    Ashley Out!

  • 2 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:44 PM

Oh dear me and McClaren are in sync already…that should worry us all

  • 3 Slank // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:46 PM

    Me too.

Very dignified and accurate comments by McClaren.

  • 4 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:47 PM

I don’t get where the idea of having our players go charging into repeat fouls is coming from. I’m all for pressure of the ball but something about increased aggression ain’t translating well.

  • 5 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:47 PM

    Like I stated earlier.

If Mitrovic card was red, there is a whole host of dirty players through the years that should be in jail for taking out peoples careers.

A Keane comes to mind. So please. Keane would end people’s careers for tackles that were not given a yellow. The ref got on the bandwagon without thinking a single thing. What a twat.

People need to use their brain, and watch the replay the player that was on the ground in absolute agony stood up within 2 seconds.

I am sickened by the state of football. A meme puts it right 90 minutes of pretending to be injured vs Rugby 80 minutes of pretending you are NOT injured.

Carry on the way you did Sir Mitro.

The game was taken away from us before it really started. We do however need to learn to take possession as we don’t have any and I have no idea where that has come from. I think we had a better performance with Pardew.

We are very frustrated and it shows. The PM league is ripe with corrupt referees just like in the old manure 10 minutes extra time days and its vile.

  • 6 toon kk // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:47 PM

tbf alot of fans were crying out for a team that didn’t win but tried.
    Well that’s what we’ve got.

dont like to say this but Mitrovic,is going to be a liability sorry lads

  • 8 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:48 PM

Very especially after being affected by the crowd who felt very hard done by, media trained to the highest degree McClaren is

    Ashley Out!

    What a sperm stain !!!

  • 10 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:50 PM

If mitrovic carries on he will be banned half the season. He’s put roughly two full games worth of time in and got two yellows and a red. He should be checked for weapons.

  • 11 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:50 PM

I think half the fouls are not even fouls truth be told but challenging for balls.

Anita’s yellow was not a yellow sorry to disappoint. We are frustrated.
I do however see that Coleback and Anita are overrun in the middle of the park. Need a more assertive dominant CM.

  • 12 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:50 PM

Well we threw that one away didn’t we!

…have to say Arsenal’s left side is amazing (and our right side is…hmm bad)

  • 13 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:50 PM

And those 2 yellows could of been two reds in all fairness

  • 14 the broons // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:51 PM

    Just got back from game.

Just gutted, abseloutely gutted. Can’t believe how cheated I feel, the red card is a disgrace his heel is on the floor for christ sake. Get football done away with.

  • 15 Jib // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:51 PM

    Just do one you tossa

  • 16 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:52 PM

Classy Jeff. Sorry if you’re dad’s insulted by the joke but you’ll be seeing it again. And I’m really sorry if you’re still smarting from all the times you’ve been owned after trying to catch people out with you search engine skills. It must be galling.

  • 17 toon kk // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:53 PM

We’ll find this season harder than most think, every team has strengthened and has moved forward. We were so far behind and still are.

  • 18 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:53 PM

But jeff, here’s some reward – thanks. Thanks for reposting Ashley Out! :). Does that count as Doing One?

  • 19 Jib // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:53 PM

Go and live with your gay boyfriend in Denmark

  • 20 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:53 PM

    the broons

Noooo don’t say that, we have a whole host of armchair experts on how Mitrovic should be banned to never play again. They have never played football or seen a tackle in real life.

  • 21 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:55 PM

Aww. Jeff… so thoughtful! But I doubt if my boyfriend would be gay, would he?

  • 22 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:56 PM

anyhow, certain things to be taken after this game.

Think we need 3 more players h8 to say.

A CM a CB and a RB or LB. A CM of cabbie’s ability to distribute balls.
We don’t have that. We don’t process a player who can pass more than 5 meters and it shows ever since we lost Cabaye and he was not replaced.

Should have brought him back truth be told. I would even throw in another winger.

  • 23 joshswift // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:56 PM

Red or not the ref was shocking

  • 24 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:58 PM

Come on, Jeff my petal – explain to me why my boyfriend would be gay? I don’t get the joke.

  • 25 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:58 PM

Have the refs been given some sort of card based bonus initiative this week?

Stoke down to 9 men after 31 mins!!!!

  • 26 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:59 PM

Jeff are you doing searches now? To check my gender? How’s that going for you love?

  • 27 Jib // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:00 PM

I thought that was a great test of character for the lads

We were defo the better team than the gooners

Shit result —-shit referee —-and Tsunki shows what a shit fan he is

  • 28 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:00 PM

83 persistent fouling hey have a look at the rules Ffs it’s a yellow stopping a player from attacking all day long same as clipping heels if there getting away pulling a shirt if there getting away
check the rules fella it’s a yellow

Anyways the point is the ref wasn’t consistent if you agree with savage then there is seriously something wrong

even macca says they were harsh and the ref made a rod for his own back!

  • 29 will die for the toon army // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:01 PM

I jst hate the modern game.
    1. Diving
    2. Looking for people to get booked.
    3. Pretending

Wat the F happened to fair play. A$$ holes.

  • 30 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:01 PM

Jeff you keep saying ‘he’????? Why??

  • 31 toon kk // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:02 PM

Most clubs buy players to help now by being experienced and at their best, we always have resale in mind. We should have used the money on a experienced striker and broke MA rules for the good of the club.

  • 32 will die for the toon army // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:05 PM

    toon kk

Resale value is one thing I agree with MA. F those Mercenaries.

  • 33 Bri // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:05 PM

Mitro knew exactly what he was doing. He wasn’t looking at the ball when he stamped on the Arsenal player, so a red card was correct.

  • 34 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:06 PM

Anyway while Jeff sorts his head out, yes it was a good defensive performance but it wasn’t the refs fault, we weren’t the better team as by definition our discipline failed us. We have the makings of a good team, that can be seen, but it’s a work in progress and some players need their heads sorting out or we’ll have more brave failure days before we get a win.

  • 35 JDdubai // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:07 PM

Its not just 1 game, its that he could easily have been sent off in 3 of the 4 games he has played.

I dont argue with his potential, but what is the point of potential if you cant be trusted to stay on the pitch for 90mins? He needs sorting out, hopefully McClaren can do it and we will have a player on our hands but he has made it hard for himself already as the refs will be looking for him now due to his own stupidity.

Yellows become reds when you have a reputation, whoch he does because of his own actions.

  • 36 croftus5678 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:07 PM

i’m a bit annoyed here as theres no way that many cards come one way in a game !

all of them was soft cards also imo.

we had a lot of very good performances today but i’m going to go for hairdryer today ! he’s the most critisised by myself at being poor/avg defensively but today he was a top 6 leftback in his defending alone !

krul was at his very best and we all know he can stop shots but he came out of his goal today to clear and catch high balls which we have not seen from him in a hell of a long time and look how much that improved the look of our defence.

sissoko was another who was just all over the place tbh ! not only working his socks off but he was also very effective in defence / wing and attack.

and finally mbemba ! this lad i was well impressed with even when he was not near he was not losing the 1-2 men he was marking and i dont think he lost a header and had no hassle in his clearances.
he also took the ball out well from defence just a shame he didnt have support tbh.

thauvin also deserves credit as he tried and tried alone all game and still nearly made something happen.

also others colo/jan/anita/colback/wijnaldum had very good games and mitrovic was playing great with his strength and hold up play before that very poor call from the ref.

  • 37 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:07 PM

    Jeff. Ashley Out! Thoughts?

  • 38 Sir Braveheart // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:08 PM

“We don’t demand a team that wins we demand a team that tries”

They’ve tried in every game so far. 100% improvement over last season. I’ll take that.

It’ll take time to gel. I said 8 points from 8 games. I stick to that.

  • 39 hibbit // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:10 PM

just got back……not sure which game you guys watched / where at but the ref got it just about right colo should not have been booked ….Mitrovic is like a bull in a china shop unless he calms down he’s going to be taking at lot of early baths …..krul Motm but a lot of others sweated blood today if you have to blame someone blame the man that got himself sent of runs about like lunatic always going to be a problem in the prem Arsenal were there for the taking

  • 40 Jib // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:11 PM

The really weird thing is I enjoyed the game.

The bar was full of Gooners

However I had me furious face on so not a peep outta any Southerners , it was all a bit surreal and I didn’t feel at all downhearted.

Apparently we can refuse refs for cupties so no more Andre (bent) Marriner anymore

  • 41 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:12 PM

The fouls you are talking about are blatant pull backs not obstructing with the body otherwise mbemba would have been sent off. Your talking rubbish manpixie

  • 42 expatmag // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:12 PM

    Definite yellow, borderline red

  • 43 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:12 PM

Did no one else see Howard Webb say collo was lucky to stay on the pitch for thetackle that wwasn’t even a yellow!??

  • 44 Jib // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:13 PM

    Sir BH well said
Tsunki will you get off the sole of me shoe

  • 45 TheToonKing // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:13 PM

Did you see the Charlie Adam red in the Stoke game ?

These ref’s are out of their minds, ruining the game. – that is NOT a read either.

And the one Affelay got can be argued as well.

Really pissed today, they have to stop these soft red’s and let players play.

  • 46 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:15 PM

83 Jesus Christ he made no attempt for the ball only the player it IS A YELLOW CARD CHECK THE RULES!!!!!!!

  • 47 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:15 PM

People saying the ref got it wrong which one apart from colo or arsenal pen? You see mitro one given a red more than not but yes not given everytime.

  • 48 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:15 PM

Oohhh Jeff brave little soldier with his little angry face scaring all those naughty drunk Arsenal fanatics. Yep. Sure. Give us the name of the bar. Let’s see if anybody online remembers Mr Angwy Face ha ha

  • 49 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:16 PM

Ok then mbemba should have been sent off aswell if it’s a yellow he done it twice!!

  • 50 Slank // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:16 PM

As nobody seems to have done it my views on the players:

    Krul: Excellent. Full of confidence.
    Janmaat: Good.
Mbemba: Impressive again. Needs to work on his shoulder charges.
    Colo: Impressive again. Captains performance.
Haidara: Good but does get caught out up field.
    Colback: Tenacious. Worked very hard.
Anita: Worked hard but Arsenal passing game made it hard for him.
    Gini: Very impressive again.
Sissoko: Worked really hard. Very committed (for once ?).
Thauvin: Impressive. Tougher than Cabella. No dying swans.
    Mitrovic: Needs anger management sessions.

Overall the team worked really hard and looked very organised.

Would the result have been different if Mitrovic had stayed on, I’m not too sure. Arsenal looked very good before the red.

  • 51 toon22 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:17 PM

Any idiot can re watch that game and see for themselves the ref sided with Arsenal for almost the whole game.
He might as well have worn there strip,he was either payed to side with them or was under instruction from the league.

As for Mitro sending off even the Arsenal players were suprised, even the guy he fouled.

  • 52 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:17 PM

Plus I’ve never said mbembes wasn’t a yellow it was but with consistency so was there’s without doubt! !

  • 53 Jib // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:18 PM

    Who is Jeff ?

  • 54 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:18 PM

Jeff young man I believe you put your foot in all by yourself. Should have thought before you planted it down. it’s disturbing to be so out of your league, tell me honey – how do you live with that? How? it’s a real poser that one. 🙂

  • 55 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:19 PM

Jeff – why are YOU asking?

  • 56 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:20 PM

No he shouldn’t 83 the first was a check I.e the player ran into him not a yellow!
The second he took him out without trying for the ball a yellow!

  • 57 JDdubai // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:21 PM

Regardless of whether it was a red or not, why run the risk of it By going over the top of the ball and bringing your studs down his shin?? Its 70-30 a red card, more so with his reputation now.

Haidara MOM for me, whole defence has played well last 2 games.

Need to find the balance between all out defence and all out attack though, west ham can be beaten but need to do more than everyone defend and hope for counter attack..

  • 58 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:21 PM

Although I did admire Marriners fine defensive header that stopped us going into their box…

  • 59 Jib // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:22 PM

    Toon 22
    Well said
Be careful you are talking about the game which seems to be way down the list of priorities for the goons on here

  • 60 toon kk // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:23 PM

Let’s be honest we were just outclassed and we’ll have far more of this to come. The difference so far we are at least trying harder than last season.

  • 61 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:23 PM

Manx Mbemba did the same check twice without contention for the ball. It ends up being a body push, not a legitimate barge.

  • 62 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:24 PM

I think I am in sync with u as well bud I agree with pretty much everything there

Mbemba produced the best moment of the match for me when he went striding up field into the final 3rd with the ball then scared himself with how far he had gotten

  • 63 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:24 PM

Can’t believe people are sticking up for that refereeing performance absolutely shocking he ruined the game it’s a contact sport Ffs and he’s ruined it from the 3rd minute!

  • 64 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:25 PM

    My comments:

Krull: great shot stopper but will never be a top keeper with his terrible distribution. Good for us at present but if we want to progress we need better.
Jaanmat: solid enough but lost something going Forward. Failed to get cross in time and time again. Needs to capture form of last season quickly.
Mbemba and colo: both solid no complaints from me. Will be weak against strong forwards but looks like we will have to go with it.
Gini: best midfielder I would say as he managed to relieve pressure and drive past players a few times. Decent display.
Anita and coldback: both solid but offer no creativity and look lost at times when bringing the ball out. Need a cabaye type player fast.
Thauvin: lost of work and decent display. Will be a good buy and look forward to seeing more.
Sissokho: decent performance tracked back ok and made some powerful runs.
Mitro: clown. Should not be doing that at all or even risking it even if it could be harsh.

  • 65 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:25 PM

If you think the ref won the game for Arsenal then you’re in for a disappointing season if our players don’t get their psychology right. They have the ability, not the discipline – of course a collective lack of top fitness aids poor tackling.

  • 66 toon kk // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:26 PM

Palace 1 up and pardew was poor? he’s getting a chance to run a club his way.

  • 67 Bri // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:26 PM

    Looks a decent player

  • 68 Jib // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:26 PM

  • 69 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:27 PM

Manpixie it was an identical foul what are you on.

  • 70 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:28 PM

Part of the game is understanding the refs preferences, Marriner tends to be lenient with cards, today he wasnt and our lot couldnt understand how play without fouling

  • 71 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:28 PM

Anyway I’ll come back when the place has cooled down and that goon jeff has got his Google face back on instead of that Angwy one.

  • 72 Belfast // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:28 PM

He wasn’t that bad Manxpie. Denied Arsenal a stonewall pen and booked Coloccini for nothing.

The Big Serb lost us that game. He got away with a stamp at Swansea and didn’t get away with it today.

    Big dopey Sam Dingle.

Hopefully sign another striker but I won’t be holding my breath.

  • 73 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:29 PM

Tsunki nah he didn’t he went for the ball in the 1st one and ended up checking hin the second was a blatant check which was a yellow card no doubt but there player deliberately stopped thauv without going for the ball it’s a yellow card full stop but the referee did nothing

  • 74 toon22 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:30 PM

I wonder how many refs we will get this season that have decided we are going to lose the game before a ball is kicked?
Wonder if the FA or anyone else is going to coment on this or are we going to have to listen to the usual twaddle how the ref got it right bla bla bla,as if they keep up this shocking start to the season, thats not just the toon games, they are in danger of turning the whole league into a farce.
Were 4 games in and the biggest taling points have been poor to shocking ref/linesmans decisions

  • 80 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:36 PM

I can’t be arsed with this now like imo the ref was absolutely shocking for a competitive sport a spectator sport and an entertaining sport ruined it completely
as someone said earlier if that was Costa he would have got a ticking off! !

83 check the replay fella they weren’t the same at all the only one which was the same was the yellow card 1

  • 81 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:37 PM

    1-2 Palace

  • 84 toon kk // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:39 PM

the ref had a good game apart from they should have had a pelenty and Colo’s yellow was very harsh.

  • 85 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:41 PM

Plenty fans on here were dedperate for us to get Mitrovic. So far I haven’t seen him play. So can anyone now tell me what sort of a player he is? He looks like a lumbering cruise liner and makes Shearer look like a nifty turbo charged destroyer.

  • 86 Slank // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:43 PM

    Ron Knee

Yes. The facts speak for themselves.

The game reminded of me of playing away from home with our backs to the wall as the home team send in waves and waves of attacks.

  • 87 magpie6699 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:43 PM

Back from the match. I thought the red was harsh but most of the yellows were even harsher! Some of them were for fair challenges and others were for nothing fouls which, inexplicably, did not produce a yellow when it was Arsenal doing it, probably because we naively got on with the game instead of leaping into the air and squealing like a 3 year old girl who has had her pigtails pulled. Pathetic!
As soon as we were down to 10 men I said that that was the game over, which in some ways it was. And yet… I came away strangely heartened – by the determination and team work of the players, the atmosphere from the crowd (much appreciated during the game by Steve McLaren!) and also the brave substitutions. SM brought on 3 attackers – and we didn’t get annihilated as a result. Just a pity we couldn’t have seen a meaningful game as far as fair competition goes.

  • 88 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:44 PM

just got in – agree we played better after Nitrovic got sent off.
All ten players that were left on were superb – played some decent football. My MOM was Wijnadum from Mbemba and Krul

Me I would sign Austin tomorrow and get rid off Nitrovic or send him out on loan absolute liability. Could of been booked before he was sent off instead of going for the ball looked where the player was and jumped into him

  • 89 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:44 PM

Toonkk seriously I’ve said my opinion on it i can’t be arsed arguing on that
he ruined the game very early on simple as that for me that’s my opinion

  • 93 toon kk // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:47 PM

We played exactly how I predicted, but tbh I thought we’d be wupped by 3 goals to nil, thanks to Krul I was wrong.

Mitrovic apart, that was an excellent performance by the lads. Thauvin was motm for me. Brilliant job. Showed Mitrovic how to hold it up.

  • 95 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:48 PM

People coming home from the game need to watch the matching TV and then make judgement on the ref. If I went the game I would have been drawn in to the atmosphere and causing the ref.

  • 96 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:48 PM

And if this is the way the game is going then the prem really need step in and stop it now!

  • 97 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:48 PM

deffo card happy refs today 5 red cards in the prem today
    2 for Stoke
    1 for us
    1 for Liverpool
    1 for West Ham

  • 98 Mag52 // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:49 PM

Fighting display from us today. Six yellows and one red suggests it was a brawl. Certainly wasn’t.
It can take a whole season for some players to settle in to what is expected in the English game and the premiership in particular. Hopefully Mitrovic will turn out to be a quick learner otherwise we’re going to have to get used to playing with ten men on a regular basis.

  • 99 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:50 PM

Well, not going to totally blow my lid as if you looked at our games at the start of the season our predicted points wouldn’t be much different, plus we have had 10 men in two of those games .

Not going to write Mitrovic of totally, despite him needing a slap for getting himself sent of today . He is still young and has bags of talent but he needs to learn quickly .

Wijnaldum is our best player IMO and others need to follow suit . Again today Anita & Colback doesn’t work as our midfield is non existant at times .

    Next game I would play:

    ——Sissoko———-De Jong———-Thuavin——

Cisse will need help so I would push De Jong up close to him and hopefully we can get a win .

  • 100 Ron Knee // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:50 PM

The Dunkirk spirit is all very well, but where’s the attacking intent? Is it the way McClaren has set up the team or are the players overawed at playing the likes of Man Utd and Arsenal?

This is going to be a long season.

  • 101 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:50 PM

Mitrovic has 48 votes for MOTM? He is 5th atm…he reduced us to a Arsenal training exercise for 74+ minutes

  • 102 Lindisfarne // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:50 PM

Nobody mentioning how well Thauvin played when left to lead the line. All the new players will certainly improve and on the back of the last three performances I am looking forward to the rest of the season. NUFC just need to start scoring against PL teams and there will be even more confidence running through the squad.

ps. Has Obertan and Gouffran been moved out yet?

  • 103 Lindisfarne // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:51 PM

  • 106 SPRINGY // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:53 PM

    my view
    KRUL=solid performance
janmaat=good maybe lacking a bit of sharpness
mbemba=solid, strong and looks like a cb we’ve needed
colo=solid, looks fitter then all of last year tbh and more like a defender under macca so credit where its due, unlucky for the goal
    haidara=solid,and improving week on week
colback=grafted tirelessly, better then he has been this season
anita=grafted, good performance and always trys to look to pass it forward, not much in front of him to pass to unfortunately
sissoko=good today, showed more aggression and full of running, thought his booking was as bad as mitrovics,as to say very soft for me
gini=looks like he is a yard quicker in mind and pace then people around him,and surprisingly strong…very impressed with his displays this season
thauvin=worked hard and showed strength and movement, does’nt look as lightweight as i thought
mitrovic=well…..didnt show much and the ball was coming back off him far to easy before his sending off,the sending in my opinion was a clumsy challenge but it was very similar to sissoko’s so should of been the same result
perez, cisse, dejong=were’nt on long but looked willing to work but hardly going to see the best out of them due to the circumstances

ref=wanted to be the star of the show, and at times looked like he was on arsenal payroll, bought everything the arsenal players said, dived and moaned about

arsenal=great passing, great movement, technically superior but lacked a end product and for me the dissapointing thing was there constant moaning, diving, trying to get players booked or sent off really soured my opinion of a side that dont need to do it,they’ve been unbeaten for 13 games and won 11 away from home…dont need to cheat very dissapointed by there attitude.

newcastle worked hard, defended well and really looked like a team for the first time in a long time this season, despite the results….still, the players need to take responsibility and learn to play smarter

  • 107 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2015 at 4:53 PM

Its a what if? scenario, the team played really well after the sending off that it may have been possible to win the game. But we will never know and the performance may not have been as galvanized with 11 players on the pitch. Plenty to take forward into the next match and build on, plus Cisse is likely to start next Monday at W.Ham.

We have to have a Brave manager , we havnt . We have to start giving teams a game . Not be scared of them , until we do – we’ll stay where we are

  • 124 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:14 PM

  • 126 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:22 PM

    Take a Chancel
I would get Austin in tonight and send Mitrovich out on loan – or get rid of bloody liability clumsy an the ball first touch poor – and he is a marked man now. We cannot afford to be playing with ten men every other game.

Rest of the team played well

  • 127 Thump // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:22 PM

Watched up until Anita’s yellow and gave up. Marriner was too card happy and ruined the game – even Arsenal fans were getting fed up with the constant stoppages ffs!

Savage did my nut in today. “Newcastle fans shouldn’t be too upset because Arsenal were denied a penalty” – he gave out 1 red and 6 yellows for nothing challenges! Mbemba went shoulder to shoulder and used his strength to challenge for the ball, perfectly legal within the laws of the game. I don’t even know what Gini got booked for. The fact that Arsenal were denied the penalty (in which both Marriner and his assistant missed the stonewall) is a testament to how poorly officiated this match was.

As for Mitrovic – what the fsck does anybody expect? He’s expected not just to lead the line, but to come deep, go wide, just to get a touch. He’s a forward who is expected to do absolutely everything because he’s getting next to no service.

The entire thing was just farcical.

  • 128 colwell // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:22 PM

In 4 Prem games we’ve had something like 7 shots on target the worst in the league. The last 2 we never registered 1 on target. Although we are trying harder we still don’t look like much what worries me is that the teams we should be competing with are winning at the big teams too not just going and parking the bus. This season will be 10 x harder than last. Have we bought enough?

  • 129 Thump // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:24 PM

@colwell: We’ve bought enough, but we don’t know how to press up the pitch. We really need to work on retaining posession, rather than playing a counter attacking game.

  • 130 nomis_jade // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:25 PM

    Mclaren –
“I’ve seen it over and over. The ball has come over his head, his eyes are on the ball and he’s stamped on his foot. He wasn’t look at the man, there wasn’t any intent.

“I definitely don’t think it was dangerous. It was clumsy but I’ve seen plenty of clumsy challenges. It’s a contact sport

Absolutely spot one. No one can have any arguement with anything there.

  • 131 SPRINGY // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:28 PM

i would like to see a striker and a central midfielder….dont think we’ll get them, but can see a chance of a late bit of movement in transfer market maybe

  • 132 nomis_jade // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:30 PM

Colwell – I have to disagree. I cannot see this season being as hard as last. We are far improved. We didnt register a shot today – so i cant argue with that, but for me personally, despite 10men we looked so much better going forward. Results need to start backing that up, but that is my perception of watching the team play.

  • 133 SPRINGY // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:36 PM

think you used the right word there”team”….they look like a team defending…just need to be more fluid and confident going forward but that will come with games and its been a rough tough start to the season, against sides that finished alot higher and played much better then we did last season

  • 134 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:36 PM

I actually get the feeling we might do an Everton this season, in the same way they would come on strong towards the end of the campaign and end up comfortably in the top 10 (fingers crossed)

McLaren is still working out his best team + formation and we have some players in their first PL season .

We just have to make sure we don’t get cast adrift early on as it could get into our heads .

  • 135 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:39 PM

Also am I the only one that thinks we are seriously missing some creativity in midfield ? .

For me Wijnaldum is our best player, but he is better at carrying the ball and using his athleticism rather than slotting the ball through the eye of the needle .

IMO Siem De Jong has to get into the starting 11 sooner rather than later .

  • 136 cyprus // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:39 PM

This is going to be an excellent championship. So called minions are giving the big teams a real game. There will be lots of surprises.

We could end up in trouble, but we’ve shown good signs ourselves. We’ll be getting results too. We’ve played all of our games up to now with ten players. Ye, all of em 😉

  • 137 Bobbybee // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:40 PM

Just back from the game. The red was nothing more than a clumsy tackle and a yellow at best. Ref totally ruined the game. I have seen the replay and still think it’s a yellow. Marriner trying to make a name for himself as usual. Some on here enjoying our defeat says more about them and their anti Ashley agenda than anything else. Weak minded people who’ve allowed one man to get inside their heads and now appear anti Newcastle. You can’t play a team of Arsenal’s quality with ten men, but we played heroically after the card and we’ll be fine this season. Talk of relegation should be the domain of mackems, not geordies. We knew the first few games would be hard, but we’ve shown good spirit and deserve credit more than criticism.

  • 138 cyprus // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:41 PM

    Who will SDJ displace?

I think Perez must be on rather than him, on what I’ve seen. Perez can ‘partner’ raging bull when we are attacking… One CF isn’t getting us the chances.

See my comment @94. Thauvin was motm for me. It’s a sod’s job playing that role with 10 men but he was excellent. I can’t remember seeing anyone doing it better.

  • 141 geordie157 // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:45 PM

Getting Austin in makes sense with mitrovic needing time to adjust and the fact he’ll miss quite a lot of games through suspension. We also know cisse cannot lead the line. Although de jong could play in a false no.9 role.

  • 142 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:46 PM

    @ Cyprus

I would drop Colback & move Gini alongside Anita .

I do like Perez, but I would rather have a natural winger like Thuavin on the left crossing for Cisse or Mitrovic, and have Perez making regular substitute appearances .

  • 143 nomis_jade // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:46 PM

SPRINGY – Aye, thats exactly it. We are working so much better as a team. A word for Thauvin as well. Everything I read when he signed for use was saying he was a lazy player like Benarfa, cared more about attcking than defending. He worked his socks off today.

  • 144 nomis_jade // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:48 PM

Sorry, a few people have already mentioned Thauvin, so im not really saying anything new.

  • 145 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:50 PM

I’m just back from the game. I haven’t seen the Mitrovic incident on TV so don’t know whether the ref got that right. Although he dealt us a lot of yellows, I thought he was quite lenient to us overall. We were at least half a yard off the pace (Mitrovic at least a yard off) when we had 11 men. After the sending off, the ref didn’t want to give two yellows. Anita in paeticular got away with far too much.

  • 146 SPRINGY // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:50 PM

thauvin was strong and did everything he could do to try and make something happen, hold the ball or even just ease the pressure….really good and no doubt we’ll see more attacking ability when we are not encamped in our own half against 1 of the strongest sides in the league

  • 147 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:51 PM

Also I really hope Willems was here for more than just supporting Gini .

  • 148 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:52 PM

Any team would struggle with 10 men against an arsenal side who keep possession for fun against 11. We will do ok this season as we are still lacking quality to be a threat to the top 8 but will be easily safe from relegation. Need a abate type of cm desperately.
For next game I would go with Perez up top with thauvin and sissokho alongside him. Tell the team to get up the pitch no excuses now as we are playing West Ham.

  • 149 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:53 PM

  • 150 SPRINGY // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:53 PM

  • 151 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 29, 2015 at 5:58 PM

That second half from Haidara was encouraging defensively. He needs to build on that. He and Janmaat need to supply the wingers because their own balls into the opposition box are woeful.
