Newcastle In Lead To Sign Exciting Lyon Forward For £10.5M

2:00 pm, Sunday, August 2nd, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 25 Comments

L’Equipe are reporting today that Newcastle United are interested in Lyon striker/forward Clinton N’Jie and have made a £10.5M bid for the 21 year-old Cameroon International.

N’Jie has been at Lyon since 2010 and came through their Youth Academy and he is reckoned to be one of the brightest prospect in France at the moment.

Clinton N'Jie

Clinton N’Jie – Newcastle have bid £10.5M

He has already played 11 times for Cameroon after making his debut last September, playing in Lumumbashi against the Democratic Republic of Congo, when he scored his first International goal, and he has six at the moment.

Tottenham have been interested in the player for a while, and are said to have bid earlier this summer for the Lyon forward.

Maybe this lad is one of the players who are currently under the radar screen, that head coach Steve McClaren has talked about.

Arsenal have already shown significant interest in the player, but Newcastle are said to be in the lead to sign the youngster – according to L’Equipe

The bid is lower than Lyon’s valuation of the player but not by much, so if this news is correct Newcastle could be seeing a new forward joining the ranks and it’s another player who will cost more than £10M for the Tyneside club.

N’Jie has great speed and he can play either as an out-and-out striker or out on the wing – so he would fit in well at Newcastle, and would offer both goal scoring prowess and creativity to the Newcastle team.

Clinton has played 43 times for Lyon scoring 8 goals with 9 assists, so he can both score goals and make them – and he’s the right age to join Newcastle, where he will only improve by playing in the Premier League.

L’Equipe is reporting the Newcastle bid is not too short of Lyon’s valuation, and that negotiations are continuing and that a deal is possible.

As far as know, this is the first time Newcastle have been linked with the player, and there’s nothing in our archives ever linking Newcastle with N’Jie.

This lad could be a decent signing for Newcastle, always assuming the L’Equipe report is true.

Here’s some video of the youngster of his goals of last season.

What do you think?

Great. Another ecxellent young prospect and he’s the type we need to complement our attack. Really fast and can play on the wing as well.

Unless the mag didn’t do a very good job of looking there is supposedly no mention of this in L’equipe. Seems like somebody has made up a bullsh*t story and it’s been picked up by everybody else. What’s more interesting is our link with Jean-Paul Boetius, a German publication is reporting that he is in talks with an unknown foreign club and was left out of a game yesterday. He’s young and more importantly for the club cheap given that he is in the last year of his contract.

We need defenders, we don’t need any more forwards or midfielders.

couldn’t resist did he even make the squad to the states

@welshgeordie9. Of course we need a CB but do also desperately need options on the wing to provide the ammunition for Mitrovic.

The saints bidding for the celtic lad hasn’t come from sky sports per say, it’s from the paper talk section that they have on their transfer centre. So no, not from sky sports. Just rumours from papers lads. Either way I’ve never seen him play so not really arsed tbh.

All I know and I’m sure that many agree, we need a commanding centre back to replace he who doesn’t want to be here and one to replace he who is shite with the turning circle of the QE2.

    That is all.

With every young striker we are reported to be after, my hopes diminish more and more of our ambition to acquire the CB we are desperately in need of 😐

Maybe you wouldn’t find it that funny if it was your old dear

  • 24 Looney_toon_89 // Aug 2, 2015 at 8:34 PM

This would be a great signing. I am very worried that we are getting few links for defenders & no bids. CB is vital. Colo & Willo must be pushed onto the bench at a minimum.
