Newcastle In Lead To Sign Exciting Lyon Forward For £10.5M

L’Equipe are reporting today that Newcastle United are interested in Lyon striker/forward Clinton N’Jie and have made a £10.5M bid for the 21 year-old Cameroon International.

N’Jie has been at Lyon since 2010 and came through their Youth Academy and he is reckoned to be one of the brightest prospect in France at the moment.

Clinton N’Jie – Newcastle have bid £10.5M

He has already played 11 times for Cameroon after making his debut last September, playing in Lumumbashi against the Democratic Republic of Congo, when he scored his first International goal, and he has six at the moment.

Tottenham have been interested in the player for a while, and are said to have bid earlier this summer for the Lyon forward.

Maybe this lad is one of the players who are currently under the radar screen, that head coach Steve McClaren has talked about.

Arsenal have already shown significant interest in the player, but Newcastle are said to be in the lead to sign the youngster – according to L’Equipe

The bid is lower than Lyon’s valuation of the player but not by much, so if this news is correct Newcastle could be seeing a new forward joining the ranks and it’s another player who will cost more than £10M for the Tyneside club.

N’Jie has great speed and he can play either as an out-and-out striker or out on the wing – so he would fit in well at Newcastle, and would offer both goal scoring prowess and creativity to the Newcastle team.

Clinton has played 43 times for Lyon scoring 8 goals with 9 assists, so he can both score goals and make them – and he’s the right age to join Newcastle, where he will only improve by playing in the Premier League.

L’Equipe is reporting the Newcastle bid is not too short of Lyon’s valuation, and that negotiations are continuing and that a deal is possible.

As far as know, this is the first time Newcastle have been linked with the player, and there’s nothing in our archives ever linking Newcastle with N’Jie.

This lad could be a decent signing for Newcastle, always assuming the L’Equipe report is true.

Here’s some video of the youngster of his goals of last season.
