It´s difficult to be a Newcastle player or Newcastle manager at the best of times, never mind when we are doing poorly, which we are right now – it feels like the worst of times.
That´s also true for fans – even more so – as we have experienced this year – so far it´s the worst year we have had in the Premier League – albeit split between two seasons.
When we are doing poorly the National press comes in and just loves to slam Newcastle and get the boot in when they can.
Rodney Marsh – puts the boot in on McClaren
So after we have lost the last two league games and played poorly, there are a number of pundits giving their opinions on both Newcastle and Steve McClaren – and they´re not good.
That latest one to put the boot in is former QPR and England striker Rodney Marsh, who doesn´t expect Steve McClaren to be in the job as Newcastle head coach by the end of the season.
This is what Marsh has said on the Sports Bar early today:
“If you’re a Newcastle supporter, how do you feel?” “This season, they’ve been nothing short of diabolical. If Steve McClaren’s there at the end of the season, I will be highly impressed.”
Of course the discussion also centered on Newcastle´s possible relegation this season, which would be an unmitigated disaster.
But if we are in trouble at the end of this year we have to think the club will bring in more players in January and even be willing to pay over the odds for them, as we did in 2013 when faced with possible relegation.
We have to try to stay calm and just hope the lads can start playing somewhere near their abilities – which they haven´t done over the last two games.
If Steve continues to struggle we expect the club to stick by him but not at the expense of a relegation – which would take us out of the top flight in England – something that would simply be too hard to bear.
It would be too difficult for fans to take – especially after the disasters we suffered under John Carver.
