Poll: Verdict Of Fans On Mitrovic Red Card

10:16 am, Monday, August 31st, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 125 Comments

It was a huge blow to Newcastle, when seemingly out of nothing Aleksandar Mitrovic was sent off after only 16 minutes on Saturday against Arsenal – and the game as a competition was over because of the referee’s actions.

aleksandar mitrovic red card

Oh no – it’s a red card

We have conducted a poll and it seems that about two fans in three think it was a poor decision by Andre Marriner.

Of course that doesn’t help us much,  as we lose another game after having a player sent off in the first half.

Here’s the results of our poll.

Should Mitrovic Have Been Sent Off For Foul On Coquelin?

Shock result NUFC fans think NUFC player was wrongfully sent off

115 fans think he was MOTM after 16 minutes

Mitrovic would be voted in for the peace prize if the vote was conducted on here

Toonbrother, time will tell. I have no particular agenda against Colo but your premonition about not winning with him in the team seems to be coming to fruition.
Either by design or because of limitations in his movement we have to play 10 yards deeper when Colo plays, this has 3 effects:
    1) it invites the opposition onto us
    2) it restricts our attacking play
    3) it exposes Anita & Colback to increased pressure

His actual play in the last couple of games has been decent, as i said earlier he cannot get exposed for pace when we sit deeper, additionally we have played against teams with CF’s <6 foot. Had either of these not been the case then he would have been beasted as usual.

Said about a week ago that our best combo would be Willo & Mbemba. Hopefully they will get to play together at some point, see it being much like our previous best partnership of Willo and Mbiwa.

I said that yesterday when i seen shaws tackle its a joke because all sat and sun morning all they talked about was mitros “stamp” then a challenge like shaws goes unnoticed even smith said im sure he didnt mean to do that what a joke bet he was going mad 24 hours earlier for a lesser challenge.

  • 4 scout // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:23 AM

If that was a red the games finished. He stood on his foot

Oh could it be BBC comes from Manchester along with a lot of the press production.

The TOON crowd were getting stick for creating a hostile atmosphere on Saturday… Bring it on – every home game – lets make it a noisy hostile atmosphere every home game starting with Watford. Been like a morgue to long

Third time repost in 10 mins you on the triple espresso ed?Bit confused lads,
If Olivier Kemen. Is so wanted by Lyon , Tottenham and ac Milan then why isn’t he being given a chance in our midfield ?
Clealy the Anita colback combo is hardly pulling up trees so far so why not give him a chance from the bench instead of tiote who has been less than ordinary .
If he is that good and we can’t find him a spot then get him out on loan to spurs and let them pay his wages and give him some premier experience nothing to loose .
And selling a player like him for less than a million ???
Either there is something we arn’t being told about or we value willo higher than the current French u23 captain .
Anyone remember the screamer he banged in at the end of last season for the kids.?
Yes sell gouff and if a decent offer came in for tiote it wouldn’t be the end of the world

By all accounts those teams want him in their reserve team not first team, not sure we should put him in our first team just to stop him joining another reserve team after all maybe he just isn’t that good

  • 8 toon kk // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:28 AM

the red card card on Mitrovic was a matter of opinion, but which ever it was its still a nasty foul, and its not his first, so refs will be watching him.
Had an Arsenal player fouled one of our lads the same, we’d want him sent off.

  • 9 Blofal // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:28 AM

    Maybe Cisse is leaving!

  • 10 Blofal // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:29 AM

“Hamburg are lining up former Werder Bremen midfielder Aaron Hunt as a replacement for Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who is reportedly wanted by Newcastle United.

According to the Hamburger Morgenpost newspaper, the Magpies have made the northern Germany club an offer they cannot refuse for the 23-year-old, who was only on the bench for their defeat to Cologne at the weekend.”

  • 11 Toon-Prodigy // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:34 AM

Reading about Gouffran going for 4.2 mil to Hull or Boro. God knows how he is valued at that.

  • 12 WWSBRD // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:35 AM

Would rather Austin than Lasogga who seems to of struggled since his move became permanent only hot 4 goals since he turned us down, I do like Germans though

  • 13 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:38 AM

Charlie, if that’s the case, let’s give them hostile like we used to do. 🙂 We can make SJP a fortress and if other people – be they players or pundits – don’t like it, then it means we’ve got it right. Did they expect respectful applause for Marriner after his display? How many times will Mitrovic’s tackle be shown in the future, yet Shaw’s wasn’t even mentioned? For some reason we’ve become the team – and fans – the pundits hate, so let’s not disappoint them. We’re entitled to make SJP hostile if it can affect the way visiting teams play ffs, why should anybody complain about that? Instead of whining about us, they should be making an issue of all the cheating and diving that’s allowed – a flagrant abuse of the laws of football.

  • 14 geordie157 // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:45 AM

Oh so the Lasogga talk is back then, how much would he cost?

Still think Austin is the best option with Cisse being offloaded. Although Cisse might be another who benefits from Thauvin being in the side, he certainly will create a lot more than Obertan and Gouffran were!

  • 15 geordie157 // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:46 AM

Derby also so say after Gouffran, 2-3 mill.

  • 16 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:47 AM

One fine day, as someone who attends some of our U21’s and U18’s, I can say that imo he doesn’t play for us because he’s simply not better than what we have. His first touch keeps letting him down. Don’t get me wrong, I picked him out with three others as players with the potential to make it, but despite being the French U19 captain, he’s not ready yet for the PL. Anybody buying him will be buying potential, like we bought Toney recently. Most of this is down to his agent I imagine. If he was good enough, he would be playing. It’s not as if there’s an agenda against French players at the toon! 🙂

  • 17 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:49 AM

Lassoga seems another gamble to me, Riviere mark 2 could happen.

We need a proven goal scorer ready for this league.

Austin is the 1 should they use their heads and make money on Cisse.

  • 20 Jib // Aug 31, 2015 at 10:53 AM

We’re missing the No 10 link man for sure but we’ll not get someone as good beard…SDJ can do that job though and i think because we’ve lost Motrovic we’ll go 4 4 1 1 with Perez up top and SDJ tucked in behind because I think Cisse will go

700k is laughable when we are reported to be getting 4 mil for gouffran

  • 27 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:02 AM

Charlie, as you’ll remember no doubt, there was a time nobody liked to come to SJP because it was hostile. It gave us an edge. If there ever was a ‘twelfth man’, it was the crowd at SJP without question. It would help if we had a proper singing section again and that needs to be addressed upstairs. Once the crowd gets going there’s still nothing like it and a singing section is the catalyst for that. Maybe something that needs addressing at the next fans forum? I suspect Macca would be well in favour of it. Be as hostile as possible and if nobody else likes it – GOOD!

If he goes out on loan we would want him starting week in week out at a decent quality league maybe no team we see as workable wants him?
I don’t know about his agent but it seems like he wants out and has done for awhile now all in all am not that bothered of he leaves. We can’t bring through young players so it’s no real loss

  • 30 Toon-Prodigy // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:07 AM

Cisse will need to be replaced with a proven scorer in this league. This for the future and players with potential needs to stop I think. They are gambles.

6 mil for Cisse is great so long as we bring in Austin and get a good 3-4 yrs out of the lad. Im still trying to get my head around why we havn’t signed him and went for Mitrovic, 20yrs old and untested with alot to learn. Huge gamble this.

I hope it wasn’t to do with wages and we went for the cheaper option because of that. The gambles are still ongoing at the club with foreign imports on cheaper wages rather than proven Premier League players.

There has to be a balance with our recruitment to progress.

  • 31 SUTTY1978 // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:08 AM

JIB, as McClaren has been rigid with his 4231 formation, you wouldnt see both of them on the pitch even if we did sign him.
I would view the purchase of Lassoga in the same way i did Thauvin, waste of money for a woefully out of form player that has only ever had one good season.
Carr seems to get off on buying players that no-one else wants, not even their current clubs in a lot of cases. Lassoga hasn’t been on the bench because of interest in him, he’s been there because he’s poor.

  • 32 why oh why // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:10 AM

Mitrovic is a top top player now not future NOW
Tha lad just needs to settle. Teams will fear him
He will get goals and entry of them

  • 33 WWSBRD // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:11 AM

Kemen is having a medical at Lyon apparently that’s that then

  • 34 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:13 AM

One fine day, I agree he should be out on loan, but sadly I don’t get to make that decision 🙂 If it was down to me, both him and Arma would have gone out last season to gain experience. The problem right now is that we have so many midfielders that the likes of Kemen struggle to make an impact from the reserves. Sadly, some players have to move on from their parent club in order to make it and this may turn out to be the case for Kemen. Not that he’s not up to it potentially, but he’s impatient – naturally – and wants first team games now. How he’d hope to get them at Spurs or Liverpool is beyond me, but maybe abroad? Time will tell I suppose.

  • 35 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:14 AM

The best atmosphere was before the powers that be put the singing section from the Leazes End into the Gallowgate. When both ends had singers they were able to bounce songs of each other and also try to out sing each other. and when they were on the same hymn sheet/song the noise use to veberate around the ground.

Good idea to bring it up at the Fans Forum

  • 36 bettyswallocks // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:15 AM

This Lasogga story could have some legs. We seem to be buying players that Carr has scouted thoroughly and he fits into that bracket.

Cisse can score when it’s put on a plate for him but his first touch is a joke and he’s no good as a lone striker. Mc must realise that by now.

  • 37 Essex Geordie Bill // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:18 AM

Lasssoga looks a better player than Van Dost from what I’ve seen of him.

I reckon he’d be an improvement to the squad but I seriously can’t see it happening, I think we’ve done all of our buying.

I see Sheffield Wednesday have made a £10m offer for somebody, how can they afford that kind of money.

  • 38 cyprus // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:19 AM

Did you notice that if you had described the team’s top 7 instead of top 5 you would’ve included Mitro? 🙂

  • 39 Essex Geordie Bill // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:23 AM

I hope the Kemen decision doesn’t come back to bite us in the *rse, similar to the Chelsea decision re. DeBruyne.

Incidentally I see that Lua Lua is having a great spell with Chris at Brighton, another one we should have kept?

  • 40 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:25 AM

Charlie, agreed on the leazes issue. When level 7 was in full voice it drowned out the away fans and then spread across the whole ground. The roof on level 7 also helps to capture the noise, so I’d go for that again. Shame they can’t fill level 7 with safe standing, with maybe a slight reduction in price for those offering to pump up the volume?

  • 41 Jib // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:26 AM

In just about every interview McClaren mentions the crowd being the 12th man , so one would assume he’s be amenable to the revival of singing sections.
When listening to Supermac you get the impression that a lot of the shite introduced in Llambias’ reign would have been vetoed if Steve had been here.

  • 42 WWSBRD // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:29 AM

How long has Lua Lua been at Brighton mate? Taken him a long time to even get into their squad there was no chance he would of gotten into ours

Sheffield Wednesday are planning to be back in the prem in 2017 if not earlier. Owner is prepared to pay out to get there.

  • 44 SUTTY1978 // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:30 AM

Has anyone noticed that when McClaren talks he doesn’t seem to be able to formulate full sentences, only snippets? Its really weird to listen to, not sure if this is a hangover from his time in Holland to try and make it easier to understand.

  • 45 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:31 AM

Jib, that’s why I mentioned the forum. I’m sure we could get Macca on board re the singing section, because, as you point out, he’s all for noise and hostility within the ground. He can then work on Ashley. Maybe Ed can get up an online petition going? 🙂

  • 46 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 31, 2015 at 11:35 AM

Yeah it was a stupid thing moving the singing in the Leazes End to the Gallowgate as far to often now you can here the opposition fans drowning the TOON out.

Kemen and de Bruyne are totally different scenarios
KdB had played 2 seasons (nearly 100 games) in the Belgian league for Genk before he went to Chelsea where he flopped .

The anti Ashley songs was the reason that did the rounds and maybe that was so, but times change. Ashley got abuse because of the way he ran the club and no other reason. If he continues to invest in this manner and leaves football matters to football people then there would be no reason to blame him for the wrongs he committed in the past. I never expected him to stand up and take full responsibility for the disasters that nearly sent us down, but he did. The visible evidence points to changes for the better and in time he might win the fans appreciation if he delivers on his promises. That will, of course, take time. Reopening the level 7 singing section could go a long way towards healing the wounds he inflicted on the club through his misunderstanding of football. It’s always worth trying.

I think it’s clear why we are not going after Austin and why we shouldn’t. We play a rigid 4231 formation and the front player has to lead the line and be able to hold the ball up. Austin is not great at that he’s better than cisse don’t get me wrong but both players would be pretty useless in our current team. It’s not hard to imagine that Newcastle will be a better all round proposition with Mitrovic up top, he is the better footballer. It would sseem a bit odd if the club didn’t expect Cisse would be unhappy about it. I suppose they’ll just hold him to his contract and tell him they expect him to be a professional, at least you’d hope so. But really, other than sticking it away, which he does well, and is of course no small thing, although he has hardly reliably and consistently for a number of reasons, he offers little else to a team, that has needed more from its centre forward. Mitrovic offers that, if he can curb his temper. I’m also a bit disappointed in Cisse if he’s indeed throwing his toys out, particularly you might argue his undisciplined suspension last year almost sent us down.

  • 63 Graeme // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:16 PM

Nufc83 – surely you base your tictacs on the players you have available, rather than enforce a set formula. Cisse couldn’t hold the ball up long enough to make the system work – so a decent manager would change the system. If that means switching to 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 then so be it.
With Nitro banned for 3 games, Mac surely needs to have a re-think simply to get the best out of what we have available with Cisse back in his role of No9!!

  • 64 Macas // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:17 PM

Can’t believe anyone is comparing the Mitrovic tackle with Luke Shaw’s. Ayew slides in at pace underneath Shaw, the two are totally different. Our clumsy dumb striker puts his studs into someone who is standing still, after the ball has long gone. Might not have been deliberate but still a really bad tackle.

  • 65 jimmysmith // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:20 PM

I’ll try again. It’s not hard to imagine that Newcastle will be a better all round proposition with Mitrovic up top, he is the better footballer. But it would also sseem a bit odd if the club didn’t expect Cisse would be unhappy about it. I suppose they’ll just hold him to his contract and tell him they expect him to be a professional, at least you’d hope so. Mitrovic offers that, if he can curb his temper. I’m also a bit disappointed in Cisse if he’s indeed throwing his toys out, particularly considering you might argue his undisciplined suspension last year played no small part in almost sending us down.

  • 68 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:25 PM

We need to be careful not to push young Perez any further down the pecking order. He was a revelation last season, considering he was ‘one for the future’ and he needs encouraging to improve on that. He has a better touch than Cisse anyway and neither are hold the ball up types, so he doesn’t lose much there. Cisse has been a good player but he’s unlikely to improve now, whereas young Perez has his whole future ahead of him. We don’t want anybody who doesn’t want to be here, it just causes problems. If we bring in another striker, Cisse has to leave, or we risk alienating Perez, who clearly has a good future. Cisse isn’t good enough to hold the club to ransom with threats. Either stay and work for your place, or do one. Nobody has the divine right start for Newcastle, including Cisse.

  • 69 Graeme // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:26 PM

There is also now talk that we are trying to bring in Lassoga from Hamburg. I think we tried to sign him last year, so he has obviously been well scouted in the past. €10 million being quoted!!

4 games, no wins. Your prediction’s still on.

Colo is like Ivanovic for being a liability. Surely Jose will get shot of him this window, or at least get a better player in?

  • 76 Jib // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:40 PM

Cissé out Lasogga in is fine .
Just about every first team place has at least 2 similar players vying for it now.
In his latest interview McClaren stated that everyone at the club had to think with a squad mentality.

  • 77 hibbit // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:41 PM

if i had the choice austin or lassogga i would take austin every time if they come from another league most on here tend to over rate them its always a big step up austin has made that step

  • 78 Reyantoon // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:42 PM

Lassoga will be a good addition.Don’t know him that well but he has a good height. We should release Cisse. No doubt he is a proven scorer but his time is up interms of strength and work rate.
He is 30 for gods sake and only get weaker injury prone and inconsistent.

    On the subject of the way we play;
Absolutely no need to change. Most of our tackles were spot on under the new coaching setup. We don’t usually play tackling and physical game under old setup but we need it at times, esp when we play against ball possessing team.If we didn’t had done that against Arsenal,
the score line would have been higher. Our tackles were aimed at getting the ball.Arsenal players just overreacted and were action full. were lucky as they’re well assisted by the Moron Mariner.Very excited the way we played and fair play to McLaren and the coaching team!!

  • 79 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:45 PM

Dermot Gallagher on SKY says Mariner got Mitrovic tackle spot on.

Studs up, hits below the knee, rakes down shin and onto foot. I can’t imagine anyone would be happy to see any of our lads take that from any player. The whole crowd would see red.

  • 80 jimmysmith // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:47 PM

Mitrovic was a better outlet in the one one full game he’s played, one where we had 25% percent possession, than I’ve ever seen from Cisse. He has good control, gets the ball out of his feet early, and has an awareness of where others are, and plays it early. He is a target man. Cisse is a finisher. And I think we need a target man first and foremost, but obviously he has to stay on the park.

  • 81 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:49 PM

B&B, it’s difficult not to, as they’re both striving for the same position. They are different types of players, but unlike Thauvin and Janmaat, they’re both forwards so your comparison is flawed and pointless. I’m saying who I would keep and why, not comparing the two. I’d keep Perez happy because he’s one for the future and lose Cisse if he’s not happy to stay and fight for his place. Should Cisse be given the role because he threatens to

  • 82 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:51 PM

We nearly got relegated last season and have added only three good players in Mbemba, Wijn and Thauvin. All the other teams have had TV money and strengthened. We need to spend another £30m at least IMO. Most of that should go on a top striker.

  • 83 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:52 PM

Mitrovic is a prime wally and Graham Carr must be feeling nervous that he may have blown a large wad of generous Mike’s cash.

Aside from his indiscipline he hasn’t shown a shred of footballing ability other than a single header, so far.

  • 84 why oh why // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:54 PM

    There window closes tonight
They are in the procces of signing a replacement
Once that is done lessogga will sign for us
He very sure one this he had no doubts
But we are nufc so u never know what’s around the corner

  • 85 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:54 PM

There’s something very wrong if the manager sees Perez as striving for Cisse’s position or vice versa. Cisse is a No9. Perez is most definitely not.

  • 86 jimmysmith // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:55 PM

That’s rubbish. His temperament is questionable, his ability isn’t.

  • 87 nufconceandfuturekings // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:58 PM

    The ‘nays’ are Sunderland fans.

  • 88 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:59 PM

    Hail Wor Ashley
That’s my take on it so far.

Our recruitment team isn’t good enough. A poor relegation haunted squad with only three decent additions. Budget spent. Second bottom.

I’m sure many of the views on here come from sheer loyalty and unchecked optimism.

  • 89 hibbit // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:59 PM

jimmy smith how many games have you seen him play never got started on saturday looked lost and out of his depth

  • 90 cyprus // Aug 31, 2015 at 12:59 PM

I admit I can’t judge mitro because I can’t recall an attacking move with him. So let’s wait. So many teams were after him, there must be something there.

Rooney was a bigger thug when he emerged. I’m OK there. Just don’t get caught 😉

  • 91 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:00 PM

Its difficult to see how good our team is until we play teams we should be beating which funnily enough are West Ham and Watford who we play next !

Cisse needs to get a grip every time there has been competition for his place he ends up playing shite hes on a good contract he needs to play unless we get another premiership goal scorer

  • 92 JackButler // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:01 PM

Ed you should run a poll on how many red cards we are gonna pick up this season 🙂

  • 93 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:02 PM

What’s his ability? What can he do? What has he done? Blistering pace? Tricky dribbler? Fox in the box? I’ve seen one good header and some average hold up play.

  • 94 eaststandgeordie1982 // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:05 PM

I agree we need players that want to be here and fight for their place in the team thats what we have needed for years not sulkers we need a squad not individuals and we will move forward.

  • 95 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:06 PM

So Perez hasn’t been played as a striker then? Neither Perez or Cisse is a hold the ball up player imo, but both are attackers. Not all strikers need to be 6′ 4″, it depends how you play them. Aguero being a fine example. Perez is good with the ball at his feet facing his opponents, rather than holding the ball up – as is Cisse for that matter. Perez offers more pace and can score goals. He sees himself as a forward, but unlike Cisse, is prepared to knuckle down and play wherever the manager wants him to play. Cisse is now making demands when the man who replaced him can’t play for three games – yeah, proper team player then. For the sake of the squad as a whole, Cisse or Perez is a no brainer imo.

  • 96 JackButler // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:07 PM

The last few days have been an eye opener on here

    Mitrovic is pure class!
It was not a red card, not even a booking!
Arsenal should not have had a pen it was a dive!
Refs are out to get us!
It’s an FA conspiracy to make sure the same teams do well every year so they don’t leave and form a European Super League!

Head shaking is in repeat node

  • 97 jimmysmith // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:08 PM

He was on the pitch for fifteen minutes against top opposition but he was hardly lost, he was putting himself about, obviously too much ultimately. And I watched him closely for 90 away at Man U and he was very impressive. He is twenty and has already achieved plenty at the highest level. He is a good player. I find any rush to negatively judge him reactionary nonsense.

  • 98 reilly // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:09 PM

how can anyone on here judge mitro after a few games, plus we have been defending as a team so mitros been feeding off the odd balls into the box.
its not as if maccas been setting up the squad to play to mitros strengths is it.

  • 99 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:09 PM

It’s easy to look physically impressive against defenders in the Belgian league, in the more aggressive PL where the defenders are finely-tuned athletes trained for and used to a more physical style, upping the ante in his own training regimen to regain that edge his game relied on is purely down to him, but currently he has been matched and bettered when trying to hold the ball up and when he has won it his passing has been hit and miss (he instigated the chance for Walcott with a wayward pass on the halfway line) and touch haven’t been anything special.

Needs to shape up fast. His contribution so far has been a definite net negative and we can’t afford to waste that kind of money.

  • 100 Lynny // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:12 PM

Was never a red in a decade of Sunday’s. That aside his effort so far has been top notch. He will deliver

  • 101 TheToonKing // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:12 PM

I would be very very very surprised if we sign another striker this window.

  • 102 JackButler // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:12 PM

He’s being judged on what he’s done so far, which apart from making himself a marked man is not a lot, granted he’s had little to work with but the majority of what he has done is negative

  • 103 eaststandgeordie1982 // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:15 PM

I think macca is doing it right we used to roll over just about every game, he has us working as a unit and helping each other defend once we have that worked out im sure they will start more on our attacking play. We are starting from scratch and the best form of attack is to defend and we have been terrible at that as a team and is good to see ys fighting for each other.

  • 104 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:16 PM

His effort and closing down has been overstated too. He’s jogged around most of the time and doesn’t even seem fit enough to really press with any intent. Perez is a good example of a player that really runs himself in to the ground and forces mistakes.

  • 105 reilly // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:17 PM

instead of judging mitro, start judging macca for the way hes setting up the team, colback and anita dont work in the middle they play the ball sideways or back,so there is no threat going forward to help out our loan striker.

  • 106 jimmysmith // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:17 PM

Take a look at the sending off again, and pay attention to the way Mitrovic wins control of the ball under pressure and controls into space, just for a start. It was first class and Cisse for all his goal scoring acumen couldn’t do that in a month of Sundays.

  • 107 JackButler // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:19 PM

We’ve been way to easy to beat for far to long but now we are a different proposition. It takes time to get to where you want to go but starting from the back is the right thing to do? SM just needs time to marry defence with attack and with all the changes that have happened over the summer we will be inconsistent for a while but I think we will come good

  • 108 jimmysmith // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:20 PM

That header was also incredible. He fair rattled the bar, with the keeper nowhere, from between the eighteen yard line and the spot.

  • 109 JackButler // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:23 PM

Watch the sending off again and see how he rakes his studs down the players shin!

  • 110 Rotonda heights // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:23 PM

6 red cards at age 20 is appalling and where was this bull about players being vetted for good character! An overweight thug and headcase are easy conclusions to make thus far.

Nitro’s made his name in a poor Belgium league. I just don’t get the hype. Hasn’t remotely looked like scoring yet (one good header apart).

Albeit we are still playing containing football and not playing to players’ strengths. We still looked a man down before Mitro did his thing.

  • 111 eaststandgeordie1982 // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:24 PM

They way we played was never like a team and we are starting to look like a team that is being coach the right way, its going to take time and when your changing the way we are you are going to get games like swansea now and then.

  • 112 Nufc-83 // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:24 PM

Hail wor you are a grade A clown!!
What has mitro done wrong on his limited service, he hasn’t had a chance to show us his main assets in the box. He played well against Man U at the things he could influence and do none of which

  • 113 Nufc-83 // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:24 PM

    Was his main attributes

  • 114 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:25 PM

The facts are that some players slip into the PL very easily – as three of our new signings have proven – whilst others take a while to adapt. Mitrovic has scored goals at CL level, so he’s far from being a waste of money. I think his timing is still out, hence the lateness of some of his tackles. Had he got there a split second sooner, they would have been great tackles. He needs to work on his reaction times for sure, but good coaching will repair that. He was bought for his goals and so far hasn’t really had a chance to show what he can do for a number of reasons. He’s still a kid and will come good imo, but unlike the others, needs a bit of time to adjust. People talk about proven PL players, but our other three had no PL experience, yet you wouldn’t know it from watching them. All down to a bit of fine tuning I reckon. He’ll come good, given time.

  • 115 JackButler // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:28 PM

Agree mate, it’s not the prettiest thing to watch for the purist but it’s brilliant to see us dig in and fight for everything, I honestly believe that I’d Carver or Pardew were here we wouldn’t have a single point as we would not have come back against Southampton, Man Utd would have crushed us as would Arsenal. Swansea are overlooked by a lot of fans on here, they are a solid well drilled side and are years ahead of us, but we are heading in the right way imo

  • 116 Macas // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:28 PM

jimmysmith – The header was incredible? He missed!

  • 117 jimmysmith // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:31 PM

What’s the matter with you blokes. Why the rush to criticise a twenty year old with the ability to be the centre forward we haven’t had since Demba Ba.? He was rash, he got himself sent off. That’s the extent of it. I’m glad McClaren doesn’t share your attitude.

  • 118 eaststandgeordie1982 // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:32 PM

its easy to see we are going in the right direction to many want instant change it doesn’t work like that especially how bad and disorganised we were from coaches down and above in that matter. 2 points is 2 points more than i thought we would have. Time to get behind the lads and give them time, agree about swansea they are a very good team and very organised.

  • 119 lochinvar // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:32 PM

Based on the Ashley business model Cisse is the past and Mitro is the future.
What happens in between ( the now ) is what bothers me.

Van Dijk it seems is off to Southampton ( so do we have another CB plan ? ) while Austin is being suggested for Chelsea to warm the bench ( or is that another Red Herring ) so what happens to Remy ?

So we have another 24 hours or so of crazy transfer nonsense to endure.
I’m going for a lie down.

  • 120 jimmysmith // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:33 PM

It was a great header and we need players like mitro in the team just need to make him kerb his violence haha, we have needed a striker who puts him self about we have had players that are to nice for to long, the main problem with willo is that he is to nice to be a cb.

  • 123 Nufc-83 // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:37 PM

Sorry for the mumbled English lol

  • 124 Bobbybee // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:42 PM

Jimmy, agreed mate, not all great headers or shots find the back of the net, but his technique was first class. That alone shows he has the ability to be a great striker. He’s 20 year old and a bit hot headed – who wasn’t at that age? He’s trying a bit too hard to impress, that’s all. These three matches he has to watch from the stands might make him think a bit more. He’ll learn quickly how far he can go hopefully and reign it in a bit.

  • 125 JackButler // Aug 31, 2015 at 1:44 PM

Anyone seen anything of Lasogga apart from what’s on the Dennis Wise Scouting Network?
