Siem de Jong had a problem with his shin before the game, and wasn’t on the subs bench on Saturday because of it – and in fact he didn’t even travel with the squad.
Moussa Sissoko didn’t come out in the second half at Swansea, after he seemed to get a groin injury just before half time.
And of course Daryl Janmaat was sent off just before half time, and will miss the game at Old Trafford on Saturday, after having a poor game against the best player on the field at the Liberty Stadium – Jefferson Montero.
Moussa Sissoko in action at Swansea
Moussa Sissoko is 26 today, and he put this out on his Twitter account about his injury – and it looks like he was taken off as a precaution.
Little pain on the adductor during the game. At rest until Monday. Thank you for your messages friends! #NUFC

We should hear more of the injury tomorrow, but the very most he will miss will be the next two games, because after we play Manchester United away and Arsenal at home, we have the two week International break.
After the International break our next game is at Upton Park on Monday, 14th September, and that’s four weeks tomorrow – so hopefully Moussa can make that game.
If Moussa does not play in our next two games he will certainly not be joining the French squad during the International break.
Steve McClaren does not now yet how serious the groin injury is – as he said this after the game:
“We lost a big player in Moussa. We don’t know the seriousness of it yet.”
“For Siem we think it is just a kick on the shin which flared up. He nearly made it in time, but unfortunately didn’t but it should not be too bad.”
That sounds positive news on Siem de Jong, and if Moussa doesn’t make the game on Saturday at Old Trafford, maybe Siem de Jong could start that game – possibly playing in the number 10 role with Gini Wijnaldum playing in Moussa’s place?
We do have players on the bench who are good – but with Janmaat missing it could be that Chancel Mbemba plays at right back and Steven Taylor comes in at center-back – or maybe Vurnon Anita playing at right back would be the better choice?
But it does show we don’t have a specialized right-back to deputize for Daryl.
One final question on injuries – guess which club is at the top of the Premier League Injury League with 7 injuries?

What do you think?

Comment #7If you’re using pundit as a verb then it is in fact ‘punditing’ – so you’re both wrong. Not that it matters. Like, at all. Janmaat cost us the game this weekend. Pure and simple. I like the guy; he is probably our best defender, but he was a dumbass this weekend against Montero who is going in my fantasy team asap . Hoping for better next. I would keep Mbemba and Colo at CB and play Anita RB but just IMHO.

Comment #8Mitrovic announced himself that he would ‘kick defenders back’. Firstly, that is not what a tough attacker does as he will just make himself a target. Secondly, it is the Serb who is doing most of the kicking. Macca needs to nip this in the bud now, not defending him with ‘assassin’s eyes’ and ‘bit of the devil’ nonsense. Show some professionalism and discipline. So far it is yellow cards 2, shots on goal 0 from our no.45.

Comment #9We need a squad bigger than most to combat all our injuries
