Newcastle head coach Steve McClaren spent an hour on BBS Radio Newcastle taking call form fans – a thing that were popular when Sir Bobby Robson managed the club, and one of the things that came out of that was that he has told Lee Charnley that Newcastle must keep Moussa Sissoko.
It also seems that Moussa is more than happy these days although we keep seeing ridiculous reports from the north-west about whether Liverpool or Manchester City will be the ones who sign Sissoko this month.
Moussa Sissoko consoling Cisse on Saturday
But hopefully Newcastle have found out that even getting foo money for your best players does nothing for the team on the pitch and we need to keep our best players and it will help that Mike Ashley has said Newcastle want to win something now.
This is some of Steve has said in the wide-ranging topics that came up:
“We can’t lose Moussa, I know there’s a lot of interest but he’s under contract,” “On my first day he walked into my office, what a specimen of a man.”
“An absolute presence and a great manner. Very professional and low maintenance. I’ve said to Lee Charnley, ‘wow, we’ve got to keep this guy’. I want to build a team around him.”
We’ve got to admit that Moussa is kind of well built – like a tank in fact – and when he’s running with the ball straight at you on the pitch – it must be quite terrifying.
We hope it’s quite terrifying.
🙂
Moussa would do well to stay at Newcastle and with the coach obviously a huge admirer of the midfielder, Moussa is one player who should do well for us next season.
He was always a starter under Alan Pardew, and it looks like nothing will change under Steve McClaren.
What do you think?

Comment #45Rose for LB all day.
He is worth 7.5 max and will wipe the floor with Haidara. Don’t think he has England caps either for senior squad but could be wrong? I know he has under 21 caps.

Comment #53I don’t like Sissoko being played wide. I think we haven’t seen the best from him when he has been played in that position.
Sissoko is an energetic athletic box to box midfielder. I see him in the middle of the park with a holding midfielder like Colback/Anita/Tiote and a technical/creative midfielder like Wijnaldum/De Jong.
I would prefer to see Wijnaldum wide right if necessary as his touch and technical abilities make him a better fit there. I prefer both in the middle ideally with a dedicated right winger terrorizing fullbacks.
I like to see players squad numbers represent their positions where possible and think Anita #5, Sissoko #8 and Wijnaldum #7 is a better fit.

You had better stick to womens football.
Let Sissoko go?…..some people just do not recognise a class footballer when they see one.
But you are not alone. Ed Harrison and Lee Ryder are members of your club
It is called the “Clueless Club”

Comment #55I’m not surprised McClaren would want to build around Sissoko. He’s can be our midfield engine. The level of pace and power he possesses is somewhat rare.
I’m a bit disappointed that his technical game hasn’t improved much in his 2 and a half seasons at Newcastle. He is almost 26. Not such a young talent anymore. He should have cemented his place as our midfield general already. Perhaps this coming season.
