World-Class Winger Would Be Fantastic Acquisition For Newcastle

There is news today that Inter-Milan winger Xherdan Shaqiri is still available, after German club Schalke have surprisingly passed up an option to sign him.

Newcastle have been linked with the player this summer, after he was deemed excess to requirements by Inter manager Roberto Mancini, even though he was just bought from Bayern Munich in January on a four and a half year contract.

Xherdan Shaqiri – still available

Schalke were in the lead to sign the 23 year-old Swiss International, but it looks like they have lost interest in the player.

Schalke coach Andre Breitenreiter has told German publication Sport Bild this today:

“Shaqiri is not of interest to us at the moment,” “We don’t even have meetings with him on our schedule.”

Stoke were interested in acquiring the player earlier in the summer, but after terms were agreed with Inter it seems the player did not want to move to Stoke.

Stave McClaren said last night on Total Sports on BBC Radio Newcastle that the club were still looking for players they could sign this summer, so here’s an excellent player who would only make the team better.

The player has already been capped 46 times capped by Switzerland (17 goals), but with him being such a good player, it’s not too surprising there have  been a number of clubs linked with the 23 year-old, who was born in Gjilan, Yugoslavia.

He emigrated to Switzerland when he was just one year old, and now has dual nationality – Swiss and Albanian – and he elected to play for Switzerland.

Xherdan has played for FC Basel and Bayern Munich before he moved to Italy in January,  and he is a skilled winger who can score goals – and we need a winger (plus a defender and another striker).

Newcastle have already surprised us this season by signing three top players – Gini Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba for around £35M – and this lad they call the Alpine Messi would be a fantastic acquisition for Newcastle.

In his career at FC Basel, Bayern Munich and Inter – he’s played a total of 231 times with 43 goals and 48 assists.

Shaqiri has speed on and off the ball and is a player who is unpredictable on the ball, adept with both feet, clinical in front of goal while possessing excellent vision.

Just what we need at Newcastle!
