Steve McClaren has just announced the Newcastle team to play Manchester United at Old Trafford today – a game that has a 12:45 pm early kick-off – and the game has come a bit early for Moussa Sissoko who misses out.
But both Mitrovic and Perez start this game with Papiss Cisse dropping down to the bench.
Teams:
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): Sergio Romero; Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw; Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin; Adnan Januzaj, Juan Mata, Memphis Depay; Wayne Rooney (c)
Substitutes: Sam Johnstone, Paddy McNair, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez
Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Chancel Mbemba, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Ayoze Perez, Georginio Wijnaldum, Gabriel Obertan; Aleksandar Mitrovic
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Mike Williamson, Cheick Tiote, Siem de Jong, Rolando Aarons, Florian Thauvin, Papiss Cisse
New signing Florian Thauvin is one the bench and it’s good to see both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez start this game for Newcastle – and Siem de Jong is back on the bench after missing last week’s game at Swansea.
Chancel Mbemba moves to right back and Steven Taylor comes into the middle – as expected – with Daryl Janmaat missing this game through suspension.
The two wingers will be Gabby Obertan and Ayoze Perez with Mitrovic up front – what a game to make your starting debut in for the Serbian International – let’s hope he doesn’t go daft and pick up a yellow card again.
This is what head coach Steve McClaren has said about this game:
“It’s fantastic, many people would think it’s not a good fixture for us with our new look squad but it’s going to be a good chance for us really up our performance,”
“We took a step back last week after a promising start against Southampton but now it’s about moving forward in terms of our performance, attitude and the football we play.”
“Hopefully then we can become a side that teams will start to dread playing.”
“They’ve won every game,” “I don’t think there’s a team in the Premier League at the moment, bar maybe Manchester City, who will be more satisfied with the way they’ve started and the football they are playing.”
“There is a lot of talk of them not doing this or not doing that and I know from my days there that there always will be that pressure and expectation to play free-flowing, attacking football.”
“However, the important thing for them is that they are winning efficiently and winning well, which they’ve shown over the past few games.”
“The players we’ve brought in are winners and they will be wanting to start winning games as soon as possible, starting at Old Trafford.”
It’s a tough game today but an interesting choice of team from Steve McClaren.
Three fans in five think we will lose this game.

Comment #10Obertan’s got to stand up for this one. Concerned about his nervy character, in front of Old Trafford crowd. We can’t afford for him to hide in this game.

Comment #15Jesus, Obertan again, no doubt Aarons will get a run out when we are 3-0 down, Thauvin might come on at 4-0.

Comment #20Mitrovic definitely has the capability to bully Blind and Smalling. A weak central pair.
Their front 4 looks fearsome though and my faith in our defence is at an all-time low.

Comment #22Glad Mitrovich is starting – should see some sparks today.
How the hell Obertron gets a start I don’t know – useless footballer. I ‘m sure we’ll see some excellent defensive duties from him (Not).
hope it’s a fairy tale ending but I suspect not – I think we’ll get whooped.

Comment #25I think he will be playing Perez on the left, tough game v darmian who has looked very good for man utd. I wonder why he has yet to start aarons considering his link up play with haidara being quite good.

Comment #26Really pleased with that… apart from obertan…id of started aarons… but think both aarons and thauvin will come in at some point….. can see perez more than filling sissoko’s boots….and mitro will be buzzing… i think this is the game to throw him in and settle the lad… both wide players rly need to get the service in up top for the big lad…. should cause manure a few problems !!

Comment #28Obertan the new Gouffran…..defensive choice ahead of Aarons or Thauvin.
Other than that I would have picked the same team, good to see Perez in there.
Cant see why we didnt go with Aarons stating with Thauvin the option to come on in 2nd half but lets see how it goes..

Comment #29Obertan is starting because he was one of our best players in the opener, provided a stunning assist and because he was our only player to show any attacking intent in the 1st half last weekend, again was one of our better players.

Comment #30Mitrovich is going to in one direction – goal bound -confronting defenders really interesting to see how this pans out -would love him to score.
Keeping a close eye on Colo today to see if he repeats his errors.

Comment #35obertan is only starting because he is in the shop window,
once this squad starts clicking WE all know he has nothing on Rolando Sissoko Lorian or perez come to that.
