Newcastle Have Bid Rejected For 20 Year-Old Frenchman

3:44 pm, Tuesday, July 28th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 236 Comments

Newcastle made some efforts in the January transfer window to sign AC Milan midfielder M’Baye Niang, but we were not successful in signing the 20 year-old,  who is a French U21 International and well regarded by Chief Scout Graham Carr.

Mbaye Niang

M’Baye Niang – 20 year-old 6ft French U21 International

Niang signed for AC Milan in 2012 but in the three years at the Italian powerhouse he has found it difficult to get games, although of course he’s still a young player.

He’s played 38 times for Milan and the Italian press are reporting we have had a bid turned down by the club.

Newcastle also were reported to have a bid for the players turned down in January and we’ve been tracking this player for some time now.

Niang started his career at Caen back in 2007, and joined Milan in the summer of 2012 on a three year contract, with Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham being three of the other English clubs – as well as Newcastle – interested in the winger at that time.

He has been on loan at Montpellier and Genoa to get games and at the French club from January he appeared 22 times with 5 goals and 2 assists and while at Genoa from January of late year he appeared 14 times with 5 goals and 3 assists.

It certainly seems that Newcastle ant this player on Tyneside as one for the future, so maybe we will go back in with a bigger bid?

Comments welcome.

All calculations based on single 220 kilowatt biomass boiler with new LPG back-up boiler as per Barrow Hall installation and worst case scenario of building a purpose built boiler-room fuel store if existing boiler room too small
Upgrades to internal systems not included in this estimated price. Only priced in 4100 kilowatts of energy per tonne of biomass fuel to keep estimates conservative
Cost of 8.3p per litre shows existing boilers are very in-efficient

    PS Ashley oot

Derek // Jul 28, 2015 at 3:25 PM Take that 50m and subtract the total amount we got for Cabaye, Debuchy, Mbiwa and Santon and how much is remaining?

    Have you forgot ….

Last summer we spent c£33M on Cabella, Jammnat, De Jong, Riviere, Perez, Darlow and Lascelles + signing on fees for Colback.

Because only Darlow and Lascelles were loaned out and De Jong, Riviere and Cabella only got three Prem goals between them its easy to forget the money spent last summer.

  • 3 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 28, 2015 at 3:50 PM

I dont understand this, Ed… are you saying our January bid was refused, or we have had one refused this summer? The headline suggest the latter, but the article suggest the former.

  • 5 JAMSHA // Jul 28, 2015 at 3:52 PM

theres no quotes sayn bid rejected wtf

  • 6 sparky55 // Jul 28, 2015 at 3:55 PM

hahahahaha…that’s what happens when you’re doing quotes and blogging at the same time

    meant to say….

IMO the deals to sell Colo and Tiote and Sissoko and Cisse have already been done but this year we’re doing it the right way round and not selling anyone until we’ve got all the players we want signed up first.

Once a striker and CB have been recruited, I think we’ll be selling the above to save on wages and get some money back into the coffers and I think we’ll get circa 32 million for those four and get rid of 240 grand a week in wages.

The squad we have now with another striker and another CB means all the above mentioned players are redundant IMO

  • 7 JackButler // Jul 28, 2015 at 3:56 PM

Just what we need, another midfielder, let’s hope this has no truth to it and that all our efforts are being focused on bringing in a top class centre half, to address a decades old issue of being terrible at the back

  • 8 Derek // Jul 28, 2015 at 3:59 PM

No I didnt forget, its just the wording of the last article makes it seem its a huge shock that Ashley is spending enormous amounts of money on additions to the squad.. but in reality 1) they are more like replacements to what we lost rather than additions, and 2) the net spend by Ashley, even if he forks out 50m this window, is not that great when you add up the last couple of seasons of outgoings/ingoings.

  • 9 ToonFromLeeds // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:00 PM

Hang on Villa want Williamson? hahaha

  • 10 JackButler // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:05 PM

Love the way the fact we spent money last season is brought up toothy an justify Ashley’s approach to running the club.

What we did last season, in fact what we have done over the past few seasons has seen us close to being relegated for a second time under Ashley.

It speaks volumes when an average manager like Pardew walks away from the biggest clubs he’s ever managerpd and is ever liked to manager because of the poor way we have been run.

So please, let’s not try and make excuses for Ashleys actions

  • 14 matt11_25 // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:20 PM

Why are people mad when we get linked to mids… especially young ones. Yes we need defense the MOST but this team needs added depth everywhere. It would be nice to sign some quality youngsters who can contribute when needed (off the bench, cups, cards, etc) that actually have potential to evolve into starters. They are cheaper now.

  • 15 matt11_25 // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:22 PM

    I wouldn’t call that exactly walking away…

  • 16 cyprus // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:25 PM

Still looking for players eh? Those 3-4 ‘maybe’ types who may or may not make it… while we already got our main targets.

I’m very impressed and, admit it, you are too.

Now, what shirt to wear in the CL games…

  • 17 beermonkey // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:27 PM

if he goes to a prem team we stand a chance of getting some goals back from him bumble was always worth a goal when we played against him

  • 18 santon3 // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:28 PM

actually Niang sometimes played as a striker for Milan and he is very very quick. he was playing as a striker in CL against barca. so he is not really a midfielder.

  • 19 Graeme // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:30 PM

Beer – He will look superb in a Man City, Arsenal, Manure shirt,
Just no doubt about it lol

  • 20 JackButler // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:34 PM

He did walk away though, he had what, five years left on his contract? and he walked away for a club like Palace all because he was derided by the fans and left out to dry by his boss, not saying I blame him , just saying it all comes down to how Ashley runs this club

  • 21 nut meg // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:40 PM

A bidding war perhaps ! It looks like Pardew wants to increase Palaces goals against total. lol.

  • 22 Rotonda heights // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:40 PM

djuricic looks a bit special. every time i see him he’s impressive. he really can create. Maybe serbia is where it’s at at the moment.

really don’t see the fuss over austin at all. 15m should be going towards one of rutiger, veltman, dunk, matip, nkolou, but sadly no longer abdennour.

  • 23 Blackley and Brownlie // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:43 PM

Pardew was derided by the fans because he is a bang average manager who thought the squad was good enough for Europe when many of us could see it would be lucky to avoid relegation.

  • 24 Munster Mag // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:49 PM

Jack in reality pardew walked out having kept his end of the bargain. Not one national journalist called him a failure, unlike some of the screamers here, many of whom predicted relegation for palace, completely incorrectly. I didnt like his football ( but to brand him a long ball mgr a la allardyce is incorrect) but he was undermined by both carr and ashley from early on. His work so far at palace has been excellent. Im glad we have a new coaching ticket though and am glad he is gone and hope he does crap even though he wont.

  • 25 Munster Mag // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:51 PM

Not arguing why he walked, just saying that he did walk and walking away from us for a club like Palace tells you all you need to know how we are being run

  • 29 ToonFromLeeds // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:56 PM

Got a plan…… sell Willo to Mackems, easy 6 pointer?

  • 30 ToonFromLeeds // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:57 PM

No Austin to Villa then, surely that means we’ll sign him

  • 31 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 28, 2015 at 4:58 PM

    Hows the ticker?

Doubt the mackems are desperate enough to sign willo 😀

  • 32 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:00 PM

Austin is a difficult one now. SMc tends to play one striker, and Mitrovic will bot want to be a bench warmer. If we sign Austin, it’s going to cause a problem. Also, Cisse will be off. Cant imagine having 3 number 9’s on the books

  • 33 ToonFromLeeds // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:00 PM

Morphine is great, until the pain starts to recede. Once the body no longer needs it for pain relief, the freaky sh1t starts happening. And they can’t just take you off it. It takes 2 days to wean you off.

  • 37 kilcline // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:05 PM

    @munster mag

Correct, Serbia have a great under 20 and under 21 teams. We should be all over their players. If it is a work permit issue that is where we need a European feeder club who don’t have that issue.

Still want rudiger in rather than going after a striker like Austin. Austin would still rather live than South.

  • 40 GeordieTwo // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:24 PM

What we’ve spent so far would be an absolute minimum amount based on Prem survival which is all that really matters to Ashley. The team had become so full of dead wood there was real danger we would go down. Sparky is dead on. We still have a very poor squad and we supposedly continue to look at 20 year olds with no Prem experience. The club is short on mature, experienced Prem players and yet we need to get rid of some of those because they are well past it or weren’t good enough in the first place. No real plan to make us top 8 contenders that I can see. Just survival in the Prem and bringing in a few youngsters with the hope at least one will excel and then be sold on. Nothing has changed really.

  • 41 GeordieTwo // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:25 PM

No it’s not dead YCMIU mate. It’s just resting….

Austin has one place to cone and that’s to NUFC. I think he made up his mind immediately Mcclaren was confirmed as Manager.

  • 45 GeordieTwo // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:28 PM

I’m looking forward to seeing Wij and Mit play though. And Perez. I hope he’s put some muscle on. As for Cabella, what did he spend the summer doing? More salsa lessons? Needs a bit of steel up his spine.

  • 46 Munster Mag // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:29 PM

Agree jack although i think ashley has upped his game re quality of players coaches etc. Not having charva around the place is er like a new signing. There is no way wiji wud have signed for pardew or charva. Macca has an international reputation and i think we need to develop a feeder link with a dutch club.

  • 47 GeordieTwo // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:30 PM

YCMIU what have you been up to mate? Severe hallucinations? Have you been smoking the serious ganja with Lee and Joe Kinnear again? All those planning sessions with Joe ranting about Lambeezee and Lee kissing a large photo of Mike’s arse. No wonder your recovery was slow mate.

  • 48 GeordieTwo // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:36 PM

Which of the following teams can we finish above next season?
    Man City
    West Ham
Possibly Everton? Swansea? So how are we going to finish in the top 8? We aren’t. Unless Mike leaves and other miracles happen, the best I can see us finishing is 10th or 11th. That’s not terrible considering we just finished 15th but I was looking forward to polishing several pieces of silverware for the club!!!

    NUFC 3 Italian Clubs 0

  • 54 GeordieTwo // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:45 PM

Had to rush off yesterday but I’m back to annoy people for a bit again. So we’re 1000/1 to win the league then? Hmmm good odds for a tenner. But don’t worry about collecting the winnings. We have a weak, weak squad which 3 players can’t possibly address. This mess has been building for years now thanks to Mike and his gang of merry idiots. It would take at least 3 years to make us a top 8 team but will Mike stick to any one plan long enough? And can Steve survive the criticism that is bound to come his way?

  • 55 GeordieTwo // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:47 PM

Yes, Steve Austin TFL mate, the Six Million Dollar Man. He can still run faster than Riviere even though he’s in his seventies!!!

  • 57 GeordieTwo // Jul 28, 2015 at 5:49 PM

Aymen Abdennour, central Monaco, has been linked in recent days to FC Barcelona getting itself to publish in L’Equipe holding a meeting between its representative, Abdelkader Jilani, and Ariedo Braida. Mundo Deportivo has reported on 20 June that the Tunisian defense of Monaco set was one of the players who liked Barca should reinforce the rear axle but now it does not contemplate an offensive tackle for him.

Five weeks ago it was still unknown Marc Bartra’s decision about his future. The march of Sant Jaume dels Domenys itself have led Barca to consider incorporating other central but now that possibility is contemplated.

Abdennour has not hidden clothing in public that Barca would be a dream come true but the fact is that there have been contacts for African approach the Camp Nou. His name has circulated as a possible destination hard Milan and Newcastle, among other clubs in the Premier League, but his offer openly and interpreted from Barça as a way to use the name of the entity Barca for better contract at another destination.

Completely agree mate, I’m right behind it and will probably end up getting one myself. I haven’t bought a shirt since 2008.

My point was more if they’re selling them to support a movement you’d have thought they’d have tried to have them released at the end of the season when there was so much discontent. Not after there’s a hint of optimism in the air.

  • 103 WWSBRD // Jul 28, 2015 at 6:37 PM

Maybe now is the best time, just to remind the powers that be that we have not just drifted into obscurity or fallen into line with the everything is all right now because we are spending some money.

They may need to be reminded that we are still there, that we will not give our hard earned to advertise questionable companies.

My post wasn’t having a go by the way, just giving my reasons for not buying replica shirts.

I don’t see where the Premier League or FA or anyone else could have a case about the shirt. It is just a shirt and it is not advertised as a legitimate sponsored item.

What exactly can they do, nobody is forced to buy a Newcastle official shirt, neither are they forced to by the alternative.

You can wear whatever you like, it is not against the law, and if anything it may open some eye to the types of sponsors being allowed.

  • 129 Ian Toon // Jul 28, 2015 at 7:22 PM

With the arrival of MACCA this is a great time for new beginnings at the toon. With new players and more on the way together with a whole new coaching staff which enables a new playing style. From the players perspective it also provides further opportunities for those who were not previously rated under the old regime to impress. A second chance as SM has said he wants to assess all the players at the club. It’s not only on here that opinions differ.
A clean slate to apply to all the players, maybe it could be applied by our fans too. Toon fans like most football fans are inclined to single out a few from the squad to be the subject of criticism – Obertan, Gouffran and currently Williamson spring to mind. With Shola finally leaving it was a question of whom would replace him last Summer. Obertan, Riviere, and Sammi Ameobi all made a play for fan fury- some for longer periods than others.
Clearly a fan does have a right to criticise regular under performers , you pays your money and all that! We’ve all done it but is it all fair criticism ? Just as players we personally rate can have poor games, so players we don’t rate can have good games. Or do we just prejudge every performance through our own inbuilt bias.
Taking that to it’s conclusion, booing a player such as Williamson does appear worse than merely shouting with frustration; because one is a premeditated personal attack and the other reacting to a particular incident occurring during the game.

  • 130 Average_Contents // Jul 28, 2015 at 7:23 PM

Pardew knew he would never be fully accepted by the vocal minority and went somewhere were he knew he would be given a welcome.

    Simple as that.

  • 132 overtheline // Jul 28, 2015 at 7:26 PM

  • 133 will die for the toon army // Jul 28, 2015 at 7:27 PM

Those saying Mitrovic and Austin are similar players are wrong.

Mitrovic is more like a stronger harder working version of Cisse. His strength is not as a back to goal or hold up player – it is making runs behind defenders.

Austin’s strength is exactly the opposite. His strength is back to goal and hold up play plus he puts in a shift closing down defenders.

But, both Austin and Mitrovic know where the goal is, are aggressive and very strong in the air. Together, they could make one hell of a pairing.

People pinning their hopes on an untested 20 yr old Marquee Signing.. ” Mr.Mit ” . They may look like stars in the leagues they come from but the Premier League is a total new ball game. We can NOT expect Mr.Mit to carry us through to the promised land all by himeslf. He may get a sack load of goals, and I hope to God he does. But not by playing him as a lone striker with a deep lying 10 behind him , he needs experience alongside him so I hope they stop messing about and get Charlie Boy on board ASAP . Or if not him someone else with Premier League experience to take the weight off him , help him and show him the ropes. Then he WILL flourish.. But please..NOT as a lone striker.

McLaren and his coaching staff, I’m sure are a breath of fresh air to every player at the club, every single one, bar none.

That in itself shows how awful the club has been coached as lets face it McLaren hasn’t pulled up any trees lately.

I believe we may finish around mid table but at least you will attend home games with the expectation of the team actually trying to play some decent football. Whether they succeed in doing that may depend on some top class opposition.

Good news is the Mackems look doomed to me. Think it is definitely possible to get top 8, but we would need some luck with injuries.

On Austin aka 3:16…its quite telling that no one really thinks he’s as good as this blog seems to make out. His strength isn’t with his back to goal as it’s often stated on here, if that was his strength then why did QPR persist with Zamora next to him? Austin is a decent striker for a lower league team. The fact the villa haven’t even made a move and they’ve got 32.5m in the kitty says it all!!

  • 161 Our Toon // Jul 28, 2015 at 8:21 PM

  • 162 firebug666 // Jul 28, 2015 at 8:25 PM

    Our Toon

I think it is more likely the price tag that is stopping clubs making a move for Austin. Why would they spend £15 million on Austin when there is no doubt better strikers for that price.

QPR have priced Austin out of the market, I think he will still be there until January when his price will have to come down, or they lose him for nowt next summer.

After Mbemba signs we won’t sign anyone until we have sold (and even then we are not guarenteed to buy another player).

I think McClaren wanted to evaluate the squad but knew we needed a CB, CF and decent CM.

After this I think we will now consider bids only if we can move on players.

Austin will only sign if we sell Cisse, Thauvin if Cabella or Sissoko goes, a CB if Colo leaves.

We are NUFC and whilst we have signed some good players, we never learn. We become too overjoyed and hopeful when we buy a player and get carried away and caught up in the transfer drama, clinging onto any ITK that happens to mention us in a tweet.

Look at the signs. McClaren talking about the next 3 windows, Moncur saying he ‘hopes’ we sign some more and the lack of real movement this close to the start of the season. If we had any intention of strengthening in the face of our poor squad we would have the players in with more than 1 friendly to go.

I’m sure we will try to move on some players but unless some clubs in the middle east or Turkey are interested in overpaying then I think we will be done with Mbemba and will look to letting contracts run out.

Just being realistic based on past form. The only thing we’ve done different this window is paid more for the players we usually buy.

We have replaced Cabaye, Ba and Sol Campbell so far.

  • 205 ToonFromLeeds // Jul 28, 2015 at 9:11 PM

BREAKING: Fabian Delph out for season after tearing cruciate ligaments on Man City debut. #MCFC

  • 208 firebug666 // Jul 28, 2015 at 9:19 PM

Adam Armstrong on his being sent to Coventry.

And Armstrong could make his Coventry City debut against Oxford United on Saturday.

The forward – who made his senior Newcastle United debut aged 16 – has made 19 first-team appearances for his hometown club.

Armstrong, however, now needs to be starting games week in, week out.

“I’m delighted to get it done as it is massive in my career,” he said. “It’s a big move, and I can’t wait to get started.

“I want to progress during my time here, and do really well for the club.

“I like to think I’m quick and have got a few skills about me.

“I’ve got an eye for goals, and I want to score a lot of goals for the club. I’ve got to claim my place in the side first, but that’s the aim.

“I’m really looking forward to the start of the season against Wigan Athletic and can’t wait to get started.”

Coventry manager Tony Mowbray says he is excited by the capture of the England Under-18 international, who is yet to score at senior level.

“Adam is a striker we’ve been tracking throughout the summer and a prospect we’re really excited by,” said Mowbray.

“He has a fantastic eye for goal, and his movement in the area makes life difficult for defenders.

“It is also an important stage of his development, and he needs first-team games to progress as a player, so this is a big chance for him in his career.

“We’ve been looking to add quality to our forward line throughout the summer.

“Despite his young age, I believe Adam will give us a fantastic option going into the 2015-16 season.”

Oh dear – people still moaning , must be a whole load of old buggers on here ( including me) , we’ve won jack since the 60s – had a couple of dream seasons under KK and Robson , other than that we’ve been pretty much awful – I remember Brighton on a Wednesday night in league 1 ( we were beaten) , they were bad times

Liking the new set of player photees training, the impression I get is the club has become professional all of a sudden.

No collo training mind, reckon he’s being shipped out for sure, think he’s got away with murder for quite sometime….

Need Dummitt back as Saylor will breakdown before season starts. Hope we aren’t plagued by injuries to key players or we are doomed.

I don’t think we should get rid of Vuckic just yet. We’ve waited a long time to see him produce something . I know that was a sh.t defence but he used his right foot and looked quicker than he’s ever shown before.

He was very highly rated as a youngster.

  • 233 Mister Tuff // Jul 28, 2015 at 10:14 PM

ian Toon – stop your trickery and deception. Most posters know your game now – a pseudo intellectual, trying to be superior to other posters.
Your message about football is outdated and most have left you behind. You have invented a legion of multiples in order to praise your posts. When this has failed you now praise certain individuals to gain their support – probably before you stab them in the back.
The new season is about to start – please no more tall stories about meeting West Ham and Soton fans in the pub who all thought King Percy was a top manager.
You are yesterdays man -and a spiteful F***er at that.
Writing letters to Percy after he left – what a tart.

Don’t sweat the small stuff lads; life really is too short. We are here because of common ground, no point zooming in on and picking at minor differences.

  • 236 mickalfas // Jul 28, 2015 at 10:16 PM

Let’s face it the only thing NUFC has going for it is the fans ffs
The owner is a parasite, with his minions around him, screwing every penny out of the club, free advertising for shite direct etc
To those who think differently ,wake up ffs!!
Mid table is the dream for them ,nothing more !!
Remember it’s not his his money ,its a business ffs
