Perez And Cisse Start Against Watford

2:02 pm, Saturday, September 19th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 380 Comments

nufc emblemwatford FC

Steve McClaren has just named the team for the important game against Watford at St. James´ Park today, and it looks like there is just one change from the side that lost to West Ham on Monday night – Ayoze Perez in for Vurnon Anita.

So there´s no Siem de Jong or Aarons in the starting line-up, which is a bit of a surprise.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Chancel Mbemba, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Georginio Wijnaldum, Jack Colback; Moussa Sissoko, Ayoze Perez, Florian Thauvin; Papiss Cisse
Subs: Rob Elliot, Jamaal Lascelles, Mike Williamson, Vurnon Anita, Gabriel Obertan, Rolando Aarons, Siem de Jong

It looks like Wijnaldum will take Anita´s place as one of the two holding positions, alongside Jack Colback – so Vurnon is a little unlucky to be the only player dropped after Monday night.

We need to see a lot more from Cisse in this game, and he needs to get a lot better service than he got on Monday night too.

This is what Steve McClaren has said about the game:

“We were very disappointed with the result and the performance on Monday” “The main disappointment was how we reacted to the second goal going in.”

“We picked things up after the substitutions but for about 20 minutes following the second goal there was no response, no urgency and that’s something we’ll be looking to put right.”

“It’s normal to lose games but it’s the way you lose that matters and the way we lost on Monday wasn’t acceptable.” “It is how you respond to that which is important and we’ll look for a good response against Watford.”

“The atmosphere has been unbelievable in the first two home games and we need it to continue on Saturday,” “We’re in a transition period so we need that support to help us get that result and push on.”

“We’re still learning about each other and it’s a learning process, but you need results and we need a reaction against Watford.” “We knew it would be a tough start.”

“It’s going to take time to settle but on Saturday we have the opportunity to move on and get a win on the board.”

Three in five fans think we can win this game.

would rather see sdj than sisse, but at lease perez in and anita dropped. we cant play 6 defenders any more.

  • 2 toonbrother // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:04 PM

truly i say, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for newcastle to win a game with colo in the team

  • 3 Dennis Twice // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:05 PM

    Attack Toon, attack, attack!

  • 4 SUTTY1978 // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:05 PM

    As i predicted

    SUTTY1978 // Sep 19, 2015 at 1:38 PM

Recon Anita out Perez in will be the only change and it will only be made to placate those asking for a change of personnel. Formation will be the same, lack of cutting edge will be the same, result unfortunately will be the same.

  • 5 SUTTY1978 // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:06 PM

Never let it be said that McClaren is predictable!

  • 6 Shadow_Shearer // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:08 PM

Looks more like a 442 with perez & cisse up top. I can’t imagine wijnaldum is gettin dropped deeper. Looks like colback on the defensive duties & wijnaldum picking up & moving forward.

Can’t believe we are not going for a 352

  • 7 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:09 PM

Wonder what the 4231 will look like this time ?

We should actually play a 433 with Perez and Thauvin cutting inside on their strong foot with Sissoko Wijnaldum bombing into the box late on at every opportunity

Such a big game today as we have Chelsea next who look like they are going to beat Arsenal

  • 8 Sliema // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:12 PM

Not enough really. Perez up top and Aarons in would’ve been better, or SDJ even.

  • 9 Shadow_Shearer // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:15 PM

Thauvin should have been dropped for aarons, & SDJ should have got a start

  • 10 SUTTY1978 // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:15 PM

Glad we have a master tactician like McClaren in charge, Watford have no chance now he’s pulled this masterstroke.

  • 11 Jib // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:17 PM

Sutty you only said it 12 minutes ago.
You clearly had seen the team sheet.

  • 12 Bambams // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:19 PM

I said it before the Hammers game and how we attack will be down to how Thauvin plays. He hardly got the ball in the first half but still did very little when he did. It’s still very early for him.
I do not agree with Cisse and I believe this may be his last start for Toon – Mitrovic will be back and hopefully he and Perez will form a partnership.
Cisse is half the player, yes he doesn’t get many chances but he has turned lazy. I have never known a striker be offside as many times.
I hope for a win but think a low score draw.
Sissoko get your bloody act together!

  • 13 Toony Poony // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:19 PM

Absolutely sick and tired of that man Cisse up front. He looks totally clueless, unfit, weak, and technically deficient and has done for a good two seasons now. I for one can’t wait to see the back of him and his three wives. That being said, Cisse will no doubt ”be in the right place in the right time” as the ball cannons off his pea-head and he keeps up that somehow decent goals to games ratio, which he simply does not deserve given his woeful all round play.
Still can’t really believe young Aarons hasn’t had a start, who was by far our best player in pre-season…. for the second year running (new contract?!?!?) The team is crying out for someone with that bit of spark and positivity that Aarons clearly offers. I hope he at least gets a proper run out, though I can see the brolly-wolly already favours half-man-half- octopus Obertan. All that being said I hope we at least play with some balls today, as if we continue like we have been – gutless, careless, clueless – Fat Mike won’t be getting that Prem TV money he so dearly craves! HTL

  • 14 NezzaNUFC // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:20 PM

So again we use the same 4231 and poor form and bad attitude Cisse starts?

    What a joke McClaren is!

SDJ should be in the middle with Perez up top.

  • 15 SUTTY1978 // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:21 PM

This is from the official site

Perez’s inclusion – at the expense of midfielder Vurnon Anita – is the only change from Monday’s defeat at West Ham, although with it comes a slight reshuffle to the Magpies’ ranks.
United are expected to start in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with goalkeeper Tim Krul behind a back four of Daryl Janmaat, Chancel Mbemba, captain Fabricio Coloccini and Massadio Haidara.
Jack Colback and Georginio Wijnaldum should anchor the hosts’ midfield on Tyneside, with a trio of Moussa Sissoko, Perez and Florian Thauvin ahead of them.
And they will be tasked with supplying the ammunition for Papiss Cisse, who goes in search for his first goal since the opening day of the season.

Theres so much wrong with this i dont know where to start. Even the official site shows the negativity of the set up. Two players “anchoring the midfield”. Thats the job they have been told to do. Dont get forward dont get involved, just protect the defence. So we are limited to four players trying to score but hang on lads, three of you dont bother trying to score just try to give it to Cisse, cos he’s so consistent!

  • 16 NezzaNUFC // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:22 PM

  • 19 SUTTY1978 // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:26 PM

    Toony,

McClaren described Rolando as “the new lad Aarons” this week! Did he forget he played for us? Looks like he’s forgotten again!

  • 22 Nufc-83 // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:30 PM

De Jong for cisse my only change.

Paul Simpson has described the formation more of a 433 he said thauvin Perez and cisse up too so it may not be the 4321 you all think.

  • 23 SUTTY1978 // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:31 PM

Nufc83, official Nufc site says 4231

  • 24 NezzaNUFC // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:31 PM

I don’t think McClaren studied Newcastle players at all during the pre season.

Where does Cisse deserve to be in the team?

Well I guess we will have to wait for the excuse if Watford win.

  • 26 ToonDownSouth // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:33 PM

The refereeing this season has been embarrassing – every foul’s a yellow, but outright thuggish antagonistic behaviour goes seen & unpunished. It takes the mick and encourages Chelsea’s dour style of ‘football’ that cost hundreds of millions to produce

    Nufc-83

433 easily converts into a 4231 mate, I stated this a couple of days ago.

Sissoko, Winaldum, Colback will be holding midfielders until Winaldum pushes up.

  • 29 Thump // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:35 PM

@Nezza: Who is the alternative? Perez isn’t a lone striker, and the only other option we have is Riviere (who I think is injured?).

Why SDJ isn’t starting is beyond me, though.

  • 31 NezzaNUFC // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:39 PM

    Thump

Perez can be used as a lone striker though, he has the ability and potential to become an Aguero type player for us.

Plus he doesn’t go missing like Cisse did at WHU and as soon as Perez came on with SDJ the team had changed.

To me I think Perez should be the new number 9 not Cisse or Mitrovic.

couldn’t have said it better, everyday on the streets people will be fined for swearing in anger during a debate with police yet the players can get away with abusive murder and still not be booked.

This consistant rise in yellow cards themselve is where I blame the softies who keep coming across from those weak tackling leagues, as the years go by all this weaker and weaker tackling could see more and more boring football where posession is dominated in the own half whilst the rest of the field run around into the space for the pass.

  • 34 Mister Tuff // Sep 19, 2015 at 2:42 PM

Not sure about starting Cisse – he’ll more than likely do nothing -apart from losing possession time and time again -so everything will break down.
Must be in players mind set not to even embark on running ahead of him when you know more than likely he’ll lose possession and the overlap was for nothing.
I’m going for a scrappy 2 – 1 win -based on the heart and not the head.

Come tell me guys when was the last time Cisse had the ball and ran past players?

I know it’s not his role but he does drop deep to try and help out.

Now I ask the same about Perez?

He gets the ball, gets past his players and looks to bring others in and also opens up play for himself to receive the ball.

@Nezza: I’m not saying it’s outside of his skill set, I’m saying that with our current mode of play, he’d be left isolated for most of the game. We need to press up the pitch, and he’d be forced to create for himself (as Mitrovic tried, and failed, to do).

This is what lots of fans have predicting from the outset including myself.

Who in the rigth mind voted for a win? Based on what? We are pathetic in every single aspect of the game.

McLaren is not a coach for us but a foreign coach. Viera, whoever. Somebody who really understands the game and can get players confident.

    McLaren is not that man.

Lot of ppl blame Carr, but in his defence, he found Gomis, Ayew, Payet and more but the club was not willing to pay.

Buck stops with Ashley lets not kid ourselves. Club is doing this to itself. Nobody else.

  • 146 Hail Wor Ashley // Sep 19, 2015 at 3:35 PM

Every other club gets a honeymoon period with their manager, we haven’t even tied the knot yet.

McClaren will never be accepted and will be out on his rear very soon if he keeps this up.

Retaining Colo and keeping him as captain and automatic starter was a fatal error early on, not only for his lack of ability, heart and communication, but for the message it sent to the rest of the squad.

He can look good in training, but we all know training sessions aren’t anything like as committed as an opposition looking to take 3pts. He should retire to leisurely beach football and charity 5-asides.

the truth is nobody is a fcuken good player what they said on soccer saturday was absolutely spot on really NUFC is a great team when it has got the local talent, when ever saylor is playing as part of that defence we see a huge difference, arrons might have had a poor first game this season but was great last season, our best times of the past had themselves great local talent such as gazza, shearer, beardsley.

They don’t always have to be locals they can be from other areas but the plain and simple thing was they had the passion now we’ve got a full team of individuals playing for the chance to move on when it’s failed they show there weakest form as we’re seeing now with cisse and sissoko.

we need a young manager who builds a new team from scratch.
and look for more technically and pacey players as we have none of that.
it’s the same reason why english teams will never win a european cup or why england will never win a tournament.

As dramatic aa that sounds so early on, I think if we cant put in a performance and score at least once in the second half the players and fans will lose what little confidence is left. “This is going to be a huge task to stay up unless we spend big in Januaty.”

Spend big how? Who in their right mind would want to come here? Its a Joke. Truly is.

We will be laughed in newspapers and media alike. Teams will come to SJP to up their goald difference.

It all starts with poor signings. Signings that have 0 pace and no impact and who would be fringe players in other clubs.

Relegation will spare us constant defeat every week.

  • 218 Nufc-83 // Sep 19, 2015 at 4:04 PM

Lets look at our team and try take all the bias out:

Krul: Good shot stopper but terrible distribution and poor commanding of the area – Average PL GK.

Haidara: Poor defensively and just as bad going forward as he cant deliver a cross. Positive he is athletic and can cover a lot of ground – Not ready for PL starting position.

Colo – Top CB a few years back but regressed massively and needs to be replaced – Poor PL standard CB.

Mbemba – For me looks like if partnered with a solid PL CB he could be a good player – Early days but so far good PL CB.

Janmaat- Best player last season imo but having a poor season by his standards so far- I would consider him a decent PL RB.

Coldback – Works very hard but has limited ability as he cant pass more than 5 yards and doesn’t offer a physical presence – Poor PL cdm/cm (can find a player similar to him in many championship sides.

Sissokho – On his day our best player imo but he lacks the passing/creative ability to play a cam role and doesnt have the technical ability to play RW- Play him as a box to box CM and i think he is currently a mid table PL player.

Gini – Again still early days but apart from being a great athlete he doesnt seem to possess any special ability?? Does not seem to have great passing/creative/shooting skills- Early days but an average PL CM to me.

Cisse- Would not even get in a league 1 side imo – Terrible player cant do anything apart from score tap ins and we may aswell play with 10 men when he plays.

Perez- My biggest hope for someone with great technical ability and works his socks off- Great prospect for any PL side and will be a top player.

Is there any surprise we are looking at relegation this season with the above???

  • 219 davis_toons // Sep 19, 2015 at 4:06 PM

Anita have proven he is a better player sitting infront of the defends.

He is a better DM than Colback and he can tacker much better, spray passes but he was drop instate of Colback.

Hopefully, an in-form CT can be back soon in order for colback to be drop

Or Will Colback ever be drop?

(Colback is a nice player to have just like Jonas but he is not suitable to be playing deep, he did not have the strength to play there and he couldn’t spray passes like Anita thus he could properly protect the back four or provided a good pass from behind)

Colback has been poor, disappointing as he showed some ability last season imo. He at least provided some connection between our backline and our attack. Didn’t have to hoof as much.

  • 223 andrew84 // Sep 19, 2015 at 4:10 PM

I can only assume that our new signings have had time to stop and ask themselves the question, why the hell Coloccini is their captain? What actually sets him apart from the rest of the team apart from his years of ‘service’ (Krul’s been here longer) and the fact he once had dinner with Ashley?

  • 231 ilovetoon8788 // Sep 19, 2015 at 4:17 PM

After the good signings in the summer it still hasn’t changed a thing for the better. I really can’t put my finger on it.

  • 267 toonking // Sep 19, 2015 at 4:28 PM

when a fullback himself is the most threatening of all players, It’s got to prove our attacking players were plain and simply rubbish to begin with and coachs will not be able to change it and again he nearly scores a second. players might well be able to score lots of goals and very attacking in the league there currently in but it will never guarentee they are going to perform just as well in the new league. Why don’t we go for all those players that show great attack during those championship games?

No superhero like Jonas to save us this year!

Should have been retained, played in DM and made club captain with Janmaat as his deputy, Colo sent packing along with Sissoko. Austin should’ve been signed instead of Mitrovic, Cabella should have been kept and the money for Thauvin spent on the defence.

Not starting young charges like Ayoze and Aarons has also had a negative effect on them, should’ve been fixtures from the off, them been keen to impress on the ascent of their careers would’ve had a good impact on the team early doors and added to the feeling of a new start. Instead we’ve had mopes like Sissoko and Cisse ahead of them.

Don’t understand all this talk about the right characters and then letting our biggest one go and keeping such heartless flakes as Colo and Sissoko, both whom have cast eyes elsewhere numerous times, the message that sent was very damaging. Then signing an idiot like Mitrovic to top it off.

Undermined his own sense of respect immediately with those decisions.

We had a chance to turn the page and it looks like we royally screwed it up.

From what i can make out so far this season.

    _____krul
    jam__mbemba__saylor__dum
    obatan____colback____arrons
    _________wiji
    _____perez___SDJ

is offically the best team we can have as for the rest well i’d put them into these groups-

    merc-sissoko, tiote and cisse
so far not so good but still time- thauvin mitro
    championship- goofy, willo.

as for the rest they belong in the group that are bottom of PL type or championship standard but still not much worse than most those in the top

  • 332 Ibizatoon // Sep 19, 2015 at 4:58 PM

Jesper…I am reliably informed that’s not allowed.

Well, it is if you want to focus on the postives. So I suppose we can form an opinion on Janmaat at this early stage.

Ron…Truth is, there is still lots of time to go, things could improve. However, sat where we are now, to simply say it’s only 6 games is hiding from the reality of where we’re at, imo.

So far, not so good. In fact, pretty terrible.

Disgusting game. Extremely poor by mclaren. This job is not for him and I see him getting sacked by December.

We can spend 50m but we’ve spend very poor. There was ABSOLUTELY no reason to do the cabella thauvin trade. Like for like and both hopeless.

We are punished for not buying another Cb and a striker. Extremely poor way of spending 50m.

  • 342 Obafan // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:01 PM

Colocini should be dropped; Mbemba was playing for 2CB’s today, made a few fantastic tackles but he cannot do the job on his own. I really feel sorry for him being partnered with such a liability of a player. And the worst thing is that that guy is even our captain. McClaren sort your own mess ASAP cause you are even worse than Pardew (I nver thought I would type that).

I lost faith in McClaren when he gave Coloccini the contract extension and kept him on as captain.

  • 347 ilovetoon8788 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:05 PM

    @obafan

Yes j think mclaren is worse than pardew. Him giving colo the captain is major error which is getting us relegated.

Colo looks absolutely hopeless and I’ll be surprised if he can even get a game in a championship side.

  • 348 Jail for Ashley // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:06 PM

  • 349 Jail for Ashley // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:07 PM

Ron Knee, then demoralised the other signings by annou ci g he was the best signing that summer.

  • 350 IrishMagpie // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:07 PM

We’re definitely candidates for relegation after that, how bad will we be when injuries and suspensions kick in later in the season?

At least Ireland won so I’m still in good enough form.

  • 351 Ibizatoon // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:07 PM

Jesper…I feel for him, but really, deep down, did people really expect it to be different? I get the feeling some truly believe this is just a case of waiting for the team to gel.

Ron…He neither had my faith, nor had I written him off. Honestly, the fact he got in Cathro gave me a confidence boost, but I’ve seen or heard little yet to make me think we’re on to bigger and better things. It all just seems like a re-hash of what’s gone before, but with higher transfer fees.

Still, isn’t it nice to know that the club did all they could in the summer!

  • 352 Ketsbaia9 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:08 PM

I got the score right. Watford are a tough team. They’ll be pushing for the top 6 this season.

We could’ve done with Sylvain Marveaux today. He would’ve made an impact.

We still need about 7 new players to compete with the top 10.

Colback needs to be dropped. Anita is miles better.

Aarons is dangerous and needs to play.

Haidara is shocking. Raphael Guerriero needs to come in.

  • 353 Mag52 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:09 PM

    Obafan.

AP was never as bad a manager as made out on here. He, like Macca, are victims of the curse of SJP. Mike Ashley. Get him out !

  • 354 Ketsbaia9 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:09 PM

Thauvin had a decent period towards the end of the first half. I’ve been impressed with Thauvin and Mbemba but Mitrovic and Wijnadum need to show more.

  • 355 BandB // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:10 PM

Yep. I think plenty are just crossing their fingers and hoping the team will gel eventually.
    The manager among them.

  • 356 SUTTY1978 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:10 PM

Thats another team we have played with a new manager and loads of new players, remind me again why for us it needs to be a painful slow burn when others manage to hit the ground running?

  • 357 Nufc-83 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:11 PM

Forgot Thauvin- looks to have decent technical ability but lacks speed to be a decent PL wide man- poor PL player

  • 362 Ibizatoon // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:14 PM

Anyway, let’s not lose focus. This season is the start of us taking cups seriously again.

Who knows. Perhaps the club will be proved right, we’ll do well in a cup and then get relegated.

We’ll all be sorry for wanting sporting ambition. Give me a healthy bank balance any day of the week.

  • 363 toonking // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:15 PM

    Obafan

he does seem to be worse than pardew but what do you all expect when the club has got an unattractive owner?

I like most pundits was repeatedly saying it week in week out pardew wasn’t doing that bad a job considering the circumstances and we’d be no better off if pardew were to leave and it’s becoming proven now. 99% of the time we get these crap ones, good ones would never come and the hope of getting a young promising manager in wouldn’t work either because the squad itself has got a discraceful attitude. Chris hughton himself actually had the help of kevin nolan at assisting him to get the spirit returned to the team after that awaful chaos during the previous premier league season but now we’ve even lost those types of players.

  • 364 SUTTY1978 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:16 PM

Ibiza, just ask Wigan what they would prefer, one day out at Wembley or to still be in the premier league!

  • 365 Ketsbaia9 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:16 PM

Marveaux will make a big impact. He can assist and has pace and flair.

I’d rather have him playing than De Jong.

  • 366 BandB // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:16 PM

Charnley said himself…they weren’t looking for a yes man…just someone who would accept things as they are without complaint.
The main reason for looking for no-one beyond McClaren was that he looked the neatest fit for the hole from which Pardew had just sprung himself.

  • 367 bettyswallocks // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:17 PM

We clearly are a very poor team, I don’t think anyone can dispute that. The problem is what is the solution. We have no realistic alternatives other than Mitro being the Messiah.

  • 368 BandB // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:19 PM

That was just about our first choice team that lost at home to a newly-promoted side today, with no-one to come back who is a guaranteed game-changer.

  • 369 IrishMagpie // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:21 PM

Marveaux has pace? Have you seen him play? I wouldn’t say pace is one of his strong points.

  • 370 Ibizatoon // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:21 PM

Betty…We had realistic alternatives just a few weeks ago. But it was far too early for negativity.

BandB…It almost sounds like what they want is a mute.

Sutty…The PL is huge for football clubs, and clearly would need to be the main focus.

  • 371 firebug666 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:21 PM

I really don’t know what all the fuss is about, at least we are consistent.

  • 372 toonking // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:24 PM

We might all talk about teams such as leister, southampton and swansea all showing great quality but the truth is them teams and their managers don’t have fans week in week out expecting a game to finish as a win. It’s this lack of pressure which can enable them to perform and have such a great season, on top of that they’ll be filled with confidence having just got promoted or in leisters case suvived an almost certain relegation, we on the other hand are demanding these every week, “i’m no exception”, this leads to much more pressure for a perform to be man by those who do try.

  • 373 JamesToon // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:24 PM

Big mistake playing cisse today its like playing with fcking 10men.

  • 374 SPRINGY // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:24 PM

    krul….steady game
janmaat…..good game but lacked that quality a few times in the last 3rd….man of the match contender didnt see there 1st goal so cant comment if he was to blame
mbemba…steady but let the lad run off him for the second goal
colo….got ran ragged and nee pressure on deeney to stop the pass for the second goal
haidara….tried but caught on the ball or lacked control at times and quality in last third not there
    colback……grafted…not much else
sissoko……tried but the quality and crispness of passes lacking
perez….worked hard but weak at times but him and janmaat seemed the brightest with gini
gini….quieter 1st half then 2nd….looked good picking the ball up and running
thauvin….tried but nowt came off….quality and choice of pass main problem…but cant fault his effort
    cisse…..waste of space…non existant
dejong….showed some intelligence but needs games
    aarons…tried without making a statement…
    obertan…ran…thats it
macca……weak for startin with cisse, running out time

  • 375 BandB // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:25 PM

I’m not going to start panicking now.
I started panicking when getting beat by York City was being hailed as “signs of progress.”

  • 376 JamesToon // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:29 PM

Watford had a gameplan, strikers sit deep to stop midfield from being overcrowded, when they win the ball, the strikers hit the wings and hold it up, deeney and ighalo got so much space it was unbelievable. Aarons, De Jong all need to start against chelsea and i’d even be tempted to play lascelles, and put colback at left back as haidara was woeful

has to be 4-4-2 for me, play it in the way that bournemouth/watford do,
    krul
    janmaat, mbemba, lascelles, colback
    thauvin, wijnaldum, tiote/anita, aarons
    Perez, De Jong

Ever since mitro has been suspended or hasn’t played we’ve lacked someone to spearhead the attack and defend from the front, we supposedly play this high pressing game but our forwards are useless at it apart from perez

  • 377 Mag52 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:31 PM

    Sutty.

Pardew’s gone but the problems remain. Do you not agree with that ?

  • 378 shearer4pm // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:33 PM

Start of the season I was optimistic, I mean we have had hard games but (no disrespect to Watford) should of been a banker win

Then you look and think, actually when you don’t invest in 3 seasons and spend 42m it won’t be an instant fix, the players we’ve signed the last 3 seasons (numbers wise) are miles behind the rest of the league

I still think we’ll be fine, get cisse gone to uae (if there window is still open) get Austin in January, honestly believe we would of won at least two games if we’d of signed him start of July.

Still think there’s worse teams than us, but city and Chelsea next. We need to start the season after that! And fast!

  • 379 SUTTY1978 // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:33 PM

Just seem Mac on SSN, he talked for two minutes but said nothing.
Waffle, consistency, waffle, first four games, waffle, draw would have been a good result

The man is overawed by the job just like he was for England. Out of his depth. I said weeks ago that he was a bottler and thats why we were playing so defensively, just in the hope of not taking a battering.

  • 380 toonking // Sep 19, 2015 at 5:36 PM

relegation battle being ours i’ve looked into the next two fixtures of those around us
mackems have manure A and westham H
villa have liverpool A and stoke H
    stoke have bournemouth H villa

and well if we include bournemoth they have stoke A and watford H

by the time norwich comes we’ll end up 2 games from 17th possibly even 3 or 4!
