for 2 million then we should pack his bags for him and save the 3 million in wages as well because getting 5 million in essence for an ageing useless CB is good business.
This is all just transfer window psycho babble…we have got players lined up but Ashley has told McClaren he has to sell first and he has to achieve a certain amount of transfer income otherwise he won’t get any more money.
It’s how Ashley’s mind works…everything is incentivised and performance based.

Comment #14please ashley just one more centre back aswell as mbemba and we call it quits. But i just na thats not gonna be the case cos it would mean shifting atleast one more centre back probably williamson. only problem there is that they’re that junk nobody wants to touch them.

I think the players really for sale are Tiote, Colo, Cisse and Sissoko and they are the players that will create the finances to buy the two more key signings we need in this window…another CB and and someone who can operate in an advanced role / wing man

For me Sissoko could be sold, he will not be missed, he has a couple of flashes where you think, Yes he we go, but then he reverts to type, get his head down and runs with the ball but without an end product.
We have better and we could buy better.

We all dont really know wat Colo does in back ground all managers rate him even Derek respected him.
So Colo staying is ok with me. If we sell those players then its not improvement. I think the playerd were misled by Pardew showing them like the Top management didnt care so they all lost morale.
I will never forget the Westham game. We looked like a club from owner to fans.

Comment #23For godsake people if I see anther person quite a centre back pairing of Collo and Mbemba is “solid” and “top 8 quality” I’m gonna go mad.
How do you expect in the most physical league in the world we can compete with 2 6ft tall defenders. We come up against a tall striker and it’s over. We need a strong tall ball winner who will throw his head at the ball.
