There’s a good reason why Newcastle fans are some of the best in the world, and half the gate of over 5,000 last night at Bootham Crescent in York were Newcastle fans who had traveled the 90 miles to watch a Newcastle second team play.
It wasn’t until an hour before the kick-off that they knew for sure that Aleksandar Mitrovic, our new signing from Anderlecht, would be playing – but it would have been a good guess.
Aleksandar Mitrovic – looks great in black and white stripes
It was the first time Aleksandar got to play in front of Newcastle fans – even though it was a game away from home.
This is what Aleksandar Mitrovic said on the Newcastle web-site immediately after the game last night
“It was an amazing feeling to play in the Newcastle shirt for the first time, in front of so many Newcastle fans.” “They were behind us the whole game, pushing us the whole way and if it felt that good in front of 2,000 then I can’t wait for 52,000.”
“I am really looking forward to my first game at St. James’ Park.” “I have only had one training session and now one game so far.” “I am going to need one or two games more to learn all about the team and how they play.”
“But we have a really good coach and I have already seen how good the players are here, so I am looking forward to playing for the team.” “Against York we were playing well, we kept the ball well and had everything in our hands but we conceded two lucky goals and lost the game.”
“I wanted to score and was doing everything to score but I was a little unlucky. Maybe it will happen on Saturday, or if not then against Southampton – that is the most important game and I am sure I will score in that one.”
“For me, it is important that I started to play games. This was my first game of pre-season and I felt really good on the pitch. I hope Saturday’s match against Borussia Monchengladbach will be better.”
Aleksandar is still very young at just 20, and he seems just absolutely delighted to play for a club as big and famous as Newcastle United is.
He will find out very soon how much the Newcastle fans are behind him and want him to do well on Tyneside.
We’ll have to wait until he scores his first goal for Newcastle – but the roof will come off at St. James’ Park when that happens, that’s for sure.
Maybe on Saturday against Borussia Monchengladbach.
But it’s simply great to have one so young, who looks so good – we could have a future top Premier League striker on our hands.
Sounds good to us.

From that list of 30 we need to lose at least three if we are to bring more players. My betting is on the following departing:
Abeid: Saleable having proved himself elsewhere on loan.
Vuckic: Saleable having proved himself at Rangers.
Williamson: Known clubs are after him (strangely !)
Marveaux: Back to France for little or nothing.
Ferguson: No position for him. Giveaway for little or nothing.
Obertan or/& Gouffran: Not first choice in first team.
Cisse: Only if Austin arrives if not will be second choice forward.
Notice you don’t include Cabella. He could make way for Thauvin perhaps.

We are pretty comfortable on the home grown at the minute based on the squad Pawl posted.

To be fickle you once had to hold the opposite view to the one you’re now taking. Pardew wasn’t welcome and never was regarded good by many. at any stage of his tenure.

Comment #48jayphoto .. not sure on that one, Pardew sets up the team to be defensive first, attack second. Still like Cabaye and Bolasie though.

Comment #49Not sure why Shane Ferguson has come back to the Newcastle squad. Never rated the guy.
I always sold him first on football manager. Amazingly, Stoke paid 1.8mil for him.

Oh ok, we’ll I meant as in it was very hard to please us. I bet it got to the point with Pardew where he knew winning wasn’t enough. Poor fellow, and now look at him, making the Geordie nation look stupid because of his achievement, I get really embarrassed when I have to confront other fans on thinking we are ungrateful. It’s hard to win when they say look what he’s done at palace.

i agree.. we should get rid off XX players and replace them with X better ones..
as far as im concern colo, wili, tiote, rivi, goufrann, marveaux, obertan, elliot, ferguson, cisse, taylor, good can all leave.. those 12 are replacable with 5 quality players..
they are either injured all the time, poor or past it..and too old to be back-ups..

Comment #53Jack .. look what he’s done at palace .. yep he kept them up last season, he should be England manager now 🙂
Its not just Newcastle he’s failed, West ham etc etc.
Boring football with results is bad enough, boring football and bad results .. that’s the last 2 years with Pardew for us.

I think Chelsea will still top the league. They look really solid and have some exceptional players.
Not sure about Man Utd or Man City but have no doubt they will be up there. I have a feeling that Arsenal will do well. My hope is that the players at Liverpool don’t gel.
Think that West Brom, Villa and Sunderland will be in the relegation struggle together with two of the promoted clubs.
The dark horses are Everton who surely cannot be as bad as they have been. Stoke is very solid and boring but can grind out the results.
Think we will end up between 8th and 10th.
