York 2 Newcastle 1 – Photos From The Game

Here are a collection of photos from last night’s game at York City when Newcastle were surprisingly beaten 2-1 by the League Two side, and it was the first chance of fans to take a look at our new signing Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Business as usual in the good ship NUFC with Charmless at the helm.

Ashley is losing sleep at night having already spent more than he’s ever spent in a single window and all we’re gonna get now is excuses about how we tried to get 4 more players over the line but couldn’t quite make it…and then in the last week of the window we’ll get some offers Ashley couldn’t quite refuse and we’ll lose three of our old purples without time to replace them.

Unfortunately all a bit too predictable

You’ve just been intercepted by the New Era Optimist police, you’re not allowed to say that.

We bought nine players last summer but let more go, on top of the fact we hadn’t made a signing in a year and a half. Who were the nine anyway ?

Mitrovic does look a bit chubby, by professional football standards anyway. Not worried he didn’t get a goal. Pleased to see he is great in the air, something which is essential when you play one up front and two wingers. Hopefully he can bag a few from set pieces and corners whilst defending a few at the other end.

Bigi looked like the real deal when he first came in. Get that lad out on loan and see if we can revitalise him.

Vuckic has done some decent things recently, nothing special, lets keep him and loan him to Championships in his last chance saloon, similar to Ameobi.

Just get rid of Fergie. I’ve not seen enough of Satka. Woodman is so young in Goalkeeping terms that it is maybe better to keep him at the club this season. I would just get rid of Elliott, can see by how overweight he is that the drive and commitment is not there.

Fantastic to see Armstrong loaned out, hope he can score loads. If he does well try and get him out to a Championship club for the 2nd half of the season, unless everyone is injured…

I think we have made 2 great signings, the 3rd is on the way. Very pleased with the quality of those 3. Hope they settle in well. Can still go wrong for foreign players, even with the class of those 3.

We desperately need 1 top quality CB, get rid of Taylor, at least Willo will stay fit when on the bench. Collo might do OK with a decent partner. Haven’t seen enough of Lascelles. Get a youngster in who can cover RB, preferably someone who has been playing 1st team in a Championship side. English would be nice.

Would then love a new RW, not sure Thauvin is the man. A new LB would go down a treat, but we would have to spend big to get someone a lot better than Haidara. I think he can turn out great with the right coaching, but again, needs to stay fit.

When Ash and his board have run the club on a shoe string for many years your left with NUFC it will take years to recover from, at least half of the players need replacing.

Jaanmatt, Cabella, SDJ, Colback, Perez, Riverie, Darlow and Lascaselles, oh and Ferraya. All of those and the squad was still severely lacking due to previous and on going mismanagement.

Mit is just a kid, yes great to have him but we need experience. The board still have resale in mind when they purchase players.

Fully agree on Bigi but for the life of can not understand why a player like Ferguson who clearly has no future at the club is being given important game time.

we’ll get a proper humped by Southampton at this rate…our defence is dreadful but we need to move on from Colo.

May as well put Dummett in with Mbemba for the first game…at least Dummett’s not got that 3 or 4 massive mistakes a game in him like Saylor and Colo have and IMO he’s a much better CB than full back anyway.

I would start against Southampton with

    Jamaat mbemba Dummett Hiadara

    Winjy, Anita, Colback Aarons

Aaron’s switching wings, Anita and Colback sitting, Winjy making the runs from Midfield and using SDJ as the link we’ve been missing since Cabaye left

That team in its self doesn’t look bad, but as soon as injury and suspension which is as likely as a plane crash ? kick in it doesn’t look good at all.

I wouldnt even count Darlow and lascelles, since they played at forrest last season. So we really only had 7 incomers. On less that Jespers stated average….. then we could probably discount ferreyra since he was completely invisible for the first team, and never kicked a ball for us in anger!

Jail…Maclaren I’m sure has already realised that even though he has a squad the size of anyone elses, he doesn’t really have any options because there is no real depth or quality to the squad..so you’re right mate…the team pretty much picks itself but if we have injuries or bad form there’s no one pressing from the bench and the quality just isn;t there

It’s got to be the purse strings holding us back from a number of the signings we are interested in. Few of our PL rivals take as long as we do to conclude their transfers. My heart says be hopeful for the season ahead, but my head keeps repeating that things about leopards and spots.
SM has enough experience in football to know where we need to bring in players. Without a stronger defence we’re going to struggle and IMO that’ll be 100% down to old moneybags.

    The nine were:

    De Jong

    The loanee was Ferreyra.

The issue that Jasper presented yesterday was comparing the completed transfer window last summer with the ongoing incomplete transfer window this summer.

Statistics can be a very hit and miss way of assessing things.

From the 9 players, 2 stayed with their clubs, 1 never played at all, 1 was injured all season, 2 (Cabella and Rivière) were in and out of the team and only 2 (Colback & Janmaat) destined for the first played regularly, and 1 (Perez) who was not destined for the first team played regularly.

What this tells us I have no idea !!

There are two timelines running concurrently here.
The transfer window and the first 8 games of the season up to the October international break.
Both are relentless and need to be focussed on completely.
If we had the old system of a “Manager” preparing for the new season PLUS being concerned with all that that transfers involves it would be too much.
It is just as well we have the Head Coach system.
With the fixtures we have up to 2nd October
    Soton home
    Swansea away
    Man u away
    Cap One Cup tba
    Arsenal home
    Window closes
    West Ham away
    Watford home
    Chelsea home
    Man City away
It is as hard an early season as you could wish for
The only one I feel totally confident about is Watford at home.

It’s some job Macca has in the next 2 months I hope everyone realises this and gets behind him, and stops with the negative hand wringing and moaning.
