Steve McClaren has just announced the Newcastle team to play Manchester United at Old Trafford today – a game that has a 12:45 pm early kick-off – and the game has come a bit early for Moussa Sissoko who misses out.
But both Mitrovic and Perez start this game with Papiss Cisse dropping down to the bench.
Teams:
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): Sergio Romero; Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw; Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin; Adnan Januzaj, Juan Mata, Memphis Depay; Wayne Rooney (c)
Substitutes: Sam Johnstone, Paddy McNair, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez
Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Chancel Mbemba, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Ayoze Perez, Georginio Wijnaldum, Gabriel Obertan; Aleksandar Mitrovic
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Mike Williamson, Cheick Tiote, Siem de Jong, Rolando Aarons, Florian Thauvin, Papiss Cisse
New signing Florian Thauvin is one the bench and it’s good to see both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez start this game for Newcastle – and Siem de Jong is back on the bench after missing last week’s game at Swansea.
Chancel Mbemba moves to right back and Steven Taylor comes into the middle – as expected – with Daryl Janmaat missing this game through suspension.
The two wingers will be Gabby Obertan and Ayoze Perez with Mitrovic up front – what a game to make your starting debut in for the Serbian International – let’s hope he doesn’t go daft and pick up a yellow card again.
This is what head coach Steve McClaren has said about this game:
“It’s fantastic, many people would think it’s not a good fixture for us with our new look squad but it’s going to be a good chance for us really up our performance,”
“We took a step back last week after a promising start against Southampton but now it’s about moving forward in terms of our performance, attitude and the football we play.”
“Hopefully then we can become a side that teams will start to dread playing.”
“They’ve won every game,” “I don’t think there’s a team in the Premier League at the moment, bar maybe Manchester City, who will be more satisfied with the way they’ve started and the football they are playing.”
“There is a lot of talk of them not doing this or not doing that and I know from my days there that there always will be that pressure and expectation to play free-flowing, attacking football.”
“However, the important thing for them is that they are winning efficiently and winning well, which they’ve shown over the past few games.”
“The players we’ve brought in are winners and they will be wanting to start winning games as soon as possible, starting at Old Trafford.”
It’s a tough game today but an interesting choice of team from Steve McClaren.
Three fans in five think we will lose this game.

Comment #521Great news. Didnt see game as done have BT. Surprised Thauvin was caugt ( believing Noel Worts here ) but he may not be fit and didnt want a hamstring or something. I have always had time for Taylor so pleased to see him do well. It now means that Mbemba can deputise at right back when needed. Colo and Mbemba’s lack of inched will still be an isuse though. Still , who cares. Well done Steve Mac.

This bloke is the definition of clueless.
Tell you what
Southampton h
Swansea a (half game with 10 men)
Man Utd a
I didn’t expect 1 point, nevermind 2. Does not take a genius to say we would struggle with our opening 5 games.
You dare go beyond when you look at games beyond that.
Even next week against Arsenal is a loss for me.
Colo was solid today. And is not as bad as most of the clueless people on here make out. Nor is Taylor but he is just injury prone and at times his passion makes him do stupid things.

Comment #524If Collo and Taylor can keep up form like that’s were in for a good season. Mbemba was solid at holding off Depay. Central midfield was terrible, completely out classed. Mitrovic to score against Arsenal.

Comment #526As I said, it was a classic Colo performance, backed up by his defensive teammates and the midfield once they warmed to the task, however Man Utds lack of strength and aerial threat cannot be ignored when looking at why it was such a good display. Fellaini would’ve been a real problem if he was available

no he wasnt he made at least two massive gaffes in the second half
Saylor was immense
With Colo in the team we will not win a single match
I already bet £100 with JFA we will win 0 in 5 with colo in the starting line up
3 games down 2 to go

Comment #532why are people surprised Thauvin got caught up by Shaw ? He’s not a blistering pace winger. Obertan is much faster then him. Thauvin has that control though.
I was 50-50 on Thauvin today, I thought he could have done better in certain situations. But it was the first 20 mins in a new league.

Comment #535Colo was immense today. Krul was brill and Taylor did really well. So many played well and as a team it was great to see. Colback had a few shakey back passes and Cisse’s first touch let him down on the counter but I am happy to take the point.
No point looking at ‘what ifs’. Onwards and upwards if we can keep the same tempo and dedication.

Comment #538I think perfect moment to potentially get a STRONG attacking CM like Sissoko if he leaves, I think we missed him today.
We really did the enforcer, its exactly the type of player we need and need to keep.
My line up next game.
Mbemba——- Taylor ——-Colo——-new LB
Thauvin———Coleback—-Sissoko——-Aaroons
——————-Perez—–Mitro——————–

Comment #542Noel – shaw is rapid by far one of the fastest in prem. A winger only needs good acceleration to beat players not top sprint speed anyway.

Comment #543@Noel – not sure Fellaini wouldve done that much damage as the Mancs had no width at all. Not sure why VanGaal doesnt play Young or buy more wingers as they are narrow and allowed us to defend as everyone knows we are susceptible to the high cross yet we saw little of that today.
Having said that Mbemba did win a few hopefull balls outside the box that gave us hope for when he is back alongside Colo

Krul. ..good but kicking needs work
Mbemba..struggled at first but settled and put in great tackles and blocks
Haidara…much improved from 1st two games pressed and got forward needs a bit crossing practice
Colo…said he needed to up his game and be more commanding…and he step up and done it
Taylor…solid enough but still made nervous
Colback….grafted hard but had some shaky moments and his passing was not the best
Anita….grafted but seemed to disapear a bit in second half
Perez….grafted like a man who wants 1st team football…and if he keeps playing like that should do….one thing do a bit work with his left foot so can cross more
Obertan….grafted his pace gave us an out but his confidence closed that out (if you know what I mean)
Gini….looked a class act in 1st half strong quick and clever….just had to graft in 2nd half
Mitro…grafted hard and showed some moments of lookin like a ryt handful without lookin like he’d get sent off..when his match sharpness is there its lookin good business…unlucky with a crackin header
Cisse…wasn’t on long but his touch let him down when running thru needs ti work hard in that
Thauvin…not long on but showed willingness to graft and a couple of nice touches….unlucky his big toe wasn’t a bit bigger!lol
Ref was weak… man utd players were diving all over and clattering us and bottled the bookings….great point overall….well done lads
