Steve McClaren has just announced the Newcastle team to play Manchester United at Old Trafford today – a game that has a 12:45 pm early kick-off – and the game has come a bit early for Moussa Sissoko who misses out.
But both Mitrovic and Perez start this game with Papiss Cisse dropping down to the bench.
Teams:
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): Sergio Romero; Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw; Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin; Adnan Januzaj, Juan Mata, Memphis Depay; Wayne Rooney (c)
Substitutes: Sam Johnstone, Paddy McNair, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez
Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Chancel Mbemba, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Ayoze Perez, Georginio Wijnaldum, Gabriel Obertan; Aleksandar Mitrovic
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Mike Williamson, Cheick Tiote, Siem de Jong, Rolando Aarons, Florian Thauvin, Papiss Cisse
New signing Florian Thauvin is one the bench and it’s good to see both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez start this game for Newcastle – and Siem de Jong is back on the bench after missing last week’s game at Swansea.
Chancel Mbemba moves to right back and Steven Taylor comes into the middle – as expected – with Daryl Janmaat missing this game through suspension.
The two wingers will be Gabby Obertan and Ayoze Perez with Mitrovic up front – what a game to make your starting debut in for the Serbian International – let’s hope he doesn’t go daft and pick up a yellow card again.
This is what head coach Steve McClaren has said about this game:
“It’s fantastic, many people would think it’s not a good fixture for us with our new look squad but it’s going to be a good chance for us really up our performance,”
“We took a step back last week after a promising start against Southampton but now it’s about moving forward in terms of our performance, attitude and the football we play.”
“Hopefully then we can become a side that teams will start to dread playing.”
“They’ve won every game,” “I don’t think there’s a team in the Premier League at the moment, bar maybe Manchester City, who will be more satisfied with the way they’ve started and the football they are playing.”
“There is a lot of talk of them not doing this or not doing that and I know from my days there that there always will be that pressure and expectation to play free-flowing, attacking football.”
“However, the important thing for them is that they are winning efficiently and winning well, which they’ve shown over the past few games.”
“The players we’ve brought in are winners and they will be wanting to start winning games as soon as possible, starting at Old Trafford.”
It’s a tough game today but an interesting choice of team from Steve McClaren.
Three fans in five think we will lose this game.

Comment #82not sure about Perez’s crossing ability so if we are relying on him and Obertron to put balls in for Mitro – he will be having a quiet day

Comment #83Perez doesnt offer too much on the wong. The idea of getting a big lad like mitro is to use wingers who can cross. Dont see that from Perez and certainly dont see that from Obertan if he’s on the left. I predict an isolated and frustrated Mitro nutting Chris Smalling. Drop a tenner on it.

Comment #85Whilst it’s not expected to win at Man U, surprises can happen, still I think I will go for a draw here.

Comment #89also why do we move our best centre back out to right back and put Saylor in. Centre back is a much more important position, should have put Saylor at full back

We’re in for a long ride.
That Rooney goal should’ve stood.
Difficult to tell if he would’ve score though as krul had stopped playing.
Not enjoying this hoof to Obertan tactic.

“It’s all Manchester United. I know we’ve only been playing a few minutes but they’ve not had the ball once, Newcastle. It looks like they’re set up to defend and contain, but it’s not working.”

I’m not his biggest fan, but we need a physical presence to break things up, so Tiote should come on, possibly for Colback.
