    Sir Eric

Like you, I have faith in Charlie Austin, faith that he would’ve been MoM had he been at the club.

One of the few players who has punched above his weight, pound for pound, makes his own luck, wants to win something.
I’m trying to figure out the great leaps forward that have reduced him to a sub.

a europa league season with a panic buying transfer when the players bought will usually be those other teams are wanting to get rid of any way and then a full season of no incomings at all and then a transfer window of more poor and young players has caught up with us and the one thing these don’t have which championship promoted teams do have is team spirit.

  • 9 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:25 PM

best player by a mile Perez least he tried something
    Colback woeful
That team has RELEGATION written all over it.
Reason- cannot score goals teams know how to play us let us have the ball up to edge of box hit us on the break.
then sit back and let us play all-around – NO PENETRATION NOWT!!!!!! CLUELESS.
Be lucky if we score 10 goals by Christmas and have 10 points.
SORRY the football might be better but the result is the same

  • 10 manxpie // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:26 PM

  • 13 Bri // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:26 PM

How about Krul taking free kicks and corners for a change ? Oh forgot he’s also crap at distributing the ball also.

  • 14 Blofal // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:27 PM

We had a poor pre season. Our CB pairing played their first game together against Southampton! And prior to today only 2 games without 10 men. So McClaren I think is still trying to work out our best team.

Cisse is diabolical up front. His runs don’t create space for our midfield to attack into and he can’t hold up the ball.

If we have a striker pressing the defence it creates space for players like Wijnaldum and Sissoko to move into. That is why they were so quiet tonight because it didn’t happen.

Colback and Anita provided no forward momentum passing only sideways or backwards. That meant our only attacking outlet came from our fullbacks – both of whom had a an average/poor final ball that did not trouble West Ham.

De Jong looked good and was trying to create. As was Perez. Both need to start the next game and I think they will.

When we play a 4-2-3-1 the opposition tactics are to mark Colback and Anita and push any forward momentum we have out to the boundaries where they can then pressure the ball out of bounds. Our lack of attacking threat shows it works. We need to change it up or the pressure of being at the bottom of the table will have us all turning on each other again and we will be relegated.

  • 15 toonking // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:27 PM

what you can also say is these players aren’t even that good anyway, the dutch national team han’t even qualified for the european championships next year.

The foreigners who are really a much better bunch than english are those who play for south american, spanish and german.

No. It’s not all Carr’s fault. Carr’s simply in a pivotal position at the club and he’s not good enough. Ashley gave him a big contract.

Ashley provided some money. Not enough but some. Carr wouldn’t buy Charlie Austin with it. Unless it was Charnley and he’s making footballing decisions. Shouldn’t think so.

  • 18 midweek weekend // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:28 PM

its true what neville is saying, 50 odd million just isn’t alot anymore, we are simply living in the past, 50 million is great 10 years ago, it’s true the other teams are spending over 20 million on one player, does mike ashley want to spend that kind of money? of course he doesn’t but in the modern game buying these unproven players for 10 million a piece just isn’t enough.

we’re never getting near the top 6 and that’s ok at this moment in time but the most worrying thing is we’re so far behind teams like swansea palace southampton, we haven’t bolted no horse mike seriously we’ve gone nowhere again.

  • 19 Online Guy // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:29 PM

Ayoze Perez should never warm the bench again ..class.

Cisse is a clown and should never wear the shirt again

Colback going through the motions for his wages

De Jong ..Championship standard ..needs a bomb up his Arse

Colocchini ..absolutely pathetic wimpy player,,he’s finished

Sissoko is relied upon to much , he’s trying to Carry a bunch of mercenary’s

    No philosophy or team ethic

We are fractious as a team .

Mike Ashley took us to the depth’s of despair ..both on and of the pitch ..lets never forget that he treat the Club and the supporters in the most offhanded disgraceful uncaring, flippant, dismissive way for 7 years and counting.

forget the £49 million spent ..there was already that amount sitting idle doing nothing for 2 seasons while we plummeted to a near relegation ..he has not done anything that he should have already done.

I will never forgive the B’stard can.

Ashley is the reason why we are in the mess we are in right now …an influx of potential at the start of every season does not make for a settled Team or Club .

  • 20 calvinzolamakongo // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:29 PM

Why has he picked the same team every game bar mitro and cisse does he realise it’s not good enough …we have sdj aarons Perez even tiote what wouldn’t make the team any worse and also he needs to know two dms doesn’t work swear us and spurs are the only team that plays with 2 and we are both shit we need to go back to 433 thauvin Perez aarons moussa tiote wiji

  • 21 Shadow_Shearer // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:30 PM

SM has to change the tactic from 4231 to 352. It gives us an extra man in central defence & an extra man up front. We always have our wingers tracking back. Sooner SM realises this the better.

cisse was a joke,….. no urgency when we were 2-0 down
A five minute spell in 90 is just not good enough, west ham looked a bit bored in the 2nd half. a traing session really . worrying very very worrying.
No complaints when we go down in may..

  • 26 Nufc-83 // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:31 PM

Things i pointed out a few weeks ago and got a lot of people disregarding:
    1) Cisse is uselss and is one of the worst players in the prem.
    2) Unless you have 500M worth of midfielers you cant play with a poacher (even then its debatable).
    3) Perez should be the first name on the teamsheet and is the only player with any quality on the ball.
    4) Haidara is terrible going forward and cant cross to save his life.
    5) Coldback and Anita offer no creativity and cant play a pass longer than 5 yards with no forward thinking.
    6) Krul is average (not shown in this game).

  • 28 GeordieTwo // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:32 PM

Perez was decent and Janmaat pushed forward and tried hard. He has no finish though. But he had shots on goal. Did Cisse? I don’t think so.

  • 29 Online Guy // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:32 PM

And Haidiara is a waste of space getting forward ..crosses are woeful

    Arrons should have started.

  • 30 toonking // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:32 PM

they’ve just shown the the movement of all our midfielders and they are all very slow and it’s summed up when they aren’t getting into the box but nor are they preventing counter attack.

  • 31 WWSBRD // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:32 PM

Not sure it was Carrs decision to run the club down season after season

Personally not sure how anyone outside of the club can judge a scout because we have no idea what their reports say and they don’t sign the players

  • 32 Nufc-83 // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:33 PM

    Next game it should be:
    Jaanmat mbemba colo haidara
    Sissokho Anita Gini Thauvin
    Perez de jong

  • 33 Novocastrian66 // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:33 PM

That was a poor performance without doubt. I honestly do not know what Sissoko offers us. He had a number of opportunities to get crosses into the box but failed. He isn’t a wide midfielder. Cisse cannot play up front on his own and needs support. Systems have to fit players, not the other way round.
I’m not worried at the moment however if we should fail to win on Saturday I will start to get nervous.

  • 34 calvinzolamakongo // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:34 PM

It is literally Anita and colback offer nothing our back 4 is actually good but why do we never leave a player up when we defend corners

  • 35 Online Guy // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:34 PM

Cisse needs to watch Newcastle V Barcelona and watch the positions Tino takes up when playing one upfront

In fact scratch that ..he is nowhere near the class of Asprilla
but he could learn from him . in fact scratch that as well

  • 36 Toonacious T // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:35 PM

When oh when are we all going to wake up to the fact that the majority of our players are sub-standard?

  • 37 Our Toon // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:35 PM

Charlie Austin is shite, stop banging that drum please. He scored at the weekend from a shot which went under the keeper. The bloke was totally anonymous though throughout the game.

Bottom line is cisse ain’t much use by himself and others need to step up to the plate, we have a team with no real leaders and it shows. Btw Leicester made a class comeback yesterday, Mahrez the catalyst, he didn’t track back wasn’t asked to babysit the full back, was very ball greedy looked to always be at his man or 2 sometimes 3 or 4 but he got 2 assists and was MOTM. We hounded out a fella like him last season and won’t ever find another like him

  • 39 Tartantoon // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:36 PM

Gary Neville ….” the central midfield players do not prevent counter attacks and do not create goals”
Nailed it, what exactly are Colback and Anita adding to the team

  • 40 toonking // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:36 PM

the formation has got to change from 4-2-3-1 to 4-4-2.

obatan provide us some of that speed and both he and thauvin attempt to creat chances out wide perez and cisse can assist each other inside the box and colback or sissoko can get ready for them deflections outside the box

  • 41 stuart no9 // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:37 PM

carragher and neville talking like relagation could be on the cards this year . couldnt agree more . It should have happened last year, its only a matter of time

  • 43 Goofy // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:38 PM

Honestly who voted Cisse? Think theres a few Mackems amidst!
    Janmaat. Class
    Mbemba and Colo average
Haidara ran his heart out and showed strrngth
Colback slow needs dropped for a couple
Anita better than Colback but not good enough today
Wini, sissoko, thauvin non existent, west ham walked through our midfield or lobbed it over them, Payat and Moses embarrassed them all
    Cisse fffaaaarrrrttttt! Useless

  • 44 Bri // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:38 PM

  • 45 GeordieTwo // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:38 PM

i hope the love in for anita stops now!
he is the one who is obviously been picked to pick the ball up early and start the attacks and hes been shocking

surely wiji is that guy otherwise he is totally wasted as he never recieves the ball we need to find that number 10 wether its de jong or perez we need to sort it quickly

  • 52 will die for the toon army // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:41 PM

We need a player to drive us in Attack. Sissoko shld either play CM or CAM. Anita and Colback make us so defensive.

That our 4 attacking players have to be so good.

    Thauvin……….Sissoko. ………Perez

  • 53 Belfast // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:41 PM

    4231…. Oot

We cannot play with a striker up front on his own who can’t hold the ball up.

That first touch though absolutely marvellous haha Probably one of the worst I’ve seen at that level. Clubfoot!

  • 54 toon kk // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:43 PM

don’t start blaming S mc yet he’s inherited a very poor squad with NO pace

  • 55 lochinvar // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:43 PM

Why do we pass sideways when in attack or breaking out of defence into attack – just slows the game and allows the opposition to regroup with players behind the ball .
Cisse is history ( thanks for the memories and all that ) but useless ball control, not interested and still learning the offside rule.
Colback definitely off his game compared to some games last season.
Others couldn’t pass into space or ahead of players to run onto which is a basic .
Somehow pretty doesn’t win matches – need some steel from somewhere , anywhere

  • 61 Newcastle for alltid // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:47 PM

    Long post ahead.

I still believe De Jong could be the brain of the team, if he can get a decent run of games. I don`t see him on the training ground every day like Mcclaren does, but give the guy a chance. He did play very well for Ajax. He does have vision, but he`ll never get good working conditions if all he does is getting introduced when we`re several goals down.
Wijnaldum should play deeper than De Jong, in the engine room. Right now it`s too little creativity between Colback and Anita. Play Anita with Wijnaldum (who can defend as well), and there you have the balance. Anita defends reasonably well, and battles, even though he lost his man today. I don`t rate Colback at all. Whoever dubbed him “ginger Pirlo” or whatever has never seen Pirlo in action. Colback might be a local lad, but he doesn`t have the skills required.

Cissè up front is getting old. He`s really past his prime. The natural goalscoring instinct is gone, and he just comes across as clumsy. The ball has a tendency to slip of his boots. Cash in while you can, Ashley.

Another player who annoys the heck out of me is Janmaat. I mean, he gets in a lot of great positions offensively, no doubt. He`s got passion and guts. But he should leave finishing to the strikers and midfielders. His ego in advanced positions just takes over, ruining our effectivity in the final third. It happens time and time again. If he could just cross the ball, pass it to an offensive player, his job in the attack is done.

As for the players we have, what should we expect? A lot of cheap players that we`ve played the waiting game on are the backbone of our squad. If these were truly great players, more ambitious clubs would surely already have them in their side. I do believe in players like De Jong, Wijnaldum, Mbemba, Thauvin (once he gets used to the league), Pèrez, Aarons, Haidara, etc.. but the majority of our squad is, simply put, average players.

We can improve compared to how we look now. It`s just so difficult when the players doesn`t understand basic tactics, and the manager keeps selecting poorly composed sides. Let`s hope he, in time, figures it out.

  • 62 manxpie // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:49 PM

ourtoon did mahrez lose it in the middle of the park?
did he take the same player on 3 times and then put it out for a goal kick countless times?
did leicesters keeper actually do more running than him?
did mahrez say that he doesn’t need to run without the ball?

stop with the ben arfa shit where is he again?
not even leicester signed him or any top team in any league why is that? ask yaself that?!

  • 63 BandB // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:52 PM

Our possession stats are now fab.
I’d like to see Colback manage to actually get possession of the ball, let alone lose it.

  • 64 Toonacious T // Sep 14, 2015 at 10:53 PM

Krul’s kicking is pathetic, Janmaat has NOT been producing any end product for sometime now and picks up cards on a regular basis, Hairdarra is incapable of crossing the ball, Colo’s legs are gone, Anita and Colback are not good enough and produce zero forward momentum, Sissoko doesn’t want to be at Toon anymore and his heart is not in it, Cisse can’t play lone striker, has a horrid first touch and hold up game and can’t even stay on side. Thauvin was anonymous tonight, early days but no real power, pace and not enough guile by the looks of it. De Jong and Perez did well when they came on and Aarons needs game time but how we as a club have went yet another window without buying a tall, strong and pacey CB beggars belief. Another relegation battle ahead and as for targetting a domestic cup, get real.

There is a disease running through the prem now and its the Howard Webb virus ..most Ref’s have contracted it .

He is picking the refs for every prem game now ,.

Iv also noticed that Arsene Wenger is wise to it

Arsenal players play the ref now ..drawing free kicks every 3 mins it ..they go down if the wind turns as you run past them .

IM serious ..other clubs are at it too ..Play the ref

Howard Webb is giving the ref he chooses a pep talk in the week . He’s become a cancer in the game ..Prem ref’s do not want to be demoted to the lower leagues .

You cannot make a Tackle now.

    Colback runs bloody miles.
Which piggy in the middle arrives a signature half a yard too late to prevent Payet picking his spot?
    Carver’s favourite player.

  • 67 toongloom // Sep 14, 2015 at 11:07 PM

Best player? Perez – was on for 20 mins and ran at people. I can’t understand why SM so adamant with anita and Colback as 2 defensive midfielders. Both are carbon copy – except from being shit – can’t pass, go sideways, can’t shoot, hold ball too long…could go on forever.

On Saturday if we are to win. We must move wijaldum cm n drop anita/Colback. Move sdj behind cisse, drop Sissoko n move thauvin to rw. Perez lw. And have a go with tht team.
