Steve McClaren has just announced the Newcastle team to play Manchester United at Old Trafford today – a game that has a 12:45 pm early kick-off – and the game has come a bit early for Moussa Sissoko who misses out.
But both Mitrovic and Perez start this game with Papiss Cisse dropping down to the bench.
Teams:
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): Sergio Romero; Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw; Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin; Adnan Januzaj, Juan Mata, Memphis Depay; Wayne Rooney (c)
Substitutes: Sam Johnstone, Paddy McNair, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez
Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Chancel Mbemba, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Ayoze Perez, Georginio Wijnaldum, Gabriel Obertan; Aleksandar Mitrovic
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Mike Williamson, Cheick Tiote, Siem de Jong, Rolando Aarons, Florian Thauvin, Papiss Cisse
New signing Florian Thauvin is one the bench and it’s good to see both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez start this game for Newcastle – and Siem de Jong is back on the bench after missing last week’s game at Swansea.
Chancel Mbemba moves to right back and Steven Taylor comes into the middle – as expected – with Daryl Janmaat missing this game through suspension.
The two wingers will be Gabby Obertan and Ayoze Perez with Mitrovic up front – what a game to make your starting debut in for the Serbian International – let’s hope he doesn’t go daft and pick up a yellow card again.
This is what head coach Steve McClaren has said about this game:
“It’s fantastic, many people would think it’s not a good fixture for us with our new look squad but it’s going to be a good chance for us really up our performance,”
“We took a step back last week after a promising start against Southampton but now it’s about moving forward in terms of our performance, attitude and the football we play.”
“Hopefully then we can become a side that teams will start to dread playing.”
“They’ve won every game,” “I don’t think there’s a team in the Premier League at the moment, bar maybe Manchester City, who will be more satisfied with the way they’ve started and the football they are playing.”
“There is a lot of talk of them not doing this or not doing that and I know from my days there that there always will be that pressure and expectation to play free-flowing, attacking football.”
“However, the important thing for them is that they are winning efficiently and winning well, which they’ve shown over the past few games.”
“The players we’ve brought in are winners and they will be wanting to start winning games as soon as possible, starting at Old Trafford.”
It’s a tough game today but an interesting choice of team from Steve McClaren.
Three fans in five think we will lose this game.

Comment #41Nice balanced build up to the game on BT sport. Couldn’t be more one sided if the presenter had two left arms and two left legs.

Comment #43Amyone else thinking a mbemba and perez partnership down the right might be a bit of a surprise for man u ? Mbemba has more pace than janmaat and is very direct!

Comment #44Obertan not in the window. Been one of our better players so far. Expect Thauvin to take that position in the next week or two, same way Mitro has.

Comment #45Few alternatives on the bench -if things start to look bad -as has previusly been said Thauvin should be getting on at some time.

Comment #51overran is playing because Aaron’s isn’t consistent enough and not ready to start 90 mins.
Thauvin will take Obertans place when he’s up to speed
Obertans not playing because he’s in shop window – if that were the case Cisse, Gouff, Willo would all be starting every game
worried about Haidara – he’s been poor in first couple of games and the Taylor/Collo CB pairing shows we still need a decent CB

Comment #52Just saw that marseille are in advanced talks to sign arkadiusz milik. We should be on this, quality young striker and should be too costly. Can’t believe that they’re actually in talks and his Ajax switch was just made permanent this summer.

Comment #57I am surprised at the selection of Perez. I don’t see how he fits into a 3 man midfield behind Mitrovic playing on the opposite side of Obertan.
Obertan will be bombing forward trying to use his pace and get a few crosses in, whilst Perez will be trying to keep the ball on the deck and link up play on the other side… it all seems very asymmetrical and disjointed to me…. who knows, maybe that could work by confusing the Man Utd back line.

Comment #71Those who think that Wijnaldum will play the box to box midfield. They are battling it out with De Jong for the No. 10 position.
Holding Midfield is btn Anita, Colback and Tiote.

not really
williamson has nothing to offer, 6ft4 but can not head a ball,
obertan has pace, that can be a huge asset , he just has stop being so lazy and track back, a team will pay a few mill for that.
Harris, i would keep, i think he is a good player, but we do have a strong MF, but obertan has the fact that he played for Man u on his side
