Poll: Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player In 1-0 Loss To Arsenal?

3:18 pm, Saturday, August 29th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 67 Comments

It was another disappointing result for Newcastle today and for the second time in four games we had a man sent off in the first half of a Premier League game.

This time it was Mitrovic who was shown a straight red card after just 16 minutes, and will now miss the next three games.

chameberlain after shot in off coloccini

Chamberlain after his shot was deflected in by Coloccini for an own goal

Apart from that Newcastle played extremely well but we cannot win games if get players sent off –  especially in the first half.

The ref got everything spot on apart from colo challenge and not giving arsenal a pen. The mitro challenge is a red card however at times you will see the red be lenient and give a yellow (wish it was today).

  • 2 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:20 PM

    Ashley Out!

  • 3 Macas // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:22 PM

The ref got it wrong booking Colo, but the rest were spot on for me. If an Arsenal player had put his studs in on one of our players shins everyone would be screaming for a red card. Think it was more clumsy than anything else but still a red card.

  • 4 Slank // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:23 PM

‘The ref got it wrong booking Colo, but the rest were spot on for me..’

    Totally agree.

  • 5 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:23 PM

Haha Mitrovic getting votes haha oh dear

  • 6 Ron Knee // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:24 PM

Mitrovic got one vote. Somebody with a sense of humour?

  • 7 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:24 PM

4 from the next 2, anything less and we’re in trouble this season. The spirit and togetherness of the fans, players and club can quickly fade. The determination and will is there, it feels like everyone is pulling in the same direction, but ultimately if the results don’t come McClaren won’t be so appreciative of the supporters when it turns.

Overzealous in the opening exchanges and the controlled commitment we showed after the red card was a better balance.

Disagree with Colback and Colo’s cautions, can’t remember Tahuvin’s, the rest I can’t complain. Mbmeba did 2 identical pro fouls within 10 mins, Anita was for accumulation, Wiji his reaction which is disputable I suppose as you could say the ref caused that frustration, Sissoko fair enough and the ref missed a stonewall penalty for them.

I only wish our crowds could be like that from the kick-off and not have to be provoked in to it. Quit being so coy, you’re a bunch of North East radgies, act like it from the first whistle!

  • 8 Ron Knee // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:25 PM

    Three comedians now!

  • 9 Bambams // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:25 PM

I am proud of our team. Just wait until we get a break.
Ref spoiled match, never ever a red in my opinion.
    Unlucky with deflected goal.
    Krul and Haidara brilliant
    Back four immense

Don’t be too hard on Mitrovic, he will be a brilliant player for us once he has more service. He is battling with limited service at the minute, trying too hard.
He is not a dirty player and we need to stop this slant that he is.

I am so optimistic with our whole set up.
Let’s just support and see what happens.
Arsenal needed a biased ref (imo) against 10 men for over 75 mins to win one nil via a deflected shit that WAS going wide.

We have improved so much, just give the team a few more games.

We will win appeal on red card

In my half full glass opinion

  • 10 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:25 PM

There is still a massive lack of quality to be pushing into top 8. Krul is a great shot stopper but his distribution puts us under the cosh time and time again. Haidara has played well defensively but has a bad first touch and pass/cross. Coldback works hard but has limited vision and passing range so struggles in possession (same with Anita really), we are not close to a top 8 side so recent results have been very admirable.

  • 11 toonbrother // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:25 PM

    motm for us: haidara
    motm for arsenal: colocinni

  • 12 JDdubai // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:26 PM

Great effort by the lads again, same as last week.

Mitrovic is paying for the reputation he had made for himself. Could have been a yellow or red but Because of the stupidity of his tackles in the previous games the refs are looking for him so he gets a red. If you go over the ball studs up and go down the players shin then you run the risk of getting a red.

Mitrovic shouldn’t be in the starting 11 until he can be trusted to act like a professional and behAve correctly.

Defence played well again, Haidara showed for the second week running he can be exactly what we need, just needs patience to develop.

Overall We battled well, 2 games we lost we were down to 10men.

ManU, Arsenal, Soton and Swansea is a tough start, think if we continue as we have started we will be ok.

Interesting to see if the powers that be think we need Austin now if Mitro cant be trusted yet….

  • 13 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:26 PM

Whats all the whining and crying about? This was an inept display of indiscipline that cost us the possibility of a win against an Arsenal team that huffed and puffed and not much else. It turned into yet another ‘ brave effort’ . Counselling for the idiot and an internal ban to reserves when back for two games. And counselling to the players drawing yellow cards like they were about to run out.

  • 14 Bambams // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:26 PM

Whoops sorry Ed that should of said Shot….

I and o next to each other on my keypad

  • 15 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:27 PM

Toonbrother colo was motm with Haidara for me. You are a grade A loon.

  • 16 geordiemark // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:27 PM

every single player got my man of the match, I have never seen such a brilliant defensive display from a Newcastle united team ever, ive watched the toon for over 40 years and I am proud of each and every player who played in that game today

mirt gets a red card very harsh I thought, mariner has a problem when it comes to the toon he just hates us that’s the reason he donned the red shit of arsenal, arsenal are a fantastic football team but there theatrical acts spoil it, we all love pretty football but they had about 80% of the match and an own goal wins it for them sums them up doesn’t it

  • 17 toonbrother // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:27 PM

0 wins in 4 with colo in the line up
    just as i predicted

  • 18 toon kk // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:27 PM

We made a big mistake buying Mitrovic, for the money their was more experienced striker’s out there. He should think about a career in kick boxing.
The regime of buy young with future resale regime is a gamle when we’re a team that needs goals.

  • 19 firebug666 // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:28 PM

    motm for us: Krul

    motm for Arsenal: Mariner

  • 20 toonbrother // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:28 PM

colo was man of the match?
lol you are OUT OF YOUR MIND

  • 21 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:29 PM

Evidence points to him being a dirty player so far mate

And the yank stream I was watching said they discussed the red with the ref association and they confirmed that it was a rightfully given red…not sure how we could win an appeal

  • 22 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:29 PM

MClaren needs to address the balance, we yielded to Arsenal early on and just tried to use Mitrovic to hold-up the ball, which didn’t work as he either lost the battle, had a bad touch or gave it away.

Before the red it just felt like a continuation of the Man U second-half.

We’ve shown we can defend when we concentrate on defending, to the detriment of our attack, we’ve shown we can attack when we concentrate on that, to the detriment of our defending. Needs to integrate the whole thing.

  • 23 Toon Tang // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:29 PM

First thing first, the ref had an absolute meltdown, fcuk knows what game yous were watching. all Arsenal players needed to do was roll around on the floor and another yellow was produce

The same non fouls we put in went unpunished for them. Never seen such a one sided referee display in all my life.

  • 24 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:29 PM

Manpoxie gini’s was clearly for reaction and saying something to the ref that you don’t know so what you talking about.

  • 25 geordiemark // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:29 PM

give mirt a chance I remember shearer when he used to put his foot about on the pitch as well the lad needs time

  • 26 JP...from The Rock // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:30 PM

Disgusting performance from the ref! Disgraceful and should be nowhere near reffing a Premier League match. It seemed at times that he had never seen anything slightly physical in his life and got scared at every tackle and was only too eager to take his cards out.

I am still in shock tbh I can’t believe what just happened and how biased the ref and commentators were. I don’t have Black n White glasses on as I always try and be fair in my assessments on everything.

The ref should have given a pen for Arsenal. All the rest he got wrong! I would have preferred the penalty tbh. At least it would have made for a much more entertaining match. And those BT commentators know F all what they are saying, they are the worst commentators I’ve heard, even the American commentators talk more sense than that lot!

  • 27 Slank // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:30 PM

    Bambams @ 9

    Should it not be…

‘..Don’t be too hard on Mitrovic, he will be a brilliant player for us once he …… remains on the field for 90 minutes !

  • 28 toonbrother // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:30 PM

    nufc fans never learn
this is the time to clamour for a new central defender to replace colo
instead some are actually praising him as MOTM for yet another disgusting performance in which he cost us a point

  • 29 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:31 PM

The ref wasn’t consistent and that is the least you expect!

83 the point is thauv was going clear into the opposition box so it’s an instant yellow for there player that’s the rule so why no yellow where is the consistency?

  • 30 geordiemark // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:31 PM

I know what he should have said, goes like this well not only have we got to beat 11 arsenal players today but we also have arsenals 12th man to beat as well, in other words he must have said how much you been paid mariner, don’t tell me it doesn’t go on in football we all know it does

  • 31 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:32 PM

Toonbotherer you are famously twisted. The back four was very good today. It would have been three if not for colo. You could go to the same counsellor as mitrovic maybe

  • 32 Toon Tang // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:32 PM

And how was Ramsey MOTM? Krul took that easily. The game could have been 3 or 4 if not for him. It was only a shite deflected OG that kept this game from a 0-0.

We were very unlucky, the ref just had an absolute stinker.

  • 33 Ron Knee // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:32 PM

West Ham beating Liverpool 2-0 away. Who are we playing next?

  • 34 Toon Tang // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:33 PM

Manx, the ref had a ‘mare eh.

  • 35 geordiemark // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:33 PM

tell the truth I thought colo had a very good game really

  • 36 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:33 PM

A modification to that infamous banner.

“We don’t demand a team that wins, we demand a team that tries…….to win!”.

Think the trying is getting in the way of the football a bit, currently.

  • 37 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:33 PM

Not having that manpixie it’s a free kick in dangerous area. If he last man and stopping a goal scoring opportunity then a red but it’s not even close. There’s no rule for stopping someone going into the area is yellow

  • 38 Belfast // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:33 PM

Thanks for the unbiased commentary as usual Manxpie hahaha

Told you the big Serb was an Idiot weeks ago. Big Dopey Sam Dingle from Emmerdale thick as pig shit.

Now for the actual unbiased commentary…

In today’s game that’s a red card all day long. The same as his stamp on Taylor at Swansea was a red card. The referee didn’t give Arsenal a stonewall pen and booked Coloccini for nothing. Other than that he didn’t get a lot wrong.

Sam Dingle lost us that game today not the referee unfortunately.

  • 39 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:34 PM

Looks like Stoke are suffering the same lol Jesus are the people who employ referees the same who own the speed cameras!!

  • 40 Toon Tang // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:34 PM

Ramsey’s name was barely mentioned throughout the whole game.

Savage is probably the biggest plum in world footy. Him and Owen anyways.

  • 41 Belfast // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:35 PM

Spot on Macas and Nufc 83. I watched it with a few neutrals who had the same opinion.

I do always enjoy Manxpies post match unbiased comments though.

  • 42 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:35 PM

I really can’t understand why anyone is having a go at the ref if it was on the other foot everyone would be praising him or slagging him for not giving us a pen. Get your black and white glasses off

  • 43 JDdubai // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:35 PM

The only explanation is that the girl Colo had an affair with, which was why his missus left for Argentina, was your wife. How accurate is this??

  • 44 Toon Tang // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:36 PM

What did colo get booked for? Mariner should be banned for life for this game the tit.

  • 45 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:37 PM

    Colo booking was wrong like

  • 46 manxpie // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:38 PM

83 stopping a player moving forward deliberately is a yellow card check why janmaat was sent of against Swansea Ffs and that was in there half!

  • 47 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:38 PM

I think the ref was ok today in all honesty but he was too quick to the cards early doors and tried to stay consistent with that. I dont have a huge issue with the red but the number of yellows after it he could of controlled better, it only stopped when he called Colo over and told him to get his team under control…had he done that straight after the red then NUFC wouldnt be paying a fine tomorrow

  • 48 will die for the toon army // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:38 PM

Football these days its for girls. No longer men playing. F the mordern game miss the 90s.

  • 49 Toon Tang // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:39 PM

Why would you not have a go at the ref, he had an absolute nightmare. Booked our players and then didnt book Arse players for the same fouls on numerous occasions .

  • 50 Nufc-83 // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:39 PM

Haha manpixie shows how much you know. Jaanmat got sent off for consistent fouling over and over.

  • 51 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:39 PM

Nice to see you back off hols belfast. Yes I agree lot of upturned handbags on here, SM hasn’t got the discipline right, and the tactic of soaking up pressure was there before the sending off. Our ‘ gutsy performance’ disguises another poor approach against teams riding in reputation to some extent. I hope this is just ironing out the wrinkles but I don’t see anything promising in no wins.

  • 52 Slank // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:39 PM

    Hail Wor Ashley

‘Think the trying is getting in the way of the football a bit, currently.’

At times it certainly looks and feels like that. I’m sure McClaren will get the balance right.

  • 53 Toon Tang // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:40 PM

He should have known once he started yellowing too early, it was only downhill form there.

  • 54 JDdubai // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:40 PM

Overall we fought well, seems to be a better atmosphere around than last season. But if you cant trust people to stay on the pitch then you lose.

Mitro should be dropped when his ban is over until he wakes up, no point having talent if you leave your team in the shit every match. 3 games out of 4 he could have been sent off, its pointless.

  • 55 bladeuser // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:40 PM

What is it with u muppets he got two decisions wrong and one was the penalty arsenal should have got the other colo won the ball for once
At the end of the day we lost again
    0 wins from four games
Three outplayed let’s see your comments when it is ten without a win

  • 56 toon kk // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:42 PM

JDdubai – LOL! yup has to be something along those lines as I too think Colo had a good game today, unlucky with the OG.

  • 60 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Aug 29, 2015 at 3:44 PM

    Like I stated earlier.

If Mitrovic card was red, there is a whole host of dirty players through the years that should be in jail for taking out peoples careers.

A Keane comes to mind. So please. Keane would end people’s careers for tackles that were not given a yellow. The ref got on the bandwagon without thinking a single thing. What a twat.

People need to use their brain, and watch the replay the player that was on the ground in absolute agony stood up within 2 seconds.

I am sickened by the state of football. A meme puts it right 90 minutes of pretending to be injured vs Rugby 80 minutes of pretending you are NOT injured.

Carry on the way you did Sir Mitro.

The game was taken away from us before it really started. We do however need to learn to take possession as we don’t have any and I have no idea where that has come from. I think we had a better performance with Pardew.

We are very frustrated and it shows. The PM league is ripe with corrupt referees just like in the old manure 10 minutes extra time days and its vile.

The FA clearly are incompetent and have already decided with the refs which clubs will be allowed to secure the top four to protect their relationship with UEFA and prote and the Super League which is the Champions League. Imagine if Stoke, Villa, West Brron And the Mackems were the top four. Would be a lot of broken knee capss in the FA but no yellow cards so that’s alright then. Stoke have two sent off already. Last week Wenger wanted TV refs and TMO decisions has he asked for them again this week ? Only when that happens will we get some sense of a fair sport.
