First Man Of The Match Award For This Player

2:38 pm, Sunday, August 16th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 56 Comments

Cancel Mbemba is our Man of the Match for yesterday’s poor display at Swansea, when we were very much second best and went down 2-0, but that scoreline doesn’t tell of Swansea’s dominance, and of course it didn’t help that Daryl Janmaat was sent off in the first half after 41 minutes.

That was the second time this year the Dutchman has been sent off, after being dismissed late in the game at Leicester City in May – which was another very poor display by Newcastle.

Chancel Mbemba Newcastle United Jefferson Montero Swansea City

Chancel Mbemba challenges the excellent Jefferson Montero yesterday

Chancel got 33% of the vote and he was followed by the very consistent Jack Colback – who edged out another new boy – Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Serbian International was only on the field for 8 minutes but still managed to pick up another yellow card.

It was a (very) bad day at the office for Newcastle United, and we just have to hope we play a lot better than this next Saturday at Old Trafford.

If we don’t we could get hammered.

    Colback was shocking.

    Ashley Out!

  • 3 Sliema // Aug 16, 2015 at 2:42 PM

    Cisse 0% days it all.

  • 4 sing in the corner // Aug 16, 2015 at 2:42 PM

    Janmaat 6%…
Hmmm. Certainly puts the MOM votes into perspective I have to admit

Pathetic display, but lets not let the doom and gloom start already. We have no idea how long McClarens approach is going to take in terms of the players getting used to it. Players don’t adapt to a new system through pre-season only, remember they have to adapt after 4 years under Pardew- cant be easy.

Don’t agree with Cisse starting on his own up front, brings nothing as a footballer apart from his goal scoring touch but if he can’t help build up play so that he gets the ball in a dangerous area, what’s the point of him being on the pitch? If he has someone to play along side him like Mitrovic then I can see him being more useful. Why do you think Cisse played do well in his first season? Having players like Ba, Ben Arfa and Cabaye around him. Unfortunately only Wijnaldum really gets close to that, maybe Sissoko.

  • 7 Llort muw // Aug 16, 2015 at 2:46 PM

    Do = so.

  • 8 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 2:50 PM

I think mclaren actually might be able to turn us into a mediocre tread water outfit by the end of January so no need to panic. We will probably be in the bottom five by Crimbo but that’s to be expected it’s a rebuilding process. When we end up nudging elbows with the usual mid table denizens by the season end we should all have settled back into accepting another five year plan and the memories of the Ashley Judgement Day Video will have long been consigned to historical curiosity. Just hang in there.

  • 9 lochinvar // Aug 16, 2015 at 2:52 PM

    What’s this what’s this ?
Arsenal not having players booked for the second time after numerous incidents and no sending off.
Wenger then realises danger and pulls player off.
    Percy not happy !
    Refs useless – no consistency
FA are FA as well , clearly no interest from their side.

  • 10 Rotonda heights // Aug 16, 2015 at 2:52 PM

If your player is about to be sent off for repeated fouling take him off before you go down to 10!!!!

  • 11 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 2:55 PM

Oh, and here’s a money saving tips for the thrifty – hold off on buying those spare season tickets for now, come December time there’ll be special offers on those half – season tickets the perfect Xmas present for the down in the mouth, worthless second class fan, the gift that keeps on giving because you’ll have missed all those hammerings that put us deep into the bottom half of the table, but got your cut price bargain ringside seat for that nail biting entertainment of the relegation run-in. Everybody Wins!

  • 12 Marty-Toon // Aug 16, 2015 at 2:57 PM

I don’t miss seeing Pardew on the side of the pitch for us but he’s got himself a decent team that has a proper work ethic and good movement throughout the team along with decent defenders.
Something that he never got the chance to build at our place.
Cabaye is ten times the players we have in his position,he picks up the ball and gets the team moving quickly which is something we aren’t getting with Ginger, actually would rather see Abeid in there as I think he’s better with the ball

  • 13 JP...from The Rock // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:00 PM

Any news on new signings? We need more quality. What do you guys think of Thauvin? I think he’s worth a punt but we certainly need to address the defense as it is clear we need to reinforce there. Hopefully we will straight after Thaivin if rumours are true.

  • 14 Marty-Toon // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:00 PM

Having said that he inherited the bette players there,I’d have Puncheon,Zaha,Dann and cabaye

  • 15 jazzyp // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:02 PM

Jesus Christ Tsunki why don’t ya go and cut ya wrists now son. If Nufc disturbs you that bad then cut your losses and walk away

  • 16 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:03 PM

I don’t want anymore pansy french coming in. Need some committed, tough and talented players that can actually improve us rather than find themselves out of their depth and stewing like Cabella and Gouffran.

  • 17 jazzyp // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:04 PM

    JP from the rocks

I don’t think the Thauvin rumour is true mate as he has started today for Marseille.
I would have thought he would have been pulled if a transfer was imminent

  • 18 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:05 PM

That is a pretty accurate sounding prediction though. Without deluding ourselves any further that’s the most likely scenario the club will be in.

  • 19 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:08 PM

it’s not simply a case of players needing to gel, manager getting his system / tactics/ style drilled into the players. it’s simple stuff. Like we don’t have enough good football players for important positions. We are waiting to see when and if the new and old players will be able to work together with a reasonable understanding. We have a shocking legacy of poor fitness which is tied in with an astounding injury record. We are waiting to see how long it takes thus club to fix the patchwork amateurish money – first, money -second idiocy of a business model and instil some of the former necessary sporting ethic back into the fabric of the institution.

For some it is merely a waiting game and the intentions and ambitions of our incumbent overlords are beyond reproach or question. For others it is very much business as usual with a new painted sign on the store front to cheer everybody up.

  • 20 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:12 PM

Jazzy – my penchant for sometimes over the top sarcastic observation has either made you laugh and reply in similarly sarcastic style, or you are clearly upset by my doom laden humour to the point of telling me where I can go and how fast. Currently I’m not sure which it is. But for the record just Tsunki on it’s own will do. I don’t aspire to anything greater, although I’m flattered. 🙂

  • 21 John Tudor // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:12 PM

either the players are crap or the manager or both even disgusting display inept in every department

  • 22 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:13 PM

Anyone know how long it took to build Rome btw? 😉

  • 23 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:13 PM

2011-12 = Tiote and Cabaye in the centre in their prime at the top of their game.

    2015-16 = Anita and Colback.

We will be bottom half until that is massively upgraded.

  • 24 Jib // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:14 PM

I thought I would join you in your over inflated view of the none descript repertoire we enjoy so much being a toon fan.
Please do not feel flattered that it was aimed at your good self.
But please feel free to keep up the good work !!

  • 26 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:17 PM

we are all over reacting and I include myself in that, we’ve played two games and it’s gonna take Macca time to put his stamp on the team, yes we do need some more players before the window slams shut.

  • 27 9 // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:17 PM

Test your knowledge time. Only 2 questions:
! Who is the only Premier League team to have already conceded 3 goals this season to headers?
2 Where do you think a sensible person might consider strengthening our squad?
    Over to you, chaps.

  • 28 lochinvar // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:18 PM

Colo needs to resign the Captaincy – that would be respected even admired.
Who would take the armband then and play most weeks and call the odds is difficult to see .
But at least that would take the pressure off McLaren picking him every week.
First picks should be Mwemba and Van Dijk.
Second picks for bench and Cup games Taylor and Colo with Dummett as back up utility defender.
Is McLaren for some tough decisions.

  • 29 kimbo // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:20 PM

If we play Anita we will be relegated.
Why do we play Area 51, it is totally sad if Obertan is the best we have got at that position.
A 6ft4+ CD is a must this week.

  • 30 jazzyp // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:20 PM

A voice of reason……Nice one mate

  • 31 Jib // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:21 PM

Give Arsenal , Lee Mason every weekend , and they’ll win the Prem at a canter

  • 32 Rotonda heights // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:23 PM

    marty toon

give it up he had 4 years ffs

  • 33 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:23 PM

No I’m not really predicting relegation, if you check with Martoon you will find I am probably league leader in optimistic outcome of our team this year. I’m hoping that the new broom will sweep clean in not too long a time. And I’m realistic at how long it takes to right the mess made up until last season. There’s at least 8 years of spring cleaning to catch up on.

BUT don’t try and convince me this isn’t the NUFC that is owned by the folk that brought you ‘ I own you ‘ SD advertising everywhere you look, renamed SJP and skipped the gates, that got this clubs name affiliated with a loan company whose shady practices had to be restrained by Government Act, that has hired a succession of poor employees unfit for duty, to the point of retaining an archaic coaching crew because they had no other plans and faced relegation due to it, who were exposed as liars in a Court of Law, who constructively dismissed our last competitive manager, who maintained aloof radio silence during bitter discontent rather than allay fans fears. All this and more. They’re still here, they’re still capable of anything. So I hope for the best, but I don’t discount their inherent nature.

  • 34 Ian Toon // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:24 PM

    – Tsunki! And there was I thinking you had lapsed into one of Catchy’s, David Brent style psychological games which we can just ignore. What a disappointment I couldn’t resist.
You have been around a bit – at NUFC if things don’t change they stay the same.

  • 35 Ian Toon // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:26 PM

I still think we will finish 9th. We need to sort out the defence.

  • 36 arpeco19 // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:27 PM

Anita, colback, obertan, cisse, would not start against Man Utd in my opinion, they’ve offered nothing in their overall play in two games and in pre season… They’re poor players. And they need to be replaced.
If fit my team would be:

    ———————- Krul—————–

    Mbemba/ Taylor/ Colocinni/ Haidara

    ———–Sissoko/ Wijnaldum————

    Aarons——— De Jong———– Perez

    ——————- Mitrovic—————

  • 37 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:27 PM

Ian I genuinely don’t know what that meant.

  • 38 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:31 PM

It does make me laugh with a tinge of disappointment that Cisse is included in the list of current no-hopers. Disappointment because I would have thought that more would have surmised that an effectively lone striker marooned by an inept midfield is not really to blame for two goals going in at the entire other end of the pitch.

  • 39 Fostino // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:34 PM

Selling Santon is more of a mystery. At least he could cover rb..considering he was mainly right footed. Carver you toolbag

  • 40 jazzyp // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:34 PM

We have signed 3 players hopefully of class to step straight into the first team, Which is a positive step.
But SM has stated a few times already that the US tour was a hindrance to his Pre season plans.
Nothing of note has changed since last season’s debacle so why expect the beginning of the season to be any different ??
A new manager with fresh ideas. A new backroom staff to implement there philosophy upon the playing staff is all good, But we must except this is going to take time .
The club has been ran in such a derogatory manner for many years that change will not happen straight away.As much as I would welcome this, It was clear sat in the stand last sunday the same frailties are there to haunt us and will continue to do so until addressed

  • 41 Bambams // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:35 PM

    Last season we were shocking.

(Carver needs to stay out of tv studios, embarrassing listening to him.)

We have played two games….It will take twelve games before we have any idea what our team will be like.

Not time to panic yet fellas.

We know what we need and I am sure Mac does. Still think it will be Van Dijk once Celtic know if they are in next round CL

  • 42 Marty-Toon // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:35 PM

    I didn’t say I missed him.
I know he had 4 years mate ,I said he inherited a quick/makings of a good team in palace.
He didn’t creat the team there,he stumbled upon it.
He’s added some decent players since though.
He also had a half decent team at our place for a while but players kept gettin sold.
We all see that we need bigger stronger and quicker players in several positions,so now it’s up to Charnley and Carr

  • 43 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:35 PM

Sorting out the defence is obvious. That will plug the hole in the dyke, temporarily. However if we think we will have an engine with Sissoko, Colback, Obertan, Tiote and Cabella that will propel us up to the top half of the table, it’s possible we could end up being a little let down.

  • 44 Bambams // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:35 PM

    Spot on fella.

  • 45 hibbit // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:36 PM

ian and what if we don’t…….. nothing written in stone with this lot

  • 46 9 // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:38 PM

You’ve over counted by one: we have signed two first-team players and, on current showing, one idiot.

  • 47 Marty-Toon // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:39 PM

Why is everyone wanting to put Mbemba in at RB?
He’s been brought in at CB and doesn’t look comfortable at RB ,that’s where he’s good and maybe Anita or Sayls should go in at RB.

  • 48 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:40 PM

I posted an excerpt of Sammy Ameobi’s comments from NUFC.COM earlier, in which he basically rats out on our clubs pathetic fitness regime. Or rather lack of it. We’ve heard nothing from SM about it bar the comments about the US tour being a nuisance – is this actually what he meant? How come we are the only team making big excuses about not being ready or fit for the start of a mulit-billion pound Premier League schedule?

  • 49 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:41 PM

At least someone agreed with me thank you.

I agree with you the defence does need upgrading

  • 50 Ian Toon // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:42 PM

Tsunki- Maybe but it fleetingly halted you from descending still further into your morose state, mate.
The arse are due next at SJP. I thought Palace were well organised defensively.
As above given our abject away form going into this season it’s going to take time for anything to change. We need to sort out the defence- first and foremost.

  • 51 jazzyp // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:42 PM

We all on here, at the matches can see the problems that continue to hold Nufc Back. So I would say by now 100% SM and his staff have pointed this out to the powers that be.
we have a couple of weeks mate to see if the playing staff will be added to. Which will be a good indicator of where the apparent new regime we are under are going.

  • 52 Marty-Toon // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:43 PM

Agree with you there, our midfield apart from Sissoko hasn’t enough power and speed in it and he doesn’t fit as a holding midfielder

  • 53 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:43 PM

The only club in the history of world football that rearranges the crowd in order to keep it quiet. You couldn’t make it up.

  • 54 Tsunki // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:44 PM

Jazzyp – agree with the sentiments about such things taking time but there is a little snag in that the Premier League has it’s own timetable and will be sticking with it. I don’t expect there to be any leeway given to us as we shout ‘ wait for me!’. Poor Steve hasn’t got the luxury of time and he knows it. Three Windows or not, if the improvements don’t come quick enough we will likely find ourselves aspiring to be Norwich, Bournemouth or watford.

  • 55 Jib // Aug 16, 2015 at 3:50 PM

    My research reveals

There has been 2 written questions relating to Wonga

    No.202726 -26June2014

    No.203476 -1July 2014

    and one Early Day Motion

Could you please tell me the Act of Parliament

that restrained the shady practices of Wonga ?

Also in which court of law did Keegan’s claim against NUFC take place ?

    thanking you in anticipation.

    your friend Jib

  • 56 davis_toons // Aug 16, 2015 at 4:03 PM

Colback is just another Jonas that should be at the bench if we are a proper team like Swansea.

(please do think that Colback is a decent player and im glad we have got him but..)

Guess what it was Ki Sung-yueng that was injured that give Jack Cork a chance.

This Cork chap can easily be in our first 11.
