Shane Ferguson could well be leaving Newcastle today,k as Milwall manager Neil Harris is keen to sign the Northern Ireland U21 international, who seems to have no future at Newcastle.
Shane has had two loan spells while at Newcastle, principally to Birmingham City, where he went on loan twice and then this year at Glasgow Rangers, although he was injured most of the time.
Shane Ferguson in action against York in pre-season
The 24-year-old is a versatile player and can play in almost any position on the left side of the field including left back and left wing, and he even played center-back on Newcastle’s American tour this summer.
Milwall boss Neil Harris said in last night’s fans forum meeting at The Den that he wanted to sign a left-winger today – and that could well be Shane Ferguson.
That player will play in place of the injured Joe Martin in tomorrow’s opening game of the season at Shrewsbury.
Shane has spent eight years on Tyneside, and at one time he looked a very promising player at left back, when Alan Pardew played him in the first team in April of 2011, when he looked very good at left back.
But in his loan spells at Birmingham City he didn’t come through as well as had been hoped, and he is now looking for a new club to reignite his career.
Shane played 32 times for the Newcastle first team and has played 18 times for Northern Ireland.
Comments welcome.

They will be in Newcastle today – so see if you can help out a very good cause – you can read about their exploits and denote on their website pedalforpounds here.

Comment #41On a serious note:
Jamesy that is how I would like us to be set up. I reckon it will be Obertan for the first 60 minutes though. Most likely Taylor instead of Colo or Mbemba

Comment #43On Shane Ferguson – see ya.
Thought he might just have something to build on but it never happened, and loan spells found that out.

Comment #45Who do we all think will be higher in the pecking order, Lascelles, Williamson or Taylor??
I would like to Lascelles given a chance, if not send him on loan for 6 months.

Tayls. But I rate Lascelles. Think he has a lot of potential. Less said about Willo the better.

Comment #50Jamsey – in reality it will be Willo, Taylor, Lascelles. The proper one would be provisionally Tayls, Lascelles. Then after a run of decent performances hopefully Lascelles, Tayls.

Comment #51I very much doubt Mbemba will be playing centre back until he has learned the language either. Covering Janmaat until then I reckon.

from macca’s point of view i think williamson will be top of those 3.
lescalles def is not ready and if managed correctly he will not be pushed into hard games and let nature take its place for his positioning skills to drop into place.
and williamson is more of a bum licker than saylor so think he will get ahead of him in mac’s rating.

He speaks French, which a large amount of our squad know and he was speaking to them against Borussia Monchengladbach, so think he can communicate to them. Don’t think that’s a problem, especially as I would expect him to be able to speak to Anita, Krul, Janmaat, Sissoko, Cabella, Haidara, Tiote, Cisse etc.

more of a case of yes sir no sir three bags full sir.
if he’s told something he will try to do it level headed and not like saylor who will try far too hard and end up getting sent off as he was not told to put a dot above the i 😉

Aye that may be an issue. I know Taylor made some comments about 3 years a go that he was learning French but no idea whether that would apply to the other two i have no idea. Ordinarily one would have hoped that the captain would have attempted to learn French to help bed people in but we’ll never know about that…

Haha fair point, Id have Willo over Saylor though. Mr NUFC is good when fit and settled but is never fit so can never be settled, Willo is average and rarely injured (and paid less…I dare say smarter as well)

Ha! The idea of Tayls learning French makes me laugh as per WWSBRD’s last comment! Joey Barton said he wasn’t the sharpest knife and I think that’s an understatement. Still love him though – puts his body on the line and is technically better than he’s given credit for.

Comment #67Centre of defence is a disaster waiting to happen. Colo and M’bemba together just don’t have enough height to counter the big lads when the crosses come in, Taylor and Willo are well proven second raters, and Lascelles and Satka look to be a mile off PL pace. To start the season with this group is just inviting trouble. If McClaren is happy with that lot, he really is a wally,.

Comment #74I think the team McClaren will go with is;
Krul
Janmaat Taylor Coloccini Haidara
Anita Colback
Sissoko Wijnaldum Aarons
Cisse
I’ve got a feeling he might bring Mitro on later to get the crowd up like Pards used to do with Ben Arfa. Hopefully not, i’d prefer to see him start. Aaron’s been too good in pre-season to leave out, get Colo fit by playing him.

Comment #75Brian, think he will play Perez instead of Aarons, other than that will be surprised if its not that team, would be disappointed if Obertan got the nod, would be over the moon if he plays De Jong in a ten role and drops Wini into a midfield two, instead of either, probably Anita.

Comment #77Brian@74 – I agree, I can see that being exactly the starting line up. McClaren will want a core of experienced players. It won’t be good enough to do Soton mind, but there you have it.

Perez maybe a shout. I think he plays Anita and Colback as a more defensive option. They are there to stay back and cover the full-backs when they bomb forward. When we’ve been chasing in pre-season he’s brought Wij back and put Siem to 10 as a plan B which is pretty much what he said he’d continue to do in the radio interview the other day.
De Jong is too good to be a super-sub but the balance of the team is probably better and more solid without him.
