Poll: Newcastle Fans Hopeful Of Win Against Arsenal

10:15 pm, Friday, August 28th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 8 Comments

Newcastle do not have a good record against Arsenal and we have lost the last seven meetings, and we haven beaten Arsenal since November, 2010 when Chris Houghton was manager.

That was at the Emirates, when we took them apart 1-0,  with a headed goal from Andy Carroll just before the half time break.

And it’s ten years since we last beat Arsenal at St James’ Park – so we cannot say that we get 3 points against Arsenal too often can we?

So it’s unusual when over half of our fans think we can win this game tomorrow – but that’s what our poll is indicating,  with 51% thinking we can get the win tomorrow.

Only 18% think we will lose the game, so that’s 82% who think we can get something out of this game.

Let’s hope the fans are correct, but the lads must play well and defend well in those first twenty minutes or so, when Arsenal will be gunning for us.

I think that the attitude and communication that Steve has shown so far has brought a big breath of fresh air with it, and along with the signings things are finally looking up! I think Thauvin and Mitro are going to come into this game ready to go and against a makeshift Arsenal back 4 we stand a really good chance.

Shock 3-0 win for us tomorrow please! A mitro double and a wini to finish it off.

Arsenal are on another planet right now. I am hopeful that McClaren can get the side playing good football in the 2nd half of the season, but I am fearing the worst against Arsenal tomorrow.

It will be damage limitation against Arsenal, and there will be no shame in it. Arsenal have consistently been in the world’s top 10 club teams for years now. Our side isn’t even ready to take the training wheels off yet.

Getting a result would be a nice surprise, but it will not be the end of the world if we get a predictable spanking.

Our win is going to depend greatly on our defending ability .. Agreed with SM on that one
We’ve always seemed to struggle against those headers of Giroud, if our back 4 can deal with them I think we’ve got a decent chance

We will get a pasting and I expect to see all the usual suspects whineing and slagging off the defence, manager , Ashley ….

Our wonderful captain had his moment last week and normal service will be resumed tomorrow. He will be left on his arse on numerous occasions and he’ll be out jumped and out bullied all afternoon.

I would wager Colocinni will not be starting after a couple of months of inept performances show SM the scale of his misjudgement.

Dropped by the end of October would be my guess.

Not sure Arsenal are on another planet right now. In fact, if we win, we go above them. I’m not usually confident when it comes to Arsenal – they normally are on another planet – but without their usual central defensive partnership, we could spring a big surprise. If Thauvin can deliver some killer crosses, we’ve got the man who can capitalise and punish them. Arsenal appear to be expecting another win and that could suit us as well. If this side click – which will happen sooner rather than later imo – any team underestimating us will come unstuck. We should be starting with all the new lads and Janmaat back in the side, so whatever the result, it should prove interesting. We’re not the pushover we have been recently and at the very least, we’ll give Arsenal a bloody good game.

The poll is only in favour of a win because we managed to keep a clean sheet at man u, even though we only had 30% of possession and won against a lower league team, which was a bad job if we couldn’t.
Arsenal are a completely different team with quality and real pace. They’ll show us how football should be played. We’re in for a good hammering I’m afraid. But you never know with us sometimes we turn up and are very hard to beat.
