Poll – Have Your Say On Mitrovic Decision

9:10 am, Sunday, August 30th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 36 Comments

Controversy rages over the dismissal of Aleksandar Mitrovic yesterday, but whether it was the correct decision or not by referee Andre Marriner,  it not only cost us the game but meant the game as a spectacle ended after only 16 minutes.

Newcastle then had little chance of getting anything out of the game, although the lads still played very well and with lots of heart – those still on the field that is.

aleksandar mitovic recieved red card

Mitrovic – holding his head in his hands after dismissal

We’re gauging what Newcastle fans really think.

Bambams…I wouldn’t appeal the red, but I would set action in motion to ensure Mitrovic is not being treated differently.

EU has strong rules and penalties for organizations like the FA for not treating ppl equally and showing transparency.

For those who don’t think it was a red card, if that challenge had gone in on one of our players everyone would have been calling for a red card.

Like it or not it was stupid of the lad to do what he did and it cost the entire team. He’s young and very rash and has to change is approach asap or he will continue to cost us

wow people here already want to sell mitrovic is this me or are there too many kids in this blog

  • 4 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:19 AM

Genuinely I wish you a many happy returns but I have a feeling Man Ure will finally get their act together today

Mitro’s was a yellow at best, the ref totally ruined the game

  • 5 JDdubai // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:21 AM

Mitrovic has built a reputation in the PL within 2 games through stupidity, could have gone vs Soton or Swansea and with the tv pundits analysing everything nowadays the refs will all be looking out for him.

Fouls become yellows and yellows become reds because of his stupid actions to get this rep. Until he can be trusted to behave like a professional and not a thug then he shouldnt start. I still think he will come good and will be a top signing but he needs to grow up quickly.

Would definitely look to get another Cf in now, ideally Austin or Afobe. Shame Riviere is injured as we wont be moving him on. Think Mitro will be out all September with a 3 game ban now, apart from the league cup.

JB; sorry but it was not a red and I would have the same opinion whoever made the challenge. However now the precedent has been made I will expect Mr Marriner to be sending off a lot of players this season. We will see.

    Take a Chancel on me

    Cheers mate.

  • 8 James RS // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:23 AM

Surely it should be warning first then yellow card or red card depending on severity…the ref wasn’t handing out any warnings to our players yesterday just an immediate yellow card instead of trying to keep the game under control in a mature manner.

  • 9 sparky55 // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:24 AM

Toonbrother…I’m with you mate…Captain Colo is putting himself around a lot more is definitely more up for it but he’s a headless chicken.

His biggest fault at the minute is racing out from the back line in an attempt to intercept and pressure but then leaves a hole in behind which is always going to be a problem when the our midfield line is only 5 years in front of his defensive line. It’s the job of the defensive midfielders to do what he tries to do…he should be holding the line and tracking anyone in and around him…not darting out and leaving a hole.

His positional sense is absolutely appalling and he doesn’t have the pace or brains to recover. He also a remarkable knack of finding space in his 18 years box instead of being skin tight to anyone in the box.

He’s a slow ageing muppet that shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team

  • 11 Chaz // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:25 AM

From where we are in the Gallowgate it looked like a badly timed and clumsy challenge. Certainly a foul, maybe even a yellow card offence. As for red? Mariner needs to take a long hard look at the consistency of his decision making and the other two clowns running the line were not any better either…

    It felt like 10 v 14 yesterday!

  • 12 welshgeordie9 // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:26 AM

It did happen to one of our players, remember Haidara, what happened to the player who did it, sweet fa.

That was a tackle, yesterday wasn’t, sissoko should have gone if that’s the case.

  • 13 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:27 AM

Am I missing something here? Coloccini has been immense for last couple of games and he looked pacey again yesterday and had the fire back in his game, Colo is aging yes but has been back to his best lately.

  • 14 Bambams // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:28 AM

I wish mac had come straight out on tv and said we will be appealing. There are far worse tackles go unpunished in games.
I genuinely believe we should appeal, it’s a yellow card due to its lateness. We can cite coquelin rolling around screaming making it worse when you can clearly see it hits his shin pads. He got up and played the full game I believe.

That’s just my take on it fella, I respect where you are coming from re not appealing.
    Cheers for the craic

  • 15 Take a Chancel on me // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:28 AM

I don’t often say this but I agree with you welshie @12

  • 16 welshgeordie9 // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:28 AM

It’s because of his reputation that he had a red, cisse probably would have had a red, now if that was rivière or Perez, they would have had either a yellow or a warning.

  • 17 welshgeordie9 // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:30 AM

    Take a Chancel on me

Well thank you very much, i don’t always talk rubbish.

    Ha ha ha

  • 18 Bambams // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:32 AM

We could learn a lot from how Rugby matches are refereed.
You could give a yellow card then put the player ‘on report’ if you think it’s borderline Yellow/red
Powers that be could then view the incident and player can be dealt with or NFA.
At least this way it doesn’t ruin the match as a contest for the paying public.
    Just a suggestion chaps

  • 19 JDdubai // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:34 AM

Then its Mitrovic’s fault then right? He has no-one to blame for his reputation than himself. New to the league and could easily have got a red in 3 of the first 4 games, total stupidity.

This rep will stick all season now, every game he will be under scrutiny, any 50-50 will go against him, he needs to get this into his thick head otherwise he will cost us again.

20yr old and 6 red cards already. Its not a 1 off, he knows how to be dirty, he needs to grow up and act like a man not a stupid kid. No good having talent if you act like that, will be a huge player for us if he can get his head into gear, until then he is a liability.

  • 20 JackButler // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:37 AM

His foot was over the ball, his studs up and he raked them down the leg it was a red card all day long and I’d expect any other player to be sent off it happened to one of our lads. He was lucky to stay on the pitch at Swansea and was booked within seconds of coming on against Southampton. He’s a hot head who, like Jaanmat has cost us any chance in the game.

What that idiot did to Haidara should have resulted in a long term ban but all it did was prove the stupidity of the FA but just because Macmanaman wasn’t giving a red or ban doesn’t mean that Mitrovic should be let off

  • 21 stuart no9 // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:37 AM

It’s probably a good thing he got sent off . He has to learn you can’t get away with that in this country . He cost us The game , now SM must sit him down and have a chat . He’s becoming a liability

  • 22 colwell // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:38 AM

If say Giroud did that too Anita everyone on here would have said he should see red, it was awful etc etc. Mitro may not have meant it but he was late and it was on his shin, foot would have been yellow like Sissoko got.

People need to remove their rose tinted spectacles.

  • 23 Slank // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:41 AM

What they should do is give an Amber card.

The player goes to the fourth official whilst the game continues.

The player and the fourth official review the TV footage.

If the TV coverage is conclusive that it is a red card then the player is sent for an early bath.

If the TV coverage is inconclusive then the player returns to the pitch.

  • 24 Bambams // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:41 AM

I respect your opinion and I base mine not through rose tinted glasses.
I genuinely believe it should of been a yellow, certainly seen a lot worse challenges receive yellow cards.
    But that’s just opinions fella.
Now where have I left my glasses….
    Enjoy your day you lot

  • 25 welshgeordie9 // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:42 AM

We should be able to play like they did in the seventies, remember the tough Leeds United side, tackles today is nothing compared back then, bunch of babies.

  • 26 Bambams // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:43 AM

    How are you fella ?
Not a bad shout there. Ooh we will cause all sorts of discussions now.

    Amber cards !

  • 27 Toon-Prodigy // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:43 AM

Clumbsy should only warrant a yellow I reckon. Especially that early in the game.

I think SM has it bang on, the refs quick fire rash decisions cost us. He then had no choice but to carry it on once he had made his mark.

It completely ruined the match. There has to be some leniency. The way they danced about aswell should be looked at, how high did that lad jump off the floor for the last booking? Fanny’s.

On Mitrovic though, his past couple of games and the bookings have came back to haunt him, he needs to have a word with himself quickly.

Don’t know about anyone else but 13 mil seems alot for this lad at 20 yrs old. Not writing him off just yet but he seems to have a hell of alot to learn.

  • 28 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:45 AM

Looks like we have got the reputation of being the dirtiest team in the premiership and the press and managers are going to highlight it – Didn’t Monk at Swansea highlight it the other week.
And the match report int the Mirror on Sunday praised Mariner- ‘Referee – Andre Mariner produced an excellent display and stayed strong in a hostile environment’

Going to be tough to shake off the dirtiest team in the prem and I can see a lot more bookings and red cards coming this season which other teams will get away with a foul and a ticking off.

gonna a be a tough old season!

  • 29 colwell // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:45 AM

Course there have been a lot worse challenges gone unpunished, I just think Mitro’s was nasty/dirty to be sent off those type of fouls can do serious damage. Either way if had picked up a yellow no doubt with 75 mins left he would have been sent off anyway.

  • 30 Slank // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:48 AM

I watched the Liverpool vs Hammers game and Noble’s red card was totally wrong as he got the ball. Under the Amber card he would have been back on the pitch within minutes.

In the Stoke vs WBA game the handbags between the two players should have resulted in either two yellows or two reds. The Amber card would have resolved that.

  • 31 Ron Knee // Aug 30, 2015 at 9:48 AM

I think the Nitro tackle was borderline red/yellow.

But this is a distraction from our main problem: we can’t mount an effective attack. McClaren has clearly had a positive effect on our defence, but where is our attacking ‘fret’, as King Percy used to call it?

  • 32 9tino11 // Aug 30, 2015 at 10:27 AM

Mitrovic decision was wrong. Wasn’t out of control, wasn’t excessive force, wasn’t off the ground. Was clumsy. Yellow card.

  • 33 ArtyH // Aug 30, 2015 at 11:27 AM

JMHO this was a case of I’M THE REF IN CHARGE LOOK AT ME. Mitrovic is watching the ball and cannot see the player unless he has another set of eyes somewhere else on his body. Yes his foot goes down the players shin but there is NO intent there. If a player breaks his leg in an accident like when Parker broke some oppo’s leg, Parker did not get sent off….it was an accident! Mariner who is obviously the darling of the press and media has always given the toon a bad time and never the benefit of the doubt. It would be great to have a ref who was unbiased for our games. The red should be contested, without question.

  • 34 peterk3 // Aug 30, 2015 at 1:40 PM

He’s a liability and a marked man already.

  • 35 Ravostag // Aug 30, 2015 at 7:16 PM

If mitrovics was a red then sissoko should have got a red. So whichever poor inconsistent refereeing. Our recruitment policy is flawed Austin would have cost the same as the Serb destroyer and is a proven premier league striker. Gomus andAyew doing ok as well and whhat about Sinclair at Villa?:we had a chance on all of these players
