We have said recently that now we have Aleksandar Mitrovic on the books, and Ayoze Perez looks as good as ever, then as long as we keep Papiss Cisse at Newcastle we don’t really need to bring in another striker – and certainly don’t need to spend big money for one.
And there’s report in Le10 Sport that Newcastle may not bother with another bid for 22 year-old Bordeaux striker Diego Rolan, because he’s been priced too high at €20M – which is around £14.6M at today’s exchange rates.
Diego Rolan – Newcastle will not bother
It looks like the Uruguayan International could stay at Bordeaux past the summer of 2017 – which is when his current contract ends – since new contract negotiations are said to be ongoing with the youngster.
Other clubs who are cited with an interest in the striker include Stoke City , Aston Villa and Sevilla.
Newcastle are said to have bid around £11M for the striker earlier this month, but it was turned down, and it looks like Newcastle have decided not to pursue the 6 times capped Uruguayan.
Reports at that time said the valuations between the two clubs was not too far away – we suppose £11M against £14.6M and maybe an agreement could be reached, but it seems Newcastle have decided not to bother – well not in this transfer window anyway.
Rolan joined Bordeaux from Defensor Sporting two years ago, and while at Defensor he played 41 time with 11 goals and 4 assists.
In September last year Rolan made his debut for Uruguay in a friendly win against Japan in Sapporo, and his first International goal came in a 2–1 away victory over Chile last November.
In May of this year Rolan was included in Uruguay’s squad for the 2015 Copa America by coach Oscar Tabarez, and he has so far received 6 full caps and scored one goal for his country.
In 77 appearances for Bordeaux he has played 77 times with 18 goals and 9 assists, and last season he was in good form scoring 15 goals for his club.

Comment #2I still believe we need to sign a prolific goal score and moved Cisse on!
I don’t have faith in Cisse will deliver or even play that many games to be honest!

…we won’t sign a new CB then!…which I believe is of more importance!

Comment #4JIB, Ref your previous post. Anyone can have a good game. Unless he plays like that in the premier league week in week out then we have still overpaid for him. Colo had one good game against Man U. Like Thauvin he has also been crap for the last 2 seasons. I’d hazard a guess he will be back to being crap this weekend, Thauvin may be the same. He may turn into a world beater, i’d be amazingly chuffed if he does but nothing he has shown at a lower level in France over the last 2 seasons leads me to believe he will.

Comment #5At the end of the day we have signed 4 quality players and so far kept our key players, so now it’s pointless signing someone for the sake of it, we have got a squad that’s good enough until January for anymore signings, see our far this squad can go until then.

Comment #718Goals in 77 games ,whats that ,less than one goal every 4 games,he’s not what you would call a prolific goal scorer, where as Cisse may have lost a step or two,i still think we should keep him one more season.IMO.

Comment #10I’m not surprised Jeff spends quality time using his search prowess to trawl through posts to find faults to highlight. it’s his way of dragging himself out of the bilge he’s got himself into time and again – like a desperate drowning man dragging others under him so he can climb out. One word – pathetic. Even his half decent posts are the work of others. He just rephrases the opinions of others and passes them off as his own experience. He’s prolific, but ultimately, faecal.

Comment #11Lascelles needs another season out on loan to develop. But not in the championship, I think he could do with a season in the Eredevise or even Bundesliga. Strange how we always seem to loan out down a division rather than to a quality league. Could also be suggested as part of a deal involving Matip.

Regarding dummett at lb, might not be the best offensively but he’s ok defensively. I remember the game last season when we beat Liverpool, dummett had sterling in his pocket the whole game. Considering he had ‘0’ pace. I think he is someone who gets a lot of unfair criticism, he’s still young and learning so he’s not going to be the finished article.

Comment #24Dejong doesn’t look fit enough for the premier league. He looks so off pace and slow. He was poor against northampton too aside from his goal.
He needs to buckle down or play in reserve games till he gets fitness. Right now he shouldn’t even be on the bench.
I think we made a mistake in signing De jong unfortunately.

Comment #25People on here seem to think that when you’ve had long term injuries and make a return you should hit the ground running. Tiote and SDJ being prime examples, it’s going to take them at least 5 consecutive games to get them anywhere near decent. It’s not a case of recovering from injury or collapsed lung and then returning to top level again. These lads need game time, get behind closed doors arranged for both as well as u21 games.

Comment #26SDJ joined for 5m or 6m he’s a class act, he plays the game in his head and is always a few steps ahead of the opposition. Like all players though he’s still adjust to everyone’s game, he hardly kicked a ball last season. 2 or 3 years ago be was the one who did all the damage to citeh in the CL. Not through pace but through intelligence on the pitch and that’s something we don’t have.
Those who haven’t seen the best of him will do soon, I’d take him not having a great game but scoring every week, I’d say he’s a poor man’s Bergkamp but he’s still very very good…..If he can stay fit, and that’s a big if at the minute

Comment #30so for 14m to 15m we have 3 choices of new strikers: Austin, Afobe, and Rolan. I still prefer Austin even though he is oldest among 3.
I don’t think we should buy anymore this window, we should use U21 for emergency backup players, we have Sterry, Heardman, Laidler, Satka, Kemen, etc. rather than buying from championship clubs and foreign clubs. Unless we hit real bad luck losing 4 to 5 defenders at the same time for long term injuries. Besides we can always get new players in January.

Comment #31I still believe both a forward and CB is a priority…and I am not speaking of another Rivi or Lascelles!
…someone prolific and someone commanding. Yes they cost money that’s why we scout and why we plan ahead!
This kid clearly isn’t our first nor our second choice!

Yeah if its a choice out of those 3 then austin should definitely be the first choice. However my preference is still to spend whatever we have left on a centre back.

Comment #34I also really hope the gouffran rumours are true. I wanted to keep sissoko and flog off all the deadwood that can’t even make our bench anymore. Gouffran, WIlliamson, I would say Obertan but he seems to still be in Mcclarens plans, and Riverie is running out of chances and will struggle to get back in the team.

Comment #35I can only see a ST brought in if they manage to offload Riverie, but I fear we have another Xisco on our hands. That Gomis would have been a iseful player as both a starter and impact sub. But that’s easy to say in hindsight.

This clamour to get rid of Willo, if we don’t replace him, have you seen how many games he has played over the last four years. If we get rid of him without replacing him then we are seriously a man short.

Yeah you’re right but I keep saying how much we need a centre back still brought in then we can look to move him on.
We have also since acquired mbemba and lascelles, not sure about the latter yet but I know mbemba is our best centre back for sure. If we got someone with a bit of quality alongside him then I think we are so much stronger as a whole unit.

Comment #38The CEO of Monaco while announcing their purchase of Coentrao from Real Madrid alluded to the Abdennour situation.
It seems that Chelsea were after him if they couldn’t get Stones from Everton (plan B if you like) and Monaco plan to replace him with Anderlan Santos from Braga in Portugal.
If you ask me Santos looks a better fit for the Toon than Abdennour.
Brazilian, youngish (26) , 6’4″ , purchased to play for the Braga B’s for a couple of years but so good they couldn’t keep him out of the 1st team . Whether he could adjust to the much faster EPL who knows , but worth a look.

We have Good and Lascelles as up and coming CB’s ? So the only point in replacing Willo is with another quality first team player, just can’t see it after giving Collo that new deal. Hope I’m wrong though.

Comment #40De Jong needs to prove his fitness butit’ll be a real shame if he keeps picking up injuries.
2-3 years ago he looked like he could be a world beater.
Him and eriksen and Anita. together in ajax’s midfield were brilliant.
He’s just the sort of player we need in the hole.
1 cb in and some hard grafting in training on the midfielders defensive abilities and I think we’ll have a decent team.
