Newcastle’s New PreMatch Video – It’s Great

7:05 pm, Thursday, August 27th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 22 Comments

Here’s the new pre-match video from Newcastle for those who haven’t yet seen it – we like it a lot.

The quote from Sir Bobby is not in its entirety.

Here’s the quote – they missed out the underlined piece – maybe because of space constraints.

“What is a club in any case?”

“Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it.”

It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes.”

“It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.”

“It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”

Comments welcome.

Great video, or it was until some plank complained that the quote was incomplete and they took it down.

NUFC have pulled it from their own site!!!

They missed out all the bits about what a club wasn’t!!!

To be fair this is a miles better video then the one they currently have before a game.

This one I actually got goosebumps a bit, the other one barely did anything for is.

They’ve scrapped it? Shame however I remember one video that I loved the most that Ed put on here once before actually.

I’ll try find the link for those interested.

Yep, someone complained because they missed this bit out
“Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it.

It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes.”

No surprise they chopped that bit out when they are showing a video of the “building” made by the “marketing department” trying to sell “executive boxes”!

They probably didn’t agree with it after reading it for the first time !

  • 8 SUTTY1978 // Aug 27, 2015 at 7:24 PM

There’s always some turd who will complain about anything and ruin it for everyone else.
Now who complained about smoking in pubs, i’m coming for you…..

  • 9 Jail for Ashley // Aug 27, 2015 at 7:27 PM

They can’t help but shoot themselves in the foot, they missed out everything they think the club is, why do they do it !

  • 10 the broons // Aug 27, 2015 at 7:28 PM

hahaha aye they probably looked through it all and thought, hold on a minute thats a little counterproductive to us isn’t it.

Still though I liked it, and how they mixed the recent memories with old instead of just the new like on the other one which is just goals from last season.
Again to try and bury into our head that our performance was more than alright as we had 1 decent result against Liverpool.

They probably left out the underlined bit due to it not being fatty friendly ie the director’s or the people paid to represent it.

I’d be highly surprised if that wasn’t the case tbh.

It’s his club and it’s run how he wants it run.

    Fattys out.

jail……. it’s always the same with this lot 2 steps forward 3 steps back they never learn

To be fair to the marketing department they have absolutely stepped it up a level this season, lots of good video stuff like the 24/7 and this one, also the direct emails are a really good idea. Some will see this as a response to a lack of ST sales, some will see it as the club trying to be inclusive of the supporters. Maybe its a bit of both but they still deserve some credit for it. I would give my marketing department some praise if they could do anything half as good.

oops sorry, lost it. Dont know what happened there

  • 17 lesh // Aug 27, 2015 at 7:39 PM

Must say, I can’t understand why the brouhaha about the omissions from the original quote.

If anything, it gets the message across more efficiently without those two sentences – after all, it’s a clip that’s meant to enthuse fans, simply.

And, more importantly, the edited quote was still attributed to SBR – it’s not as though the Club’s claimed ownership of it.

  • 18 AndyMac // Aug 27, 2015 at 7:40 PM

The real bitch is, even though I’m an anti Ashleyite, video clips like those bring a real lump to the throat and THEY know it.

However if its designed to get fans in the “mood” before the game then surely its something the club can address by bringing in singing sections again ?

  • 19 mactoon // Aug 27, 2015 at 7:40 PM

    Try again!

  • 20 switch365 // Aug 27, 2015 at 7:42 PM

Is it physically possible for any Toon fan not to smile when they see the Phillipe Albert chip over Schmeichel and Martin Tyler’s immortal words …
“Here they are looking for number 5, with, Phillipe Albe…rt Oh! … Absolutely glorious!”

  • 21 lesh // Aug 27, 2015 at 7:47 PM

Aye, Albert’s goal was quite a peach.

And Mordues were quick off the mark in having ‘5-0’ on sale in the pubs!

    ‘ Some plank’? George Caulkin?
Sooty, stop embarrassing yourself. He’s only the bloke who wrote Sir Bobby’s autobiography with him. and one of the NE’s best sports journalists. As for the marketing execs and the proprietors of executive boxes, the lawyers, agents and even the players, if they don’t know the club is about more than themselves, they’ve no business being there. Its no more than a corny SD marketing video anyway and no, we don’t need a Sergio Leone theme tune every time a goal is scored, thanks very much.
