97% Of Fans Still Want Reinforcements In This Area

8:31 am, Monday, August 24th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 13 Comments

It was a terrific defensive performance by Newcastle on Saturday at Old Trafford to get a 0-0 draw,  and a good point, but we launched our poll yesterday after the game, and a massive majority of fans still want another defender brought in before the transfer window closes a week tomorrow.

97% of fans want another defender brough in over the next nine days and it seems out best chance of doing that is with Monaco center-back Aymen Abdennour who we are reported to be after.

But even if we do not bring in another player, Newcastle have still managed to bring in four top players this summer, and all will be starters in the team – so that’s some good business that has been negotiated this summer for around a cool £50M.

Really do we need more players, so cisse and williamson to replace by a forward that’s never played in the premier league and centre back that’s more injury prone than Taylor, just because that Monaco centre back is 6ft 3 or whatever he is tall that dosent mean he’s going to be better than Williamson, yes he’s strong and powerful, but then again so was boumsong, Oguchi Onyewu and mbwia.

welshgeordie9 . although theres no doubting Adbennours quality, only doubt is his injury record as you need your CB’s to be playing weekin weekout

Yes,simple as that. Yeah I don’t want another Marcelinho on my hands but what exactly is his injury history?

Abdenbour would be my first choice however I would take any credible centre back, a really big nasty thing because that is what we are missing. Coloccini can read the game but lacks pace and often gets bullied.

welshgeordie Abdennour is the real deal, a proper Champions League level cb.

Don’t get me wrong guys i would love it if he signed, but is he going to be any better, as far as signing centre backs goes in the last few years they have been bad.

I didn’t say i want to keep Williamson, I’m saying is he going to be better than Williamson.

Let me put this way, have we signed a quality centre back since we signed colo.

It’s like the cisse situation, Galatasaray wants him and apparently we might replace him with a wolves forward with no experience.

EDS POLL – Do Newcastle Need To Bring In Another Defender This Summer?

ANSWER = No, we need two!

  • 13 andrewsneill // Aug 24, 2015 at 10:21 AM

We need either a new DC or a new DR as Mbemba looks like he will be played there if Janmaat is unavailable thus robbing us of our only centre back addition this summer. Beyond that i feel i’d like additions, both on the wing and up front, but they’re not dire needs.

Hope to see Aarons getting more game time too
