McClaren – We Will Play Our Strongest Possible Team

When John Carver took over the team at the end of December, when it was obvious that Alan Pardew was going to sign for Crystal Palace, he said before the FA Cup 3rd round at Leicester City in early January, that he would play Newcastle’s strongest side possible.

John then fielded a very weak side and we lost 1-0, and his credibility with fans took a hit, and let’s just say things got a lot worse after that.

Daryl Janmaat – should start tonight

Steve McClaren says he will play a strong side tonight against Northampton Town, and we expect to see a number of our good subs starting tonight – players like Siem de Jong, Mike Williamson, Rolando Aarons and Papiss Cisse.

Daryl Janmaat should also get  a start, after being suspended for the game at Old Trafford on Saturday.

This is what Steve said yesterday about the game tonight:

“The cups can be a great boost for you,” “It’s another game and nobody in football wants to lose a football match.”

“We will put our strongest possible team out, taking into account what happened on Saturday, taking into account the game this weekend and taking into account that we have a very good squad.”

“Tuesday’s team will be strong enough and good enough to win the game. Our attitude has to be right, though.”

“Northampton are a good team.” “We’ve been watching them, and they are physical, strong, and put in lots of crosses.” “Any team on their day can beat anybody, no matter what division.”

“And if we are not right, or don’t do it right, Northampton are a team who can hurt us.” “They can play with freedom, relaxation, and every minute they get by and every tackle they win will be a boost to them. We must make sure we don’t give them that.”

“In the first round of the Capital One Cup, you have to make sure you do a professional job.”

The bottom line tonight is to win the game and that’s certainly what fans expect – given the poll we have put out for the game.

A win would be great tonight,  and then we can see f we can make it two wins in a row at home to Arsenal on Saturday in the early kick-off game.
