Borussia Monchengladbach Winning Goal – Video

5:11 pm, Saturday, August 1st, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 80 Comments

Here’s the poor goal we conceded this afternoon to lose this game 1-0 but Newcastle hardly deserved to be on the losing side with a good performance.

Only thing I am thankful for is that there is still time to bring in some more defenders before Southampton although I don’t see it unfortunately .

Haidara still has potential but I would still like to see a new LB and another CB IS A MUST . We should go for Jetro Willems and Abdennour :

    —————-Gini———————De Jong————–

Can’t believe we are going into the 15/16 season with the same CB’s we had in 2009 FFS .

  • 2 ROSHAN MAGPIE // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:13 PM

Wtf is this some say it was a good display by us some say it was nothing special we play the same Bullshit type like we used to play under pardew and carver

  • 3 lukes26 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:15 PM

I think there are three main questions going into the game at Southampton:

    1. Do we start Mbemba, or are we forced into taylor/wilo pairing?
    2. Cisse or Mitro?
3 Where does Sissoko play..or does he start on the bench?

i feel mbemba will likely be on the bench along with Mitro and Sissoko will be a some sort of hybrid winger

  • 4 WheresSholaNow // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:15 PM

Janmaat Mbemba Taylor and Haidara needs to be the starting back four, then another CB needs to come in to replace Taylor pronto

  • 5 Jamseyd24 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:15 PM

I myself didnt see the whole game as my internet connection out here is pish!

That being siad from what I did see we seemed to play pretty decent stuff, I thought Ginger was a bit of the pace at time, Gabby looked reasonable, but I do echo what most are saying. We defo need a quality CB and we need better delivery into the box.

Now if all us half wits can see that, surely to god SM and co can see that?????

  • 6 expatmag // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:16 PM

Austin will probably be in the starting line up next week.

Reports we are in advanced talks with QPR

  • 7 JackButler // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:17 PM

We kept the ball better and pressed more than we used to under Pardew, but other than that it was an average performance with little being created and nothing to write home about but we have the same worries coming from the centre halfs as we’ve always had

  • 8 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:17 PM

So how was the game? Can anyone give me a objective analysis on the game, formation, subs and what we need to bring in?

I am still a bit worried about this ongoing 4-2-3-1!

  • 9 Terry // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:17 PM

Big Pappa cisse. They’ve only had six years to sort it.Give them time, they think there’s potential there somewhere

  • 10 Jamseyd24 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:18 PM

Its time they pulled this signing out of the bag thats going to excite the fans, were ever the fek that rumor came from. If it is true it has to be a top class CB

  • 11 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:18 PM

For Me we have much better ball players like De Jong and Wijnaldum who should be in the middle of the park so Sissoko should be played on the right wing IMO .

He can still drift inside and his pace and power will upset most full backs in the PL . Him and Janmaat could form a great partnership and I’m pretty sure he was one of the top PL chance creators when played there for us a while ago .

  • 12 Terry // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:19 PM

    Austin cb,SORTED

  • 13 Menelauos // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:20 PM

I think everyone needs to relax, we were unlucky and out played a team that came 3rd last season in the bundesliga, we should have won. And for people saying we play the same football are idiots, it’s completely different. Just some players will take time to accustom to the new ethos. Could take time, won’t happen over night. Plus Willo is a moron. And look uncomfortable with the ball at all times.

  • 14 OneAlanShearer // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:22 PM

    Expat…what reports.

  • 15 JackButler // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:22 PM

Are we even looking to bring another CH???

I’d be very worried if we are not

  • 16 lukes26 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:23 PM

    Menelauos speaks truths

  • 17 JackButler // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:23 PM

Gotta laugh that Willo is still being blasted when it was Saylor who looked the more uncomfortable of the two, but I guess that was only because he was playing alongside a donkey huh!!!!!!

  • 18 colwell // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:24 PM

Austin would be a waste of money, we already have strikers and only seem to play 1 at a time any way. Whats the point of bringing in a striker that is of similar mold to our 2 main strikers?

Fcuk me spend the money on a player that can get the ball to the striker or failing that bring in a forward who can actually run with the ball create his own chances Austin isn’t worth it.

  • 19 Tsunki // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:24 PM

£15 saved for La Tasca tonight. 🙂

This is no time to PANIC though. That’s what the Xmas schedule is for.

  • 20 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:24 PM

JB…I love how old school you are!

    …a Center Half 😀

  • 21 JackButler // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:25 PM

    Just old mate 🙁

  • 22 Tsunki // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:25 PM

Saylor been out months though JB. Hardly fair.

  • 23 ROSHAN MAGPIE // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:25 PM

jack i didn’t saw the game so wanted to know how was the match bt ED review and others review were totally different

  • 24 ilovetoon8788 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:25 PM

We are seriously going to be in for a hiding at Southampton..

    Piss poor pre season.

  • 25 Jack // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:25 PM

See, fans expecting the team to play fluid amazing football already, it takes a long time for a manager to get his philosophy across to all players and for them to be comfortable with it. It’s not going to happen in pre-season, they need time. Give them a break, the performance wasnt even that bad.

  • 26 welshgeordie9 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:25 PM

I think some people need to take a chill pill, the only thing we have got to do is sort our defence out, happy with midfield and up front, today is the only day we didn’t score, we created chances against a very good side, i be more worried if we didn’t create any chances today or in the other matches, the fact that we have i feel optimistic this season, it’s going to take time anyway, mcclaren hasn’t been here long or his staff or the new players, more positives than negatives.

  • 27 Shadow_Shearer // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:26 PM

Does any anybody else feel we are seriously lacking goals aswel. The only games we won in preseason was due to a penalty & an own goal

  • 28 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:26 PM

    @ Menelauos

I agree and the differences are clear from the Pardew Era . Don’t think I saw Krul kick it long once .

My problem is bringing in all these talented players like Wijnaldum and Mitrovic is in vain if our defence let in goals for fun .

That is my main worry and it could easily be fixed with a signing or two . Only problem is it is very late in the window and any targets won’t have played with our squad and won’t be match fit for a few weeks at the least .

  • 29 JackButler // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:27 PM

But fair to blast Willo who did nothing wrong today???

We need a striker in the mold of Loic Remy.

  • 32 Jib // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:29 PM

Not a lot of people who post on here know too much about footy to be fair.
Ed’s summary of the game was just about spot on.
We looked for the most part better than a very average typical workmanlike Bundesliga side and that from a team that had a completely new coaching staff in that just started working with the team 5 weeks ago interspersed with an exhausting trip to the States.
Some goon said we still have defenders from 2009 — Terry – Skrtel – Kompany – Baines – Zabaleta – HELLO
Steven Taylor is coming back from a double hamstring snap and all they can do is call him “sick note ” !!!!!
We are defo behind with our preparation cos of that daft tour but not as far off as I feared.
Anyone who can get Obertan looking half decent needs honouring – step forward Sir Steven McClaren
Rolando Aarons is going to win us cups and then be sold to Real Madrid for megabucks.
    Thats all

  • 33 JackButler // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:30 PM

Personally think we need another CH, a striker, winger and more than anything, time for all the changes to settle in and take effect

  • 34 Terry // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:32 PM

After all the penny pinching we’ve had to put up with a can’t believe people would discard a player on the grounds he’s too expensive.

  • 35 Jamseyd24 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:32 PM

Very good assessment of things mate!!

  • 36 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:32 PM

    @ JB

Williamson could have played like Nesta today, but it doesn’t change the fact that he is a horrible footballer by Premier League standards .

At one point today a player knocked the ball round him and I have never seen a professional athlete 1) turn so slow and 2) run so slow .

    Its embarrassing .

  • 37 OneAlanShearer // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:33 PM

Expat those reports are just based on the Ronnie saying we are geared up to discuss it…I will believe it when I see it.

  • 38 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:34 PM

One week to go and it’s Taylor and Willo. You couldn’t make it up.

  • 39 toon kk // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:35 PM

I never saw the game, how did we actually play? Alot of mixed reports on the blog.
I can’t really comment on this match but the majority who played almost got us relegated so I can’t expect any miracles. If a player isn’t good enough he’s not good enough, simple!

  • 40 bettyswallocks // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:35 PM

We still lack any real creativity, hopefully there’s a fair bit more wheeling and dealing before the window shuts.

    I’ll reserve judgement till then.

  • 41 magpiesi // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:35 PM

    I would love this

    Janmaat——Mbemba——Colo—–Van Dijk——–Haidara

I suspect this 4 at the back with Midfield and forward option using the players we have until new ones hopefully com in.
    ——————-De Jong———Wijnaldum———————–

  • 42 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:35 PM

    @ Jib

“Some goon said we still have defenders from 2009 — Terry – Skrtel – Kompany – Baines – Zabaleta – HELLO ”

You seriously comparing Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor to those guys ? .

Tell me, who is the Goon again ? .

  • 43 welshgeordie9 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:35 PM

    Well said jib

  • 44 JackButler // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:35 PM

    Big papa

Not arguing that mate, he’s being slaughtered when he’s only as poor as the others we have.

Saylor is below average and will spend more time on the treatment table than the pitch and our captain fantastic wants out asap but it’s Willo who cops it all the time. All three of them need shipping out imo

  • 45 Terry // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:37 PM

Any player will have the odd good game no matter how bad they are(even Williamson)but he cannot sustain it

  • 46 JackButler // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:38 PM

We have the same central defenders that we had in the championship mate and Saylor is always injured, not just the double hamstring injury, he been on the treatment table for years

  • 47 geordie157 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:38 PM

get the feeling we’ll be bringing Van Dijk in, him and Mbemba could form a good partnership.

A decent winger that can cross would be nice too!

  • 48 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:38 PM

    @ JB

I agree m8, they are both as bad as each other, but at least Williamson isn’t made of glass .

  • 49 JackButler // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:40 PM

    Big papa

We are trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear with our central defenders. Until they are replaced nothing much will change imo

  • 50 Terry // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:45 PM

Jib,comparing them defenders with ours ,well I’m a goon then.Cant believe I’m replying to that.

  • 51 jimnufc // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:47 PM

    same old same old

  • 52 toon kk // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:51 PM

    Jack b
very true, many expect to much from our players, until there’s a big revamp we’ll be watching players out of their depth.

  • 53 The Newcastle Armchair // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:53 PM

I think NUFC are forever cursed in terms of defending.

Look at the shower of shyte that we’ve had over the times:

    Sol Campbell

Bearing in mind these defenders were once considered the best centre backs in Newcastle.

All we need now is Mbemba’s reputation as a future star to be tarnished and he’ll be off like Mbiwa.

  • 54 ilovetoon8788 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:55 PM

To the fools who thinks everything is going to be rosy. Let’s see the final score when saylor and Williamson partner each other against Southampton..

  • 55 Belfast // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:56 PM

We do lack goals. I still think we should sign Austin myself. We aren’t always going to play with just one striker.

We badly need a centre half like, and I’m not convinced about the left back.

  • 56 lukes26 // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:58 PM

I don’t know why no one proposes this, but I would play Janmaat as a RM & have Mbemba play RB until he’s ready to play CB

Janmaat seems like a natural RM & Mbemba has the athleticism that we often lack defensively

I think its pretty clear Steve wont be starting Mbemba as a CB at Southampton

  • 57 Palmer // Aug 1, 2015 at 5:59 PM

Same old same old, unless another defender comes in soon i fear another struggle this season as you cannot rely on an unproven young striker to score hat-tricks every game

  • 58 The Newcastle Armchair // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:00 PM

Oh dear – already mentioning playing Mbemba at RB.

Sounds like we defo have another Mbiwa

  • 59 Menelauos // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:00 PM

I agree with you our defense is appalling, I think the fact that it’s the same defense we had in the championship speaks a lot. We need a big guy to plug the hole. I don’t want Van Djik, I wanted Vlaar, but he’s injured, we need someone like Ginter, Matip, Rudiger etc. Abdennour would have been ideal but let’s be realistic.

  • 60 Jib // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:01 PM

Are you being deliberately crass – I am no way comparing “them” (sic) defenders to ours .
I’m saying them being at the club since 2009 is not a valid reason to slag them off , there are many things you can slag a defender off for , but being at a club for a lot of years is not one – au contraire , they should be commended for their loyalty.
Folk just go well over the top with their criticism is probably my point.

  • 61 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:01 PM

La Tasca sounds good. I’m out on the piss tonight. We need to snap up Terence Kongolo, Van Dijk, Thauvin/Townsend and a fast striker.

  • 62 VanToonMan // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:01 PM

In all honesty – we should have faith in Mitro Cisse Perez and De jong and forget about Austin. Spend £15-20mill on Shawcross or Rudiger or Howedes.

I put shawcross in there because whatever said and done he has bags of Prem experience and is a big solid no nonsense defender who would pair well with Mbemba

  • 63 Menelauos // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:02 PM

Plus everyone saying we don’t have much time. Building a team takes time. Players need to settle. We still have 31 days left this window. We’re halfway..

  • 64 The Newcastle Armchair // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:02 PM

NUFC should hire you as chief of transfers.

  • 65 leonado_keng // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:04 PM

Tiote should be sent to DMC rather than Anita/Colback, and buy two more players for left back, center back

  • 66 Ian Toon // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:05 PM

Belfast- The word in the London press is that we’re going to sell Collo to Palace and sign Austin for around £13.5 million. I didn’t see any of today’s game but my brother tells me that we performed more in line with Ed’s assessment than the “usual suspects” would have you believe.
What was your verdict- when you have the time0 will do.

  • 67 Palmer // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:05 PM

We need to hit the grond running, look at our first 6 fixtures? If we lose 4 of those we will struggle

  • 68 Jamseyd24 // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:06 PM

What gives you a feeling we will get Van Dijk or is that just you guessing??

  • 69 will die for the toon army // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:06 PM

Cisse and Sissoko has been disappointing so far. De Jong and Aarons are off pace but I believe they shld b in the first team. Cisse chances are being created he has no complaints. Mitrovic comes on and u see he is trying But am not contented that Aarons and Perez are better than sissoko so I think they willhave to share the other part of winger.

Mcclaren shld jst find a way to play Wijnaldum and De Jong together coz they looked very good

  • 70 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:06 PM

It’s obvious that we need a left back, centre back (2 if Coloccini goes), a winger and a striker.

  • 71 Zangwill_Ho // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:08 PM

    Buy two more defenders

  • 72 will die for the toon army // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:08 PM

  • 73 Terry // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:09 PM

Jib,this is not personal towards these players so take a chill pill.My point being if I have to explain is these players haven’t been good enough for the premiere league for a long time why do managers persist with them.Any fool can see that’s where our problems are

  • 74 Jib // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:14 PM

  • 75 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:15 PM

Just got back in from game
Sad to say same old same old –
New lads look a cut above what we have and once they gell looking forward to seeing them play together
They looked much more comfortable on the ball and off the ball – their movement caused us problems all afternoon
Their no 8 Mahmound Dahoud and 34 Granit Xhaka ran tyhe show

McLaren going to have a problem on his attacking midfield combinations who to pick

AND a much bigger problem with defence – looked ok when had time but soon as opposition ran at them Taylor and Wilko hadn’t a clue what to do.
Taylor ‘the octopus’ would of been off in a premiership match for pulling back the goalscorer.

A lot to sort out before next Sunday.

My MOM – Anita – controlled the game at the back – kept it simple
Perez showed his class when he came on lovely dinked ball to DiJong who fed Mitrovic who should of scored.

Worst TOON players – Colback looked lost -went around fouling all afternoon and Cisse still looks out of sorts

  • 76 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 1, 2015 at 6:16 PM

I would put a bid in for Xhaka tonight – oozed class

Michael Dawson could walk into that bk 4 and looked like his been there for ever a top top cb under rated to say the least. For me he he is very John Terry like and God knows we could do with that hull would sell for 3to6 million a bargain in my book pl proven a leader an organiser a no brainer for me if Austin is anon runner then matty Phillips of qpr would be another for me best crosser of the ball last seassea mitro would love him. Would 10 million get the 2? And mo’ve on Colo?
