Newcastle Bid £11M For International Rejected

11:17 pm, Saturday, August 8th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 36 Comments

It’s Sunday so you can expect that some transfer news relating to Newcastle will be in the Sunday papers and would you believe it – news in the People from former Chronicle reporter Alan Oliver that Newcastle have put in a bid of £11M for Bordeaux striker Diego Rolan, who we have been linked with all summer.

Diego Rolan – £11M bid turned down

Newcastle need to bring in another striker within the next three weeks, but it was thought that we would go after Charlie Austin, but it seems Newcastle have turned their attentions elsewhere.

But the French club have rejected the bid for the 22-year-old Uruguayan International, although the report is that the valuations of the two clubs are not too far away, and that an agreement could be reached soon.

We really have no idea if this report has any truth in it – there’s no news in the French press on this that we can find.

However, it may be that Newcastle are looking elsewhere maybe in a bid to get QPR to drop their price on their 26 year-old striker Charlie Austin.

Charlie played 86 minutes in the 2-0 defeat at Charlton today in their first game of the Championship season.

It could also be that Newcastle think that Rolan is better value than Austin.

Looking back on our records Newcastle were reported to have bid €15M for Rolan on July 4th – and that’s around £10.5M – so both reports can hardly both be accurate.

Some information on Diego Rolan.

Rolan joined Bordeaux from Defensor Sporting two years ago and while at Defensor he played 41 time with 11 goals and 4 assists.

In September last year Rolan made his debut for Uruguay in a friendly win against Japan in Sapporo, and his first International goal came in a 2–1 away victory over Chile last November.

In May of this year Rolan was included in Uruguay’s squad for the 2015 Copa America by coach Oscar Tabarez, and he has so far received 6 full caps and scored one goal for his country.

Comments welcome.

  • 9 JamesToon // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:30 PM

Jut CB is much more important

Abel Hernandez at hull remember him cost a fortune and couldn’t hit a barn door. Stick to what you know Austin all day for me.

he’d fit in well at Swansea? Haha no I know bugger all about him

Lovely finish by Walker though remember when he was England next RB ah memories! And now we have Clyne (who wasn’t good enough for NUFC not too long ago) being insulted at international level! What an era we live in

  • 13 welshgeordie9 // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:30 PM

  • 15 WWSBRD // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:33 PM

  • 19 JackButler // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:35 PM

You have no idea how pleased I was when GoMiss signed for Swansea and not us, for such a big lad he’s pants, reminds me of Kenwyne Jones in stature and ability 🙂

@5, read it on the last thread, far too tired to repost, the chemo is killing me.

  • 21 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:36 PM

Steve McClaren if you are reading this sign 1 of

    Charlie Austin
    Saido Berahino
    Javier Hernandez
    a CB and a winger

  • 22 WWSBRD // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:36 PM

Just for that god awful celebration am glad he didn’t come here! Someone needs to have a word with him about that

  • 23 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:37 PM

Gomis is like Riviere all huff and puff but crap in front of goal

G I read it Austin is a cracking player

  • 24 Belfast // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:38 PM

Pay the 13 million for blog legend Charlie Austin.

    Swerve this bloke.

  • 25 JackButler // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:38 PM

Bit of news for you, my cousin and uncle were working on Gareth Bales dads house and they asked him about joining Man Utd (both mad Man U fans) and he said not this year, he’s happy in Spain but maybe next year

  • 26 colwell // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:39 PM

This season is going to fcuking hard, pretty much every team has decent players.
Watching match of the day I still feel we desperately need more pace in the team and a beast at CB. Villa,Swansea,Watford etc all had a big striker that won alot in the air playing Colo and Mbemba together would be suicide, even worse then playing the poorest CB in the world Willo.

  • 27 beermonkey // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:41 PM

yeah think its over for us this summer

does shearer want something from mouriniho
    shearer jose love in

  • 28 welshgeordie9 // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:43 PM

Can’t really compare gomis and Austin.

When one is English who’s been around in this country against a guy apart from last season has never been over here before, alright he only scored eight goals last season but they were good goals and he was behind bony.

  • 29 welshgeordie9 // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:44 PM

Watch him score a hat trick next weekend.

    Ha ha ha

  • 30 nufcrich21 // Aug 8, 2015 at 11:47 PM

People are saying Colo and mbemba would be a poor pairing at centre back. For not being the tallest centre back mbemba is very good in the air. Very aggresive header of the ball. Not being funny but Williamson for his height is useless in the air. Along with being useless at everything else

agreed rich. hopefully they start together tomorrow

  • 32 geordielad880 // Aug 9, 2015 at 12:44 AM

I watch alot of french football, rolan is nothing special, hard working, decent strength, a slight upgrade on gouffran, worth 7-8m at most, austin is a good player, but still think we need a striker who has some pace, and a good first touch, something cisse isnt, mitrovic will be top drawer, will score goals, best of our signings so far, confident, scores goals, great touch, movement, great in air, so strong, and can only get better as he gets older

  • 33 geordielad880 // Aug 9, 2015 at 12:50 AM

my signings for summer would be:- s.dann, winjnaldum, mbemba, mitrovic, a.beck (rb hoffenheim, who has just signed for besiktas) if you look at our squad we need a right back,a centre back, and a striker with pace, who can play in wide areas

  • 34 lochinvar // Aug 9, 2015 at 3:27 AM

Moanrinio has criticised Chelsea Dr. Eva Camerio for treating an injured player on the pitch. So he’s now turning on his own staff to avoid venting his hissy fits on the Refs.
If she wants to tel him to take a running job and join a professional club with excellent Management, Coaching and back room staff she would be very welcome at SJP.

  • 35 OneAlanShearer // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:48 AM

If sissoko signs a new deal I would sign a centre back, a defensive midfielder who can act as a playmaker and a top quality striker ideally austin.

  • 36 loonie-toon // Aug 9, 2015 at 11:16 AM

If price for Austin been dropped to around 12 y ant we gone in for him instead proved he can cut it in prem and want to come to us
