Steve McClaren has just announced the Newcastle team for the important game at West Ham United tonight.

Newcastle: Krul, Janmaat, Mbemba, Coloccini (c), Haidara, Colback, Anita, Sissoko, Wijnaldum, Thauvin, Cisse
Subs: Darlow, Lascelles, Gouffran, Obertan, Aarons, de Jong, Perez

As expected Papiss Cisse for Aleksandar Mitrovic is the only change to the side that did so well last time out against Arsenal, when we played with 10 men for 74 minutes of that game.

And Yoan Gouffran makes the bench tonight with Jamaal Lascelles also in for Steven Taylor as a sub.

Seems like McClaren is trying to give different players some time on the bench.

Former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll is on the bench for West Ham.

This is what Steve McClaren has said about tonight’s opponents West Ham:

“There’s a lot of frustration out there with teams not reaching the level they want but hopefully after the break, I think we’ll start to see a greater amount of consistency,”

“Looking around the league, you see a lot of teams struggling to find consistency and West Ham are certainly one of them.”

“It’s difficult to judge West Ham, especially at this stage of the season, as you just don’t know what side will turn up. They’ve had two great away performances but they’ve been disappointing at home so, much like us, they’ll go into the game looking to prove a point,”

“The international break has given us the chance to go away and reflect on our start to the season and now we’re back, we can really start to push on.”

“This is where the season properly starts, now with the transfer window out of the way we can really get down to business and show what we’re all about.”

There’s a decent amount of confidence from Newcastle fans – 80% think we can take something out of this game.

The will be Newcastle’s last visit to Upton Park – let’s hope we can come away with a win.

Update – Newcastle arrived at Upton Park at 7:10 pm tonight but they were 40 minutes late due to London traffic – we must make a strong start to the is game and cannot be caught asleep.
