Brilliant Adam Armstrong Scores Another Brace In Coventry Win

6:05 pm, Saturday, August 15th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 38 Comments

Adam Armstrong produced another brace today for the second game running,  and now has four goals in just two games for Coventry City, as they easily beat Millwall 4-0 at The Den this afternoon.

Both Armstrong’s goals came in the first half, which started off with a penalty for Milwall after 4 just minutes, but Gregory had his spot-kick saved by Burge and that wasn’t the start the home side wanted.

Armstrong scored just two minutes after the missed penalty,  as he brilliantly lobbed over David Forde from some distance out to put Coventry ahead.

Lameiras scored Coventry’s second and then the Geordie lad added another goal after 24 minutes, as he broke away beating the offside trap,  and with only the goalkeeper to beat he produced a nice cool finish to make it 3-0.

Millwall tried to come back in the second half, but it was Coventry who got their fourth goal from Jim O’Brien to make it a good 4-0 away win for Coventry.

Adam Armstrong has made a great start to his six month loan spell at Coventry and has four goals in just two appearances.

Adam was taken off after 83 minutes today, but the damage was already done by then.

That’s something Steve McClaren can be pleased about today after Newcastle were well beaten 2-0 at Swansea, after Daryl Janmaat had got himself sent off in the first half after picking up two yellow cards.

Comments welcome.

@Nufc-83 + @ GeordieTwo I just don’t get what the higher ups at our club are thinking . We have some really talented attacking options but our defence is STILL the weak link and has been since 2008 FFS yet we still haven’t rectified it . That’s why everyone crying out for Austin (Although I would love him at NUFC) are missing the bigger picture of our defence being garbage bar M’bemba and Janmaat (not today mind you and he deserves a slap for that) whereas I would rather we spent the remaining transfer kitty (if any) was spent on the defence . –Janmaat——Abdennour——M’bemba——Willems– Anyway, I’ll just enjoy watching Dortmund destroy Borussia . – See more at: http://www.nufcblog.com/2015/08/15/nightmare-game-for-newcastle-full-back/#comment-1526318

Anyway, I’ll just enjoy watching Dortmund destroy Borussia .

Elmo from Hull please. £3m is a snip and Janmaat can take a seat on the bench until an opportunity arises to redeem himself.

  • 5 Ron Knee // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:09 PM

    G2@2
Exactly. And McClaren can take strength from that!

  • 6 Thump // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:09 PM

    From last:

@GeordieTwo: I reckon Colo’s contract extension was a power play by Schteve. Some managers drop a high profile player, other managers will flog somebody at the drop of a hat, others (like Schteve) impress their authority by handing an “important” player a new contract.

  • 7 GeordieTwo // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:11 PM

Important hair advisor Thump mate. His playing days are over. We’re the only club that don’t realize that. Ominous for our chances this season.

  • 8 GeordieTwo // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:12 PM

Spot on Big Pappa @3. Our leadership group are a bunch of knobs…..

  • 9 Belfast // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:13 PM

I’ll say this in the nicest possible way. 🙂

The Serbian bloke is a complete and utter f****** idiot. Honestly, two weeks on the spin he could have been sent off with in seconds.

Would I trust him to start a game? Not in a million years.

I can see why he’s been compared to Ballotelli. Ballotelli is also an idiot.

  • 10 Thump // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:13 PM

@G2: Completely agreed. He’s wanted away for years and the only reason he hasn’t done one yet is because nobody but San Lorenzo (and Pardew) want him.

  • 11 GeordieTwo // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:14 PM

Steve is a knob! Graham is a knob!
    Contract extension for Colo????
    Madness!!!

Wait are we agreeing on something? I feel dirty

  • 13 mightymag // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:14 PM

Think austin is overrated, how many penalties did he score last season? About 10? For me we need a tall CB a RB and a LB!

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren says that naivety cost his side after they were beaten 2-0 by Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon.

The Magpies, who had Daryl Janmaat sent off before half time, were beaten thanks to goals from Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew.

“We didn’t learn a lot apart from it is difficult to win with 10 men,” McClaren told BBC Sport.

“A little bit of naivety has cost us, 10 men and your backs are against the wall. We have to dust ourselves down and concentrate on the Manchester United game next week.

“I’m not too sure whether it was a second booking but we knew he would be a danger and unfortunately we fell into the trap.”

The result leaves McClaren’s side in 15th place the Premier League table, with one point from their opening two games.

  • 15 yorkymag // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:15 PM

It’s interesting that almost everyone is having a go at the defenders and janmat today was indefensible but both this week and last week there is a common thread that exposes the defensive unit our problem so far is imo the same as last season and that is central midfield or more accurately midfield in general
Cool back is simply too slow ,sissokko is lazy,Anita is limited ,ginni has real talent but is a number 10 and obertans would not get in another premier league team
We will continue to be over run and until this fundamental area is resolved we will struggle
The defenders we have would look completly different if they had a combination of Southampton and Swansea midfield in front of them 2 midfielders is a major a priority
Sell Sissoko if necessary but a pacey tackler and a passer urgently needed – See more at: http://www.nufcblog.com/2015/08/15/nightmare-game-for-newcastle-full-back/#comments

WE are the only Prem club that would extend Colo’s contract at his age. There is no excuse for that. It is complete incompetence.

  • 17 yorkymag // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:17 PM

    Ed
    Who cares about Armstrong
He is playing in the third division I wish him well but he is simply not good enough and has found his level

  • 18 GeordieTwo // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:17 PM

It’s honey badgers down the underpants of the entire board….They richly deserve it!!!!

  • 19 WWSBRD // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:17 PM

  • 20 Ron Knee // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:18 PM

Any theories as to why Wyjnaldum so so anonymous today?

  • 21 GeordieTwo // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:18 PM

15th place? Right where we belong…..

  • 22 Ron Knee // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:18 PM

    Oops. “was so anonymous”

  • 23 Jail for Ashley // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:19 PM

    Jib,
I accuse Collo of being a shitehouse for getting sent off deliberately against Everton amongst other things and I’m a wretched fan, you accuse Jaanmat of the same thing, but it’s ok you’re a great fan because you love Mikey. Food for thought !

  • 24 Belfast // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:19 PM

    Yep I feel dirty too.

  • 25 WWSBRD // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:20 PM

    Belfast
Haha if Mitrovic starts against Man Utd though he will be off within 10 minutes unless he curbs that aggression

  • 26 GeordieTwo // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:20 PM

Get your heads straight lads. There’s narsty business up ahead. I hope we see some pride and passion against ManU…..

  • 27 Belfast // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:22 PM

Probably the reason nobody else in the division wanted him. Heed case.

  • 28 Ron Knee // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:22 PM

    G2
But not too much passion from Mitrovic, surely?

  • 29 GeordieTwo // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:22 PM

Wij fit right in with the rest of the pinheads Ron Knee mate. They looked abject. They all deserve a good roasting over the coals to wake them up…..

  • 30 Jail for Ashley // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:23 PM

    yorkymag,
Scoring 4 in 2 is more than finding your level.

  • 31 firebug666 // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:23 PM

Based on our performance today I think Man Utd will destroy us without needing to get into second gear.

We are now back to where every team want’s to play us for the easy three points.

  • 32 GeordieTwo // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:23 PM

    Cold clinical finishing from Mito!!!!!

  • 33 yorkymag // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:24 PM

    Jail
We will see at the end of the season ,he may be able to play one division higher but not premier league in a million years

  • 34 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:24 PM

    Firebug

I’m not so sure, Man U haven’t looked very good in there first two games even though they’ve won both 1-0, If we set out the team right and attack rather than sit back we can give Man U a game

  • 35 Noel Worst // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:29 PM

Papiss Cisse has 26 touches in 54 minutes today.

Aleksandar Mitrovic had 32 touches. In 13 mins!

More proof if it was needed that Cisse is a lazy shite!

Mitrovic will pose more of a threat, Mitrovic will help build attacks, Mitrovic will show desire and heart.

  • 36 firebug666 // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:30 PM

    Take a Chancel on me

That’s a big “if” mate, based on today we will not be in or around the top half of this years table, we are also away to Man U I think, this will be the game to kick start their season.

I thought Norwich would be the brow beaten boys this season, but maybe I was wrong, I think I allowed optimism to rule my head and feel I should have known better.

  • 37 welshgeordie9 // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:32 PM

Come on Charie get another 2 and you will be worth 15 million pounds.

    Not

  • 38 Mag_jack // Aug 15, 2015 at 6:36 PM

Don’t see why obertan has started these past two games. Utility player at best. Mitrovic is clearly getting frustrated coming 2nd best to cisse. Needs starting against manure before he kills someone. Southamptons result today makes our draw at home look less impressive
