I Begin An Adventure At Newcastle – A Club With Great History

9:37 am, Thursday, August 20th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 7 Comments

New signing Florian Thauvin gave his first interview on nufcTV yesterday and he spoke entirely in French, so it looks like he will have to take a crash course in English.

Of course with players like Moussa Sissoko and Papiss Cisse in the squad, there will be translators for him in the dressing room.

The 22 year-old said Moussa had already been a great help to him and gave him a warm welcome yesterday and will help him settle quickly on Tyneside.

Florian Thauvin – at Benton yesterday

That obviously means Moussa is going nowhere this summer – doesn’t it?

Florian did a nice thing yesterday be penning an open letter principally to Marseille fans thanking them for their support of him over the last two years.

Certainly he came across in the nufcTV interview as being quite a humble person, and h said he preferred to play in the middle of the park but can also play on the wing.

He was compared with former Newcastle winger Chris Waddle and with Chris having played at Marseille from 1889 through 1992 he is well known in France.

Florian knew all about him and said he was a great player and it was an honor to be compared with Chris.

This is the bit at the end of his open letter that was directed to Geordie fans:

“Today, I begin a new adventure with Newcastle, an emblematic Premier League club that already has a great history.”

“I am anxious to discover the passion of the English fans and the exceptional atmosphere at St James’ Park.”

“I hope that together we will have wonderful seasons and experience many victories.”

“I am proud to wear the number 20 shirt for Newcastle, I am anxious to experience English football.

Florian certainly is happy to be at Newcastle,  and he knew all about Newcastle trying to sign him over the last few years – and it seems that Newcastle continue to be a high profile club revered in France.

Comments welcome.

How would people feel if the deal was actually a swap of Abdennour for Sissoko??

I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens to be honest.

No wonder Chris Waddle is well known in france, if he played for Marsielle for OVER 100 YEARS!! (1889-1992). Epic typo, Ed 😀
