Gini Wijnaldum after scoring great goal

Here are three of the four goals today – the first one –  a strong header from Pelle is missing – but there’s good coverage of the other three goals, including Newcastle’s two goals – the important ones.

  • 5 CypriotDelight // Aug 9, 2015 at 5:37 PM

Yeah it was Chancel. I was worried but enjoyed what we produced. A work in progress that will get better – holding the Saints ain’t a bad thing. God bless the streaming on the box 😉

Liverpool look terrible. Stand out teams this week=West-Ham and Swansea.

For anyone interested you can pick up a Amazon firestick for £35 load kodi onto it and watch Pritty much every match. Or you can get them on eBay ready to go for like £50-£60

  • 7 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 9, 2015 at 5:40 PM

    Just got in from match
Overall much better performance and what a difference at the back when Krul has the ball centre halfs go wide to pick up the pass Anita drops into centre half pos to pick up the ball full backs bomb on – A BREATH OF FRESH AIR to see us playing out from the back.
My MOM was Anita in defensive midfield – always wanted the ball kept it simple with passes moved into space to pick ball up and got in a couple of challenges. Thought Colback did OK but when on the ball wanted one/two extra touches before passing.
New lads Mbemba and Wijnaldum were class.

Think we would of won if Anita had not got injured as Tiote looked miles off the pace when he came on and huge spaces appeared in front of defence.

All-in-All a much better performance than most in the last two years

    hahahaha kevymartins

Actually i had aarons in instead of obertan for my preferred team. But go on you pipe up with all your other mates saying how obertan was dreadful again, and anita was dreadful again….

Like a bunch of robots yous are man, fickle as hell, Yet if you actually analysed the game you wouldve saw that another scapegoat anita was probs the reason why we pressed so well as a team until he came off.

And Obertan is an awful footballer but he did today the only thing he can do and thats use his pace down the wings so for that i give him credit since you’re too proud to do so yourself.

  • 13 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:00 PM

watched Mission Impossible Rogue Nation on Kodi the other night, what a brill film

  • 14 hibbit // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:01 PM

mr broon we all see things in a different light……. if your going to play oberton you need a strong fb we don’t have one if we play haidara you need a winger that will cover oberton wont we can only play one of these two they just don’t work together one or the other

  • 15 catchy in norway // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:03 PM

    Krul – 6.5
    Janmaat – 6,5
    Mbemba – 7,5
    Colo – 6,5
    Haidara – 6,5
    Anita – 7,5
    Colback 7,5
    Sissoko –7,5
    Obertan – 7
    Wiji – 7,5
    Cisse – 7

  • 16 the broons // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:05 PM

Well am a big fan of aarons but he can’t defend for toffee, so what you propose we do?

  • 17 kevymartins // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:11 PM

The broom didnt say anything about Anita?

Please tell me what did obertan do while he was playing down the left? Nothing he did nothing swiched to the right and got an assist and that was it.

  • 18 hibbit // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:12 PM

mr broon not changing my tune we need a first team LB and have done for long time

  • 19 anthc // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:14 PM

Some positives out of today I thought, gini and mbemba had good games although gini faded in second half.
Obertan was average for me as stated freezes when it comes to taking a man on. He gives decent cover but offers very little going forward imo.
Haidara is a concern for me and de Jong looks like his brother, a waste of a squad place.
Cisse worked his socks off too although he can’t elude that poor touch of his when it matters. I did think the ovation got the better of mitrovic too with that silly foul but he’s young and showed some good glimpses.
A slight improvement on pardumb but I’m yet to be convinced and will give it a few months before I pass judgement on the mclaren crew.
By the way how big did tiote look? Over weight and out of shape the lad needs disciplining imo. Absolute disgrace for a pro footballer.

  • 20 kevymartins // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:15 PM

The broom on the first half why did the commentators keep talking about Obertan was afraid to cross with his left foot he kept cutting in to right foot an getting the ball took off him.

Looks like Shaqiri is off to Stoke !

Inter Milan’s Xherdan Shaqri was in the stand at The Britannia Stadium. Stoke bid for the Switzerland international during pre-season and it seemed he was allowed to leave the San Siro but was hesitant.

Hughes has had this to say: “It is a deal we hope to conclude and we would be delighted but nothing is certain in the transfer window.”

  • 35 will die for the toon army // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:47 PM

If Mcclaren and his staff improve NUFC defence with Colo and Mbemba as starters then it will b big up to them.

I think e weak link was Haidara or Obertan not sure but all crosses came from that wing. Janmatt fell asleep for both goals he is so poor in the air.

Nice to see more optimism after the game, even though usual suspects still whinging.
Thought supporters got behind the team…

  • 42 martoon // Aug 9, 2015 at 6:57 PM

Evening lads I quite enjoyed the match today – quite a good game and we showed potential for the season.
Anyway to predictions – I got 98 predictions and I’ve taken the mean of the results (mode for top goal scorer)which gives us an average score of:-
    Final position in League: 10
    Final no. of points: 53
League Cup round: 5 (quarter final)
FA cup round: 5 (last 16)
No of 1st team signings this season: 5
No of 1st team leaving this season: 3
    Top goal scorer: Mitrovic
No of goals for top scorer: 15

A few optimists think we’ll win the league cup and/or FA cup. Mitrovic was the overwhelming choice for top goal scorer ranging from 10 to 28 goals! A handful went for Cisse and a couple for Perez and Wjinaldum. A couple of jokers went for Austin and Riviere 🙂

  • 43 Mister Tuff // Aug 9, 2015 at 7:02 PM

Better performance than expected – could have had three points -but a fair result in the end.
Agree that Jamaat needs to defend a bit better and he is weak in the air.
superb cross from Obertron for the goal – he looked across to see who was in the middle and his cross was inch perfect (expat -this does not make him a good player in the slightest and he never will be).
New players did ok, Mr T very rusty.
But at least getting that out of the way allows us to assess where we are.
So defence needs sorting and another forward.

    reilly thanks for Zeus mate

  • 49 Nufc-83 // Aug 9, 2015 at 7:25 PM

Obertan had many chances to do something today but nearly everytime was useless (although much better than what we expect from him). great assist but overall should he be playing 1st team wide position for Newcastle United – I’m afraid not even close. Is he better option than Aaron’s- certainly not. He defended so poorly for goals and haidara got the stick although……

Haidara was utter garbage today and is so raw it’s unreal. He tries to cross everything 1st time even when beckham would struggle instead of having a touch of composure. Most of his crosses either blocked or out for a goal kick. The lad needs to develop an awful lot before being our 1st choice.

We are desperate for an established LB and we really should not have sold santon as although not great defensively (similar to what we have) and always cut inside his composure ndtechnical ability was srreets ahead of anything in our current team.

  • 50 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 9, 2015 at 7:27 PM

    Agree TOON looked tired .
One: Southampton are up to speed having paid two Euro Cup games
Two: We played meaningless games in USA and a friendly at home last week which was played at a walk and to many substitutions.
Three: Mitrovic, Mbemba who looked immense have had little game time with their long drawn out transfers.
So hopefully in another couple of games we will be up to speed

  • 51 Nufc-83 // Aug 9, 2015 at 7:29 PM

Only problem with dummett for lb is he is the mike Williamson of full back. Does ok and better than haidara defensively but when he gets forward is utter garbage.

Very disappointed in jaanmat today although long is a beast in the air he is normally decent at defending crosses and had much better starting position on long (just needed to get body under the ball ffs)

  • 52 midweek weekend // Aug 9, 2015 at 7:32 PM

McClaren said too, mbemba trained only 30 minutes and colo hasn’t played a single minute of pre season, i think the defensive partnership why grow strength to strength so considering both players where chucked in the deep end they both played well, and we really are unlucky not to win the game, roll on swansea now

  • 53 the white tino // Aug 9, 2015 at 7:45 PM

I think I got your mean (average) pretty much spot on mate!!

  • 54 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 9, 2015 at 7:53 PM

    Observations from Bar 1892.

Most impressed with Wijnaldum. Looked class. Fantastic goal. Can’t think of another like it from us. Ever.

Promising PL debut from Mbemba. One particular good moment where he showed he takes no prisoners if need be.

    Must keep Sissoko. Powerful display.

Janmaat looked solid but looked at fault for second goal.

Good to see Makro and Costco getting a better view from the stands. Something I’ve long advocated.

The rest looked like the same players who nearly got us relegated. My fear is they’ll bring the new lads down to their level.

Please rid us of Colo. Too slow and too soft. Worried me to death throughout. Former legend who is long overstaying his welcome. Needs a fresh challenge.

Krul not commanding enough again. He needs some top coaching.

Mitrovic looked heavy and unfit. Not sure he understsnds that he’s got to work hard in this league. He could take a lesson from Pelle.

Not sure what De Jong brings. If he’s got qualities, he’s still hiding them. I’d swap him for Mane in a heartbeat. What a threat he is!

Good entertainment. Early days. Plenty for Makro and Costco to work on. Austin please.

  • 55 martoon // Aug 9, 2015 at 8:00 PM

the white tino @53 – You’re right 1 out on transfers and a couple on goals but very impressive – of course the average may not reflect the actual!
