We’ve seen a report like this last week, and today there are a number of reports saying that Alan Pardew is again trying to raid his former club, and this time left-back Paul Dummett is the target.
Paul has been injured all season, and is just coming back in training, and he will then challenge Sadio Haidara for the starting position at left back.
Paul Dummett in action against West Ham last season
The fact that Paul can also play at center-half, surely means Newcastle will not be willing to sell the home town youngster.
It doesn’t surprise us that Alan Pardew is a fan of the player he introduced into the Newcastle first team over two and a half years ago, and gave him a long contract last year.
Paul made his debut for Newcastle back in January of 2013 at Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup – a game we lost 2-0.
The fee Newcastle want for Dummett is said to be £8M, but Steve McClaren will be keen to take a look at Paul when he returns from his hamstring problems.
He could be fit enough to be considered for our next game at West Ham a week next Monday.
But we’d be very surprised if Newcastle are willing to sell the local lad leave, since we are already short of full backs.
Paul, plus Daryl Janmaat and Sadio Haidara are the only specialist senior full-backs at the club, and Dummett can also play at right back.
He’s played 51 times for Newcastle with two goals, and is a Welsh International, and a graduate of the Newcastle United Youth Academy.
There’s no way we should be selling Paul Dummett today.
What do you think?

Comment #41Bills-son I’d love to know where you gleaned your 8 out of 10 stars they look awfully like you made them up and exaggerated them.
As for Dummett, if he needs a lift I could sort one out for him.

Mbemba has played at fullback. I’d hardly call him experienced.
No way should we sell Dummett to anyone.

Comment #47no way £8m for Dummett and £4m for Gouf is realistic.
If so, is there anyone that wouldnt do that deal and pay 12M for a CB????? our incoming transfer window is shut, locked and boarded up. gouf can go for whatever, as much of a rip off 8m for dummet is, we need him. We have no cover.

Comment #49Bills-son, good point. Plety on here know little except Football Manager. We also moaned that we wanted that Liverpool centre half ( Sakho? ) but he wasnt great either. That said I dont trust Carr like I used to, not at all.

It’s a highly respected database which uses expert scouts to assess players ability.
The difficulty with using FM’s database is some people see Player X is quicker, stronger and a better finisher than Player Y based on the stats and presume he is therefore better. They ignore the players mentality, composure, stamina etc which seperates a talented player from a great player.
I bet if you threw Gary Neville’s stats when he was playing up there he would lose out to the vast majority of right backs.
It will show that player X is quicker, stronger and a better tackler and people presume he is better than player Y with lower stats; however it also monitors players mentality which is just as important if not more so. Using this to judge players is beneficial purely for indicative purposes. It is never used as a sole source of information.
As far as the players potential which is the usual criticism FM receive. That is usually an educated guess. How young the player is, how talented he looks, how much room is there to grow etc. People slate them for getting it wrong; however guessing if a person will live up to his potential is impossible.
