Two Additional Players Expected At Newcastle This Week

5:29 pm, Monday, July 27th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 26 Comments

Immediately after the game yesterday Steve McClaren talked about not knowing whether there will be any new signings by Newcastle this summer, but he changed his tune a bit later on (for the better we may add) and said that he looks forward to one or two new players coming in this week to freshen up the place – so apart from Chancel Mbemba being one of them – it will be interesting to see who else we can get through the door this week.

I would be good if is a top class center-back which is what we are missing at the moment.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – coming back to Newcastle tomorrow

Steve seemed very happy at the way the lads played yesterday, especially in that first half,  but the legs weren’t there in the second half – which is hardly surprising when you think they had just returned from Oregon on Thursday.

It seems that lads may have got a direct flight back to England – and since it was around 4,700 miles, that would generally take about nine hours, and on nufcTV today they talked about the 10 hour flight  back home – hopefully they chartered a flight back directly to Newcastle – we certainly have the money these days and it would have been worth it.

This is some of what a pleased Steve McClaren said on nufcTV staring with the second goal in as many games for Gini Wijnaldum:

“That’s what Gini Wijnaldum is capable of doing, he can score, he kind of drifts into the box. Siem de Jong is exactly the same from the corner – drifted, unmarked and scores a goal, I’m pleased for both of them.¨

“Gini has came into the group and settled well, that was always key.” “We look forward to one or two more coming in this week, and freshening the place up.¨

“Chancel will have to wait and hopefully by the weekend everything will be sorted out, and I think Aleksandar Mitrovic comes back in on Tuesday.¨

“I’ve got to credit the players for what has been a really tough schedule over the last fortnight in terms of travel games and disruption and then coming to play this game.¨

“Chancel will have to wait and hopefully by the weekend everything will be sorted out and I think Aleksandar Mitrovic comes back in on Tuesday.

McClaren and the coaching team are doing a very good job of bringing the lads together – and hopefully the fans too –  so that we can have some very good team spirit next season and a winning attitude about the club.

That’s something that was decidedly missing last season – so that will be  a pleasant change.

It would also help to get off to a winning start at home to Southampton on August 9th, but that will be a tough game for the lads.

Comments welcome.

A quality centre half is a must. Got to be proven & not just hope value

  • 2 toonicle // Jul 27, 2015 at 5:37 PM

I’m afraid his “one or two this week” comment is referring to Mitro and Chance, as they technically haven’t joined up with the team yet.

Dummet Saylor, mbemba and lascelles with good waiting In the wings and that’s if we manage to offload Coco and Willo.
Can’t see a defender coming in as Dummet can cover left back as can Ferguson

Charlie- I wouldn’t think so, both seem to meet the criteria with no issues. But you never know when it’s up to the FA and the Board!

Here’s a pretty comprehensive list of criteria chancel will have to meet in order to officially sign for us and the chronical seem to think he will.

Coincidentally I think Greg dyke is a twat 😀

    Bambams

John Collins said this afternoon in an interview that they had not had s single bid for Virgil so far.

I’m not sure we stand a chance against the mighty York FC with our current defense. With our pensioners at CB it’s going to be difficult to win silverware any time soon. I’m trying to imagine how Mike will look at 90, still waiting for that first cup to raise above his heed. 😯

    AC

Don’t think BandB has a very high opinion of Mr Dyke either – apparently she worked under him on some news editing role.
Her description sounded about right. 😀

Hope to god Chancel isn’t the last one in the door, we are desperate for more signings, so much so, our whole season will rest on what we do between now and the close of this window

  • 22 WLtoon // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:10 PM

Yes we ARE desperate for new signings, and that is with the squad we have got atm.
God forbid Ashley does,nt do his usual stint and flog one of our better players at the last minute.

  • 23 JackButler // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:16 PM

I think we are pretty much odds on to lose at least one player in the last few days of the window, and as usual we will be slow off the mark and fail to replace whoever goes out. It’s happened so often that’s it’s almost a guarantee

  • 24 saxonfenken // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:40 PM

I am getting sick and tired of the so called NUFC supporters, at the least sign of negativity, they seemingly are in there element.
I am no Ashley lover, but without him the past regime would by now have made the club worst than Leeds. Never forget that.

  • 25 ron kasorga // Jul 28, 2015 at 1:19 AM

Why too many negativities mindset toonarmy here?

This is a new era with new coach and new players coming in !!! And for once give them space and time to excel ….for those who wants Asley out…its you who is no longer relevant here and Get Out please !!!

  • 26 mkhalaf // Jul 28, 2015 at 7:40 AM

I think Ed took what SM said out of context.
reading all of what he said, I believe he meant that the one or two players coming in this weak are mitro and chancel (if the visa is done)

    Correct me if im wrong
