There Was Only One Man Of The Match Yesterday

Fabricio Coloccini showed yesterday that he can still be a top center-back in the Premier League, and he used all his vast experience, skill and guile to keep out Manchester United as the Argentine International played a fabulous game at the back for Newcastle – a real captain’s game by a player who leads by example

tim krul and fab coloccini at end of game

This is what it meant to Coloccini at the end of the game

He was the best player on the field at Old Trafford, and he was helped by some other excellent performances from other Newcastle players, such as Tim Krul, Steven Taylor, Chancel Mbemba and Aleksandar Mitrovic to name only four.

One thing to remember was that it was a great Newcastle performance and we didn’t have players like Moussa Sissoko, Siem de Jong or Rolando Aarons playing yesterday,

So we are starting to have some strength in depth, and competition for places, which is what we need to be successful this season.

Colo won the Man of the Match rather easily with 47% of the total vote, followed by Tim Krul who gave a good display of  goalkeeping in front of his former Dutch National manager.

Tim could even get a start for Holland in their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers under new head coach Danny Blind.

Here are the poll results, and there’s still time to vote if you haven’t already done so.

Most team will play a big striker against us ,we were lucky yesterday to be up against a team not that good up front
We’ve been played off the park 2 games running ,the squad still needs strengthening
Obertan first choice wtf is that about!

MOM doesnt take into account what tactics the teams used, it is just who was the best player in that match.

Colo is a fair choice so dont see the need of your point, am sure in other games he wont get MOM but we are very quick to slate him for his bad games, you should at least praise him where deserved as well.

And of course Colo will struggle in the air when we come up against a Pelle/Lukaku etc – they are 4 inches taller and much stronger, the re is only so much you can do – thats why Saylor needs to play these games and Mbemba RB is a good call too.

Id keep the same starting 11 vs Arsenal with only Aarons or Thauvin in for Obertan – think Janmaat should get benched for his stupidity and poor start to the season – hopefully it will shake him into life.

Dennis! You’ll probably get a good few chances to do that pre match rally on yesterday’s showing

I thought Colo played well but my MoM was Mbemba. Only the third game in a slipshod back four and out of position, but against manure ( ok they are a shadow of their former glory) showed some real presence and got about his job with enthusiasm and style.

So we have played 3 games so far, 3 tough fixtures, played well in the 2 of them, and yet people are still moaning.

    Unbelievable.

Gaz44 mitrovic and Perez for me get highly honourable mentions, Perez again for adapting to a role and mucking in with excellent break up play. Mitrovic at his age astounding to be such a force up front and took much of the impetus out of the manure back line coming forward. An inch away from a famous goal.

Not all of what mickalfas said can be glossed over though. Can’t let yesterday’s result fool us into complacency. This is not a finished product. It still needs sanding down and a good coat of paint 🙂

Ctg- Taylor has been reduced to being dismissed as a lower league buffoon while out. The criticism descended into the unrealistic. He’s still a very good cb on his day, miles better than willo, who I hope never sets foot on a pitch for us again. No offence, mike, but so long, and thanks for all the twirling and skyward punts.

Wasn’t a lot between the back 4 to be honest. In fact the bits i have seen, MOST of the team had an excellent, backs to the wall performance. We wont be the only team to park the bus at old trafford this season, and as yet the team was not ready to play it any other way. Colo gets MoM from me because we have been screaming for a captains performance from him, and we got that, and more, yesterday.

Wasn’t slating Collo, imo the defence should have been improved during the window ,a big powerful CB
I’m just not that impressed with us being played off the park ,great result that it was
We still can’t defend crosses imo, that still needs addressing

Wijnaldum btw looked a class above anyone in manures midfield though. He was probably the difference between halves as manure came forward more readily when he went off.

We defended as a team yesterday when was the last time we done that its a huge positive from the game and will give the lads a big boost for the next game, new lads have totally changed us and mitro is going to cause proplems for defenders just need pace next to him.

Still cant believe people are whinging about the game you need to take your expectations down a few notches and join the real world.

Can’t really argue with Colo as MOM, but I did give my vote to Perez. Surely he should start every game? That lad is a real proper player. But fair play to Colo and Taylor who I have slagged off as much as anyone has. They showed real true grit. It’s bloody hard to go there to play for a point and then get it, despite what the miserable MU fans are saying.

While I agree Stayls can turn in a quality performance (yesterday), he also turns in some nightmares. He is occasionally, the chest thumping, fist pumping bufoon at times. If he could minimise that type of game, and play like he did yesterday more often, i probably wouldn’t cringe as much when his name appears on the team sheet.

Tbh I thought Man u would give us a good thumping and they did as far as possession went, but we worked hard as a defensive unit.
    We kept a clean sheet.
But don’t get over excited a team with more pace will turn us back into headless chickens.

There was an excellent illustration today at Old Trafford in the second half when Belgian International winger Adnan Januzaj went around Mbemba, but then he just flung himself to the floor looking for a foul – he should have been booked for that – why wasn’t he?

Don’t think we should be too harsh on him as he probably just slipped where Jonny Evans had been practising his spitting…

I thought it was protocol to wait until the game was finished before swopping shirts. Smalling was trying to remove the shirt of any NUFC player entering the Manure penalty area. Never even got spoken to let alone a yellow card. BLOODY MANURE

Overran is a shocking player. I’m quick and would be dangerous occasionally with my pace doesn’t make me a professional standard player. He can’t cross, run with the ball, defend, head, jump. One foot in front of the other is a remarkable achievement for the turf.

This talk of teams with lace will kill us, depay, Rooney, januzaj, shaw, darmian, mata aren’t exactly slow
