Two Newcastle Players In Premier League Team Of The Week

Newcastle put up another terrific defensive performance on Saturday, especially after we had gone don w to 1-0 men with Aleksandar Mitrovic having been sent off in the 16th minutes, and the lads almost held out but for an unlucky Fab Coloccini own goal in the 52nd minute.

And even after conceding and Newcastle players probably tiring a little the determination, will and spirit was still there – but we didn’t get anything out of the game.

So with that defensive performance it’s hardly surprising that Tim Krul and Chancel Mbemba are included in the Premier League Team of the Day for last Saturday when eight of the ten league games were played.

Tim is right back in form and made a string of good saves, much like he did the week before at Manchester United.

Chancel Mbemba is quickly building a reputation for being an excellent defender and Newcastle seem to have made a terrific acquisition there – and hopefully he can be a stalwart in the team as we improve and try to finish in the top eight in the league this season.

Here are the eleven players selected as being the best players in their positions on Saturday.

Tim Krul – Newcastle
Joel Ward – Crystal Palace
Angelo Ogbonna – West Ham
Chancel Mbemba – Newcastle
Aaron Cresswell – West Ham
David Silva – Manchester City
Raheem Sterling – Manchester City
Dimitri Payet – West Ham
Scott Sinclair – Aston Villa
Bakary Sako – Crystal Palace
Manuel Lanzini – West Ham

It’s interesting that we play at West Ham two weeks on Monday, and West Ham have four players in that team.

It will be a tough game for us at Upton Park, but the team has shown in the last two games that we can be a match for anybody in the Premier League, and Steve McClaren will be going all out for the win.

We’ll also be trying to keep eleven men on the pitch in that next game, as we try to put some points up on the board.

Tim and Chancel and a number of other  players played their hearts out for the Newcastle shirt on Saturday – for the second week in a row.

You cannot ask more than that.
