Here’s video we found of the two goals Newcastle conceded yesterday, none of them very good from our perspective and one is another cross into the box that we couldn’t defend.
The defense still needs one or even two new players brought in before September 1st – we still need another center-back brought in.
Bafe Gomis – after scoring after just 9 minutes

Comment #3Our defending was appalling yesterday. We cannot stop crosses into the box and we cannot defend crosses into the is. Janmatt’s sending off was harsh and Monk’s comments were out of order. He should be reprimanded for them.

If I remember correctly, the summer we were supposedly offering 7/8M for him was the summer we didn’t make a single permanent signing, the same summer JfK was hired NOT to make any signings. There was never any intention of buying him in the last year of his contract but went through the motions to keep fans onside . It just didn’t occur to them (again) that a guy prepared to run down his contract might take a better deal elsewhere.

You say it was harsh but the commentators were saying it was inevitable.

“Quite what the defender was thinking, having already been booked when he tugged back Jefferson Montero only he knows but in the absence of John Carver, we don’t mind saying that he looked determined to get himself sent off.”

That’s my conclusion.
Janmaat wasn’t even in our half. He was nearer to their penalty box than ours.

Comment #10I think everyone watching the match could see Janmaat. Was having a bad day after the 1st goal and yellow card.
Macca came down to the bench just before the 2nd booking it looked like he was trying to get help via Anita/Sissoko for Janmaat at rb.
Well I think Felliani still has another game ban so can’t play on Saturday so we shouldn’t have much of a Ariel threat against us so that will be a positive.

Comment #11JFA; I’m not bothered what the commentaters say, I’ll make my own judgement based on what I saw. There were plenty challenges and free kicks given that went unpunished, for example Ayew’s challenge just before half time. The ref appeared eager to book Newcastle players For minor offences yet Swansea players were seemingly let off. I’m not blaming the ref for our loss but the inconsistencies were there throughout the game. He is a poor ref and had a poor game in my opinion. If one looks at incidents from the game in isolation they may appear justified but if taken in context of the whole game, they were not.

Comment #12Novo – as an isolated incident it would have been harsh BUT Janmaat was persistently fouling the guy!
However very disappointing but a bit early to start panicking yet!

Comment #20You can point fingers in many different directions – the ref, individual players and incidents etc, but the bottom line is that this was the sort of performance that we saw under Pardew and Carver. Undisciplined, unadventurous, uninspiring. The sending off really only made for an excuse. The result would have been the same. I said before the game I expected to lose, but would have been happy with a decent effort. That didn’t eventuate. Basically this group is showing the same failings as we have seen in previous seasons. Early days admittedly, but this season is looking like it’s going to be a race to the bottom for the mighty clubs of the North-East. And I have to say I’m currently giving the wally with the brolly about 3/10 for his overall performance thus far. Players not fit, team selection questionable, tactics and game-plan uninspiring.
