Newcastle Player’s Interview Had Everything

6:53 pm, Monday, September 7th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 54 Comments

Newcastle’s French International Moussa Sissoko gave a long interview to France Football yesterday, while he’s on International duty with France, and there have been many different reports on what he said in that interview, and depending on what you were looking for – you could find it.

There were bits in it for Newcastle supporters which sounded very positive towards Newcastle:

“I am at Newcastle, and I have the chance to play every weekend, to evolve in a fantastic stadium.”

“Now, in my opinion, it was a very good recruitment for Newcastle this summer.” “There is a great team this year to have a good Premier League season.”

There were bits in it when he said again he wanted to join a Champions League club:

“I am in Newcastle, but it is not a club of the big four in England.”  “What I miss is to play in the leading roles (eg Champions League).”

“It could have been a good time to leave this summer.”  “There have been discussions with the club, who said they were against a departure. Yes, there were offers from other clubs, but Newcastle vetoed.”

And there was even a bit when he described Crystal Palace as a big club, and bigger than Newcastle United:

“Now, look at those who play my position: there Blaise Matuidi who did extraordinary things to PSG, Paul Pogba which is wonderful to Juventus.”

“Yohan Cabaye who has just signed for Crystal Palace.”  “Morgan Schneiderlin who is now at Manchester United. Compared to me, they all play at big clubs.”

And right at the end of the interview, he was asked about all the big transfers and how much does he think he would be worth in today’s transfer market:

“If I were President of a club, why not 100M (and then he laughed).”

There are a couple of things that come out of the interview for Newcastle:

  • One is Steve McClaren needs to have a quiet word to Moussa about Crystal Palace.
  • The second thing is that Mike Ashley might want to raise his transfer price on Moussa from the £23M he’s valued at right now to  ….. whatever.  100M is around £70M.

But if Moussa has a very good season and Newcastle do well before next May, Moussa would probably be happy enough to stay at Newcastle, and continue to be one of our star players.

Tonight France play Serbia in Belgrade,  so Moussa will come up against his team-mate Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Wonder if the Serbian will pick up another yellow card?

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Ed, if you and Steve are still looking for a CB pair, look at the Cyprus back two. If you find video evidence, you’ll see that they had Bale, Ramsey, Hazard, Benteke, De Bruyne et al, in their pockets!!!

Probably a couple grand a week will seal it.

Palace is bigger than us in the eyes of our “best player”…let that sink in for a bit

  • 3 Bobbybee // Sep 7, 2015 at 7:08 PM

Yup, he definitely needs to keep it shut. Time to put a gag on him.

  • 4 Toon-Prodigy // Sep 7, 2015 at 7:10 PM

    Jib,

This has been going on a canny while with Sissoko, Colo had his head turned aswell by Palace aswell in the Summer.

Because of our lack of ambition under Ashley I think the mentality is quite clear within the squad. Small club, no ambition, just a stepping stone to better things. It’s no wonder we have been flirting with relegation with attidudes like this but the regime has caused it.

I hope it has all changed now with the changes made since the end of last season.

Maybe someone should have a word with Sissoko and

    a) tell him all of these players have earned their bigger move (all but Cabs) and

    b) teach him some geographic cause he must have confused Palace with another club

Extremes of opinion can make for an interesting read. Macca has arguably had a good look at the playing strength and as the season unfolds, fans might well have to revise their thinking on certain players. Already Tim Krul is being spoken of as a first class goalkeeper again – maybe simply because he’s played behind a steady well organised defence. In the team concept all Individuals should not be viewed in isolation.
Mike Williamson is limited. His plus points are that he’s a big lad who is a trier, A player who can attack the ball in the air. I am aware that there are those who question this ability but he has more of a physical presence than most. In recent seasons we’ve capitulated far too often through having the likes of Mbiwa and Coloccini at CB and arguably still have not solved this obvious deficiency in the squad. I personally would rather Mike wasn’t a first choice but we do still need a big uglyon tap who can handle the rough and tumble. In the horses for courses PL maybe he will be more than a fourth-choice CB. As with Tim Krul, Williamson also played under Carver in a poor defence bereft of confidence. Coloccini when playing didn’t come in for anything like the stick that came Williamson’s way. Maybe we just love a scapegoat.

Although I can imagine the palace thing has been muddled in translation, he definitely needs a word from Macca. These interviews are too often and too needy to do anybody any good. He needs advice on how many other decent players have left us to just warm a bench. He’s not as good as he appears to believe he is, that much is for certain.

  • 8 Toon-Prodigy // Sep 7, 2015 at 7:21 PM

    Bobby,

I agree with that, he is no where near as good as he is making out. Because he is getting a game for France he is automatically putting himself in the same pool of those players.

He will warm the bench, he simply isn’t good enough to start for any top 4 club in England. Not sure about anywhere else.

He will sit on the bench aswell because his wages will double. He will do a Cabaye, sit on the bench for a year, then come back to a middle tier club who WILL give him his 80k a week.

Reet, time for work, catch yas in a bit.

  • 9 Bobbybee // Sep 7, 2015 at 7:41 PM

Ian, maybe doesn’t come into it matey! There always appears to be one player who suffers more than other from the boo boys. I’d never boo Willo simply because he always gives 100%, regardless of his limited talent.

  • 10 Ian Toon // Sep 7, 2015 at 7:44 PM

I read the paper version earlier in the day. The link with Palace and Cabaye is by the journalist who says Moussa will be competing with his former colleague for a place in Deschamps midfield.
The reference “by comparison to being at a smaller club” relates to Pogba, Matuidi and Scneiderlin” – And not to Cabaye and Palace.
Calm down dears or those Southern softies will think we’re just a “wee club in the north-east”.

  • 11 mactoon // Sep 7, 2015 at 7:45 PM

He mentioned ‘big clubs’ as the reason why he keeps getting substituted for France. He feels other players in his position are getting more minutes on pitch than he does, the reason for that is that he doesn’t perform consistently enough for us to deserve a full game for France. The reference to Cabaye is a false positive.. he left Newcastle for PSG were he wasn’t good enough to get a first team place in a big club. The fact he had to go to Palace doesn’t mean he is now at a bigger club than Newcastle, it jst means he had to take a step down to get a game. McClaren should tell him to shut the fuck p and play good enough consistently to EARN a full game for France. Nuff said

  • 12 GEORDIE69 // Sep 7, 2015 at 7:46 PM

As for Sissoko’s comment about Cabaye, I think he was probably refering to PSG when he meant a big club not Palace! Find me one Palace fan who thinks that they are bigger than us, no chance! Not even Pardew.

  • 13 Novocastrian66 // Sep 7, 2015 at 7:48 PM

The sooner we get rid of him the better in my view. He obviously isn’t commuted to our righteous cause, he believes the grass is greener elsewhere. He needs to realise his biggest problem isn’t the club he plays for but himself.

  • 14 Bobbybee // Sep 7, 2015 at 7:49 PM

Right, good luck to the two Irish teams tonight, hope both make it. Gonna watch Scotland have that last hope extinguished myself. Such a shame.

  • 15 Ian Toon // Sep 7, 2015 at 7:50 PM

Bobby bee- I notice that Sky are increasingly showing under 21 games. Is there a programme schedule of future televised games?
Good to see we can still beat ManU at one level!

  • 16 Jail for Ashley // Sep 7, 2015 at 8:06 PM

I would say it pretty certain that he was refering to Cabaye’s time at PSG

  • 17 welshgeordie9 // Sep 7, 2015 at 8:13 PM

    Any news on Charlie Austin.

  • 18 WWSBRD // Sep 7, 2015 at 8:19 PM

Ah fair doos if he meant PSG I take my complaint back

  • 19 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 7, 2015 at 8:32 PM

Fair play to the Jocks. Really giving it a go.

  • 20 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 7, 2015 at 8:42 PM

    Was it something i said?

  • 21 Bobbybee // Sep 7, 2015 at 8:46 PM

Half time -2-2 surprisingly. Ian, I’m sure there must be an U21’s schedule somewhere mate. We’ve been featured once I think – one that I can remember anywhere. Should be a decent game on friday night and worth the effort. Free for ST holders and only 3 quid for others. Good entertainment for that price without the stress! There’ll be some decent players on both sides.

  • 22 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 7, 2015 at 8:50 PM

    Both irelands are 0-0

  • 23 Bobbybee // Sep 7, 2015 at 8:57 PM

Not seen just seen the text commentary on Sky Sports looks like it was a volley from a cross though

Something which we need to be doing more is delivery into the box for him and Cisse !!

  • 33 BandB // Sep 7, 2015 at 9:10 PM

Great goal by Mitrovic. He’ll soon be knocking them away for us….very exciting to see.
Once he starts he won’t stop.

  • 34 Bobbybee // Sep 7, 2015 at 9:12 PM

Get to see it later no doubt. Well, that’s what Thauvin has been bought for. It’s why I’d like to see De Jong play more as well – he can pick a player out.
