Newcastle Trying To Close Deals For Four Players

Newcastle United are reported to be still interested in signing Florian Thauvin, even though a £12M bid by the Magpies was turned down by Marseilles,  who are said to value their winger at £15M.

That’s not a huge gap to close, so maybe a slightly higher bid by Newcastle could still clinch the deal, although Tottenham are now said to also be interested.

Florian Thauvin – Newcastle £3M short of Marseilles valuation

The Mirror are again saying Newcastle could use Remy Cabella as a makeweight in the deal for Thauvin – but we think that has no chance of happening at all.

Newcastle are also said to be trying to close the deal this week for Charlie Austin of QPR, who has said he wants to join Newcastle.

The only sticking point is (still)  the fee, with Newcastle willing to give Haris Vuckic in part exchange along with cool cash.

The three man FA committee will meet tomorrow to consider giving a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) for Chancel Mbemba, which is required in order for the Anderlecht center-back  to obtain his visa.

Everything else has been agreed, the fee and the compensation to the player –  and Mbemba had taken his medical – so we assume he has passed it, otherwise that would have made news.

The deal could be announced on Friday.

And finally,  Newcastle are also favorites to sign 19 year-old Northampton striker Ivan Toney, who we have been linked with for a number of weeks now.

Newcastle have opened negotiations for the young striker and the fee will probably be around £500K with add-ons, depending on how well Toney does at Newcastle.

If we do sign Toney it wouldn’t be too surprising if Newcastle loan him out for the season to get first team games and continue learning his trade.

Northampton boss Chris Wilder has said this about the potential deal:

“Every party has to sort their own part of the deal out.”

So there are four players Newcastle are in the process of trying to sign that we know of – and three of them are for the first team squad.

We assume we can get Mbemba through the door by the end of the week, but it would also be nice to get Charlie and Florian in before the season starts on August 9th.

It doesn’t seem Newcastle are too far off on the fee in both cases.

Comments welcome.

The whole concept of pre -season friendlies should be a progressive build up to your best team -getting match fit along the way -so there should be a reasonable understanding between all the players.
Unfortunately this hs not been the case – daft tour of the US – upon return -games too quick, players injured, players not signed up, deadwood still here, slow/tardy business in the transfer market.
So despite the best of intentions by Wally -he was on a hiding to nothing this close season. We’ll probably get another couple of players who will have to acclimatise.
Really the lack of strengthening the team over the last couple of years is the reason behind such a poor close season. I exclude the new players coming in obviously.

Sky sports has just reported that an African player who has played for Leeds for three seasons was due to join another championship side but has been refused a visa due to the new rules. Anyone else saw this story as I only got the back end of the story. Should we be worried re Bmamba

I see we lost to York but how did we play? Sounds like Mit missed a couple of decent chances as did others. Time to get serious in the final game against MGB. Still a very weak squad a few injuries away from disaster sad to say.

Ashley apparently has learned nothing. Three incoming at this point with no Prem experience between them is laughable. West Ham have brought in 10 players and Bilic. How many decent players have Liverpool signed? What on earth are you dong Lee?

G2 – Ashley learnt that by hiring a spin doctor and going on TV to say next to nothing…….he has got most NUFC fans onside with purchases they were always going to make……its the signings after these three that will show any intent as we might need investment other than previous player sales

Thauvin is a luxury we don’t need. Two new CB’s are not luxuries, they’re vital. Even with Mbemba we need huge improvement of the back four. Why can’t the club seem to prioritize correctly?

No a back up RB is obviously more needed then a LB, what happens when Janmaat is injured? Bigi? Haha. I think we all know how bad that would be. LB before RB is just stupid!

Yes, Saylor can lead the singing in the injury room Jamsha mate. I think someone said he has averaged 14 games a season over the last 6 seasons. Or was it 18? Pathetic really. His last injury he jumped up about 6 inches and did his Achilles. Absolutely hopeless.

Why does it seem so hard to buy a player man?

    Watford have signed 9,
    Stoke 8,
    Aston villa 7,
    Bournemouth 7,
    Liverpool 7,
    Southampton 6,
    Man Utd 5,
    Swansea 5.

Our owner actually promised us a big summer of horse races and whips and all kind of shit, and we have 2 confirmed signings. Despite seeming like half decent signings, neither of them have came in to shape up the worst defence in the league.

I reckon 95% of the blog would have signed two centre halfs first if they where in Lee Charnleys position.

He should have been out the door with Carver truth be told.

Yes we’ve signed two good players, but sorting out the terrible defence was the first port of call for anybody with an ounce of common sense.
