Saying Goodbye to Fans – Chancel Mbemba’s Way

8:24 am, Monday, July 27th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 16 Comments

Chancel Mbemba is waiting to sign for Newcastle, and specifically he is waiting for his visa to be approved and before that can happen the FA must give Newcastle a Governing Body Endorsement.

That will not happen until Thursday when the FA will convene a panel to discuss it.

This is what happened yesterday when Mbemba was at the Anderlecht game in Brussels and was urged onto the field by the players to say goodbye to the home fans.

Anderlecht had just beaten Waasland-Beveren 3-2.

The video is doing the rounds on the Internet and it shows how well liked the player is.

Comments welcome.

I’m not overly worried about lack of signings this window, as fans we know what we need and we not expecting it.

We have brought in some decent talent so far, and my guess is that this season will be a survival season where we will give the new signings time to settle into the premiership before adding more new faces.

Next season or maybe the season after is where McClaren will try to fulfil his remit.

Defence is the biggest concern, but maybe McClaren intends to use some of the youngsters who knows?

He also had the likes of Good injured (again) who may come back and feature.

Mbemba and Coloccini should be enough to get us to January if they stay fit, it’s a gamble, but hey that’s what Mikey boy does best.

    Ashley Out!

As frustrating as it is we do have to bring in the right players. It looks like it could go right up to the last few hours of the window for the likes of Austin and Van Dijk for QPR and Celtic to reduce the fees. If these are two we are after.

Well it doesn’t look like we’ll be in the tree removal business just yet. Friendlies aren’t really the barometer of a teams health, except when we get to the last one or two before the PL kick off, because all the first team contenders should be showing up by then. I’m not totally dejected as SM hasn’t exactly had all the time in the world and has had a disastrous idea of a summer tour to contend with plus slow transfer deals hampering his selections. BUT we are running out of time to face Southampton with a decent shape and a functioning back four. Bring totally realistic, if it’s Willo, Colo, Janmaat and Dummet/Haidara on it’s day it’s a perfectly functional and serviceable back four. On it’s bad days though, and they can be many, it can fall apart especially when the defensive mid goes missing as it did end of last season. I’m hoping SM can do what previous incumbents couldn’t, instill fitness and awareness at the back, and a dogged concentration to shut out and close down when we aren’t scoring. If we do that we have a basis, it may be grim until January, but it will keep us in the safe zone.

I am still puzzled though, given the evident weaknesses in defensive mid and central defence, why transfer priorities were made elsewhere in the team. If this is because wage and contract structure still outweigh the footballing need, then they still haven’t learned their lesson. This looks like short term financial fire fighting at the potential expense of league safety.

Mbembas case is NOT an appeal

The rules changed about 2 years ago now the relevant governing body must endorse any work permit application by a club before it is submitted to the UK Government, cutting down on the number of requests made directly to Government which are unlikely to succeed first time.
It is just unfortunate we are in holiday time for a lot of folk.

Dont think we should be content though firebug. Even though it’s what Ashley does, we should be still voicing our concerns to the board. Going in with Mbemba. Colo Taylor Lascelles and Willo is just not competative enough. 3 of the latter were part of the pathetic defense last year. They should have pushed to get rid of Willo and Taylor as soon as the window opened. Willo is tripe Taylor is always injured. Colo and lascelles would be ok back ups for Mbemba and another quality Cb.

Realistically it is a tad worrying that our preferred cb pairing have probably only exchanged nods at the smoothie bar so far.

I think we are about done as far as in-comings for this window. Really cant see us spending anything else. Really hope im wrong but just have that feeling. This will be a telling week.

Maybe shooting for top 6 is stretching it a bit, but the official target is a top 8 finish! So 7 or 8 it is!

Is that realistically – I know anything can happen, but are we in a position to really say or team is good enough for that.

McC says it is and I think he should be judge on that…I know this club makes hollow targets – they usual mean nothing and usually there are no consequences.

We will hear that mistakes have been made but we’ll get a FF meeting too little too late taking about the future!

What future? I am still to be convinced anything has really changed for the better!

I think Maclaren is saying this stuff because he wants to maximise the transfer value for the players he knows he wants to sell.

We have too many players with only a year to go on their contracts and Ashley being Ashley will not want any of them to go without getting something for them now and getting them off the books to save the wages spend.

If that tosser down at palace really does want Colo then we’d be mad not to let him go even if it’s just for 2 million because we’d save another 3 million in wages so that’s like getting 5 million back for an ageing useless CB.

Cisse is definitely going because Maclaren has said we’re going to find a way to make Mitrovic and him work together LOL. Can you imaging those two fighting over the 6 yard box…my money’s on the psycho serb!

There’s no doubt Ashley has said you can have more money for more players but will also have said you have to get £x for player x and £y for player y and £z for player z and I’ll give another 25 million.

It’s all psycho babble to big up the values of who we want to sell (IMO Cisse, Tiote, Colo and Sissoko) so we can buy another CB and someone who can operate in an advanced midfield role or out wide

  • 11 firebug666 // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:47 AM

WestOzMagI would want more signings too, but it would be just as dangerous if we started out with two unproven CB’s an unproven midfielder and an unproven striker, unproven in the premiership.

If we had two centre backs who were not use to the physicality and pace of the the league we could be in just as much trouble, Bring in Mbemba now and get him bedded in between now and January, and in January buy another who can come in beside a now ready Mbemba for the second half of the season.

We should get that bloke with the big head, I bet he’s good in the air

  • 14 WLtoon // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:11 AM

Im getting a bit pi”,d off with the dealongs at the club now, the Mbemba deal is a joke.
Which other club has has to wait an eternity to bring in a player.
I also gree with one or two bloggers suggesting that the incomings are probably done.
If we were privy to what goes on behind closed doors maybe we would know that we might not have any interest in most of the targets the media are having led us believe.
I for one dont think that Ashley would allow a anyone to spend nearly 30M on one position,so the Austin deal is a no go IMO.
The optimism is slowly being replaced by pessimism ,and tbh,we should be used to it at a club which only just seems to do the bare necessitirs to stay up.
Time will rell whether history is repeating itself.
