It’s Sunday so you can expect that some transfer news relating to Newcastle will be in the Sunday papers and would you believe it – news in the People from former Chronicle reporter Alan Oliver that Newcastle have put in a bid of £11M for Bordeaux striker Diego Rolan, who we have been linked with all summer.
Diego Rolan – £11M bid turned down
Newcastle need to bring in another striker within the next three weeks, but it was thought that we would go after Charlie Austin, but it seems Newcastle have turned their attentions elsewhere.
But the French club have rejected the bid for the 22-year-old Uruguayan International, although the report is that the valuations of the two clubs are not too far away, and that an agreement could be reached soon.
We really have no idea if this report has any truth in it – there’s no news in the French press on this that we can find.
However, it may be that Newcastle are looking elsewhere maybe in a bid to get QPR to drop their price on their 26 year-old striker Charlie Austin.
Charlie played 86 minutes in the 2-0 defeat at Charlton today in their first game of the Championship season.
It could also be that Newcastle think that Rolan is better value than Austin.
Looking back on our records Newcastle were reported to have bid €15M for Rolan on July 4th – and that’s around £10.5M – so both reports can hardly both be accurate.
Some information on Diego Rolan.
Rolan joined Bordeaux from Defensor Sporting two years ago and while at Defensor he played 41 time with 11 goals and 4 assists.
In September last year Rolan made his debut for Uruguay in a friendly win against Japan in Sapporo, and his first International goal came in a 2–1 away victory over Chile last November.
In May of this year Rolan was included in Uruguay’s squad for the 2015 Copa America by coach Oscar Tabarez, and he has so far received 6 full caps and scored one goal for his country.
