Shearer Reacts To Another Newcastle Defeat

Alan Shearer – unimpressed

Newcastle were very poor tonight and looked worse than we did against Watford on Saturday – and remember we were playing at home to a second division side – what´s that about making St. James’ Park a fortress – this was our third defeat at home this season in four home games.

This is how the former number 9 reacted to this defeat against Championship club Sheffield Wednesday – our fifth defeat in eight games, and fifth game without scoring a goal this season.

The problems are the same as this of last season.

Comments welcome.

English players thugs and crap is BULLSH!T

on that pitch today we had just ONE yes ONE english player on that pitch today, in the last few years we’ve only consisted of 2 english players getting time, the thugs in our game are the bloody foreigners, nolan and barton don’t have the skill like the thugs but them players provide charecter and that has been missing for ages now.

It seems it was canny business appointing McClaren and half the Derby coaching staff!

The only thing topping this is the decision to keep on Charmless and letting him continue operating as our GM!

  • 4 manxpie // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:04 PM

Well judging by the local commentary we were worse than absolute shite how with that team can we lose not only by a goal but with no shot on target but there second team and with home advantage! !?

If anyone now says it’s all the managers fault then fusk off!

These players (there’s still most of the best squad ever left!!!  ) are not good enough simple as that and why we haven’t done shit this squad is shit and not equipped!!!!

Why do we always have to pick an English manager (or Joe Kinnear). ALL English managers are rubbish. English players are generally stupid thugs who never even went to school and don’t go on to make good managers. And the ones we choose are from way back when the English League used to be all about long balls to massive strikers. If we sack McClaren we will only go and replace him with Curbishley or Bruce or Gerry Francis.

  • 11 lochinvar // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:09 PM

Wednesday made 10 changes for that game and only conceded 3 fouls away at SJP so pathetic was our threat in attack.
    Southampton scored six away.
Carlisle are into extra time at Anfield.
Ashley has nowhere to hide – he has to sack MClaren now.
It was the wrong appointment from the start.
The target is to win Cups and finish top eight.
Those are unattainable even now so McLaren is finished.
Even bringing Moyes in from Spain would look like employing the old guard style manager.
There’s a new generation of players and Managers out there but Ashley doesn’t understand that – he must be as thick as he looks sideways on.

  • 12 Szarka // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:10 PM

The players are not bad, there just not puth together, no ambition, no passion. We need a manager, that is more like a mental coach, and shake this team up. Need some kind of play, i want to see, what do we play, do we have any plan, not just let it to the players, ” do what u want” .

It doesnt matter if they are english or foreigners, best of EPL are not english players.

  • 13 manxpie // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:10 PM

Well we would have been home against arsenal anyways lol

  • 14 Belfast // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:10 PM

What would sacking McClaren actually achieve? You’d still have the same bunch of players who’ve bottled it under 1,2,3 managers now.

Flawed transfer policy and a lack of investment over an 8 year period and this is what you end up with.

A squad a players that has very little experience and very few players who’ve proven they can cut the mustard in this division.

    Thanks Mike!

That explains it, it’s those pesky foreigners fault……………………why couldn’t I see it before, here was I thinking it was the owner who was the root cause when all along it was those little foreign buggers who are to blame, shame Ashkey hasn’t got them on those zero hours contracts he’s so fond of

  • 18 ochytoon // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:12 PM

Newcastle are no longer a team to be proud of and haven’t been in a long time. Under MA we’ve merely become another team lacking an identity (such as Villa, West Ham, West Brom etc.), struggling to tread water in a sea of mediocrity. We’re in a bad position and there is nothing worse than watching a team with no desire roll over week after week because at the end of the day, they still get their paychecks.
The influx of tv money has ruined English football over the past decade or so. We are not the only club full of players who don’t care, but right now we’re the best example. Nothing will ever change at Newcastle or at any other team who are currently outside the top 4/5, unless a billionaire is prepared to bankroll someone to success a la Man City. English football has lost its magic. Newcastle have lost their magic. I doubt either of these entities will ever regain it.

  • 19 sparky55 // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:14 PM

We’re dead in the water…no leadership, no bottle, no heart, no hope and a useless cnut for a manager.

Even Jose would struggle to get this team premiership ready both physically and mentally.

Sack the b@st@rd before it’s too late…never fcuking liked him and my expectations have been 110% met.

I actually looked at the man of the match poll on Saturday and of the 14 players listed 3 maybe 4 have proven they can cut the mustard. The rest is just a mish mash of players who might cut the mustard and ones who never will.

I don’t buy the great squad lark myself

  • 25 lesh // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:15 PM

Well, if McClaren does go, it’ll be before Christmas – if this dire run continues.

But, who’ll replace him? Cathro seems the obvious choice but he’s too risky.

Even the usual suspects are thin on the ground.

Charnley should really take some responsibility for buying with little thought off the squad needs. Maybe Carr’s wings need to be clipped too.

Whatever happens, it needs to happen quick – even if it means paying big wages to get an out-of-contract and quality striker, CB and LB in.

Ffs so pardew was rubbish we had the best squad ever relegation fight!

Pardew flying high in the league and through in the cup

mcclaren with a bit better squad but same results he’s now demonised!

When are some of you gonna blame the players!?

The ” best squad ever” went well didn’t it?
Where are some of them players now?

I think this shows just how poor our players actually are..

The mess that has been created over the years through the ridiculous transfer policy is shining brightly right now.

    It can’t be missed!

It ain’t the managers fault and especially ain’t McClaren’s, he has only been here a handful of games what could he have possibly done? Nout! He has only started to pick up the pieces of a very broken football club.

  • 32 willowdalerez // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:21 PM

TP I agreee. It’s not McClaren

You can’t have the same problem under Pardew and Carver but then point the finger at McClaren. It’s the squad. And I don’t think the mentality can change without a massive clear out.

People who are just not good enough for NUFC or just need to leave:

    Graham Carr
    Ron Elliot
    Mike Williamson
    Fabricio Coloccini
    Massadio Haidara
    Vurnon Anita
    Cheick Tiote
    Moussa Sissoko
    Sylvain Marveaux
    Gabriel Obertan
    Yoan Gouffran
    Papiss Cisse
    Emmanuel Rivière

    Potentially McClaren as well

    Action needs to happen now.
McLaren has managed to loose the changing room before he ever found it. He has to go.
    Waiting is not an option.
Ashley has been found out ( as if everyone didn’t already know )
Appointing dull , safe , predictable Managers belongs in the seventies – we are in a new age and Ashley doesn’t understand it.

Here’s a word association game now provided by psychiatrists to their patients.
There are no right or wrong answers but funnily enough there are multiple answers but the first word begins with F

    Wonga – ?

    Charnley – ?

  • 42 toon kk // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:27 PM

Pardew is building a team that wins with Palace, he didn’t get a chance at Newcastle, every time we started to pick up Mash sold our best players. Now he’s gone we’re left with a basically a useless squad with no pace, poor defenders, and no one who can score.

  • 43 willowdalerez // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:27 PM

  • 45 JamesToon // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:28 PM

I honestly think we have a toxic dressing room, and I think this is graham Carr and lee charnleys fault not mcclarens.

Players like Wijnaldum and Mbemba are good signings but only when they are matched up with a squad that has a quality and experienced backbone/spine.

People like Cisse, Thauvin, Obertan, Anita, Haidara, Williamson, Coloccini clearly just don’t care, have the heart and passion or have the quality.

  • 46 toonking // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:28 PM

I’ve had the belief over the last year that the german route could prove the best route for us the trouble is we fans will have to spend time with the club in league 1 or 2 allowing us the time to get our team building back around academy, in the premier league it’ll be money spending and maybe the same in championship unless we had 5-7 years there.

i said english players don’t make good managers. while they have plenty of heart and stamina they don’t have much brains. look at mcclaren when he thought he could speak dutch or pardew who can barely speak english. i think we should have a few more english players and i was hoping taylor would have got back in to provide some passion. but when we keep getting managers who’ve been sacked from lower leagues or giving the job to useless assistant managers i don’t think it really matters about who we play.

  • 49 Toon-Prodigy // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:30 PM

On Carr, it makes no difference if he is here or not..

We could have the best scout in the world, or coach, but unless you pay the necessary wages to bring top players in then it will be a waste of time because the pool of players will always be limited who comes through the door.

    Just like they are now.

We are never going to get top seasoned players here for 40k a week so who cares who the scout is!

  • 50 loonie-toon // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:30 PM

  • 51 Hail Wor Ashley // Sep 23, 2015 at 10:31 PM

Only question to my mind is if we ‘beat’ Sunderlnd’s lowest points total for a PL season at this rate.

£50m down the swanny, another manager that can’t hack the task at this club, players that are so overwhelmed with the pressure that comes for playing in this football mad city they’ve just shrivelled up and mentally checked out. A scout that wields way too much power. A cowardly, fickle captain retained, his loyal, dedicated compatriot let go. A manager supposedly looking for the right characters when we have more defected sorts than any other team and actively added to them.

Never ending nightmare that gets worse right when you think it isn’t possible.

Southampton & Swansea have achieved their success by having a great Director of Football who time & again chooses great managers who play good football. We have been the absolute opposite, popping down the job centre to see who we can appoint on the cheap.

players parts is where we need more but managers part is certainly where a foreign one would be prefered but when typing this myself I would say this gives a sign ourselves as a club are sadly just a mid to lower table team, the last time we were a great one was when the great sir bobby was in charge and since then we’ve declined more and more.

Been to all the home games this season. I’m sickened and not attending for a while. During this season and last I’ve taken my new girlfriend to 7 toon games and she hasn’t seen us score.

It seems to me the core problem (among MANY others) is the inability to play through the middle. Anita and colback provide no creativity and stay alongside the CB’s effectively attacking with 2 less players (1 tonight )
Couple that with zero movement and desire for the ball, so we give up possession easily.

Cb to fullback to CDM , back to the defence to Krul then long ball and lost possession .

    Gutless, Toothless joke .

    Shame on everyone

Only players I’d genuinely keep if given the choice would be:

Mbemba – purely because he has shown a few glimpses of defensive nous in a terrible backline.

    Janmaat – should be captain

Wijnaldum – he has pedigree for a reason and was seen as a coup by all footballing fans and pundits alike, again has shown glimpses in a team bereft of guts or glory.

Aarons – needs a chance as there is undoubted potential, holding him back will only serve to knock his confidence and question his own ability. Throw him in whilst he’s on the ascendency, although that might have passed.

Perez – such a talent if only a manager would believe in him and give him his due by playing him as a ST. Like Janmaat, he seems to give a damn.

Every other player I couldn’t give a stuff if they left.

What has losing got to do with having 1 English player? Are you one of these who believes the rubbish tripe of English players have more fight etc. Bottom line is we aren’t good enough and mcclaren isn’t getting the best out of the team, if I remember correctly the wally had an entire nation of Englishman to pick from and still couldn’t qualify whilst manager of England. If English players had more fight then England would do well in major tournaments.

Stupid decisions like getting rid of Gutierriez who I’d rather have at LB instead of shitty Haidara. Getting rid of Abeid and Kemen whilst keeping Anita. Poor decision making is costing us, Thauvin bought instead of reinforcing the defence. McClaren needs to change his ways or get the chop!! My patience is thin now with this idiot, whilst Watford and Leicester go out and get managers who have abundance of experience we keep going down the British root!!

Also don’t think McClaren did much for team morale when during the transfer window, he on more than one occasion publicly said we need better players (it’s a given, no need to mention it as a manager) and to improve the quality throughout the squad. Easily interpreted as a sleight against the current lot and hardly conducive to team spirit and confidence building. Over 50 and still hasn’t learnt when to keep his counsel as a supposed manager and motivator of men.

First opportunity they’ve got and many in the squad seem to have defied his authority and are no longer with him – in record time! As bad as McClaren appears to be, we can’t let those stroppy, overpaid, overgrown brats get away it either.

You know we could end up having a season with no Cup won and relegation 😉

If this was a computer game I’d probably quit career mode now and start a new game.

    Goodnight 🙂

Just read that two of my favourite posters feel sorry for Mclaren, simply can’t agree, he is on the board, he has signed up to what they do and his best signing let the at out of the bag that Watford was more our league, he must be in on that !

“Relegation battle” makes it sound as if we are going to show grit and commitment in a ‘battle’. We are looking more like sinking without trace or breaking sweat.

As the man said “This the way the world ends – not with a bang but a whimper ” from The Hollow Men ….. now that sounds more like our team…

Tads are Anita or collo better?
Williams or alderwielrd would be better
Both with prem experience not even thought of!
The huge problem is we buy FROM abroad not that there foreign

  • 83 Bri // Sep 23, 2015 at 11:04 PM

It really is infuriating when the team struggle to create chances never mind sticking the ball in the net.
Where Mc and the team go from here god knows.

    our toon

nolan and barton proved that season of championship football just how much charector the bottom table british player or local lads can bring in comparison to foreigners, we today were playing a second string sheff wed team and showed absolutely no team play at all, sissoko, cisse but looked great when first here now just two greedy payers. Newcastle United itself is nothing like a big club to those foreign players just a small club in a big stadium that is also miles away from decent cities. This doesn’t mean to say that british players aren’t also like that of course so are such as your owen’s and rooney’s but they know a big club will buy them. Pardew’s first full season in charge of newcastle saw what was a great unbeaten run during the first 13 games and those games were the same games which saw steven taylor play and it seems to happen every time.

Foreign players can be like that too such as your jonas’s but they are few and far between because most will arrive unXP from abroad whilst those who are XP normally have a key part to play in it’s current team.

    Toon Prodigy

You’ve hit the nail on the head when you say that the money-driven transfer policy’s coming home to roost.

I agree that McClaren’s naively walked into a mess of a club yet he is paid to get results. Is it the players that aren’t good enough, ot maybe there isn’t enough quality in an imbalanced squad, is it McClaren, Cathro? Something else.

If results show no sign of improvement for Christmas at mid-table, then McClaren’ll have to think about the options – maybe let Cathro loose with the first team? Maybe stick things out? Walk?

    What a mess.

Anyone who does not blame McClaren is completely missing the point. Yes, the players need to man up and show responsibility and bravery on the pitch. However, Schteve could help by playing them in the positions for which they are most useful / have been purchased for. Last night, Perez was shunted between main attacker and left wing, then Ivan Toney (wrong game, wrong time, and wrong situation for him to make his entry) was brought on and our ‘Perez’ threat was completely extinguished. Thauvin could have easily been subbed after 8 minutes, this French joker could not pass to someone in a phone box, a definite downgrade on the woeful Cabella. Marseilles seen us coming again.
If McClaren was blameless, he would have picked a formation and left them to get on with it. The constant tinkering and shifting of positions does nothing to help the players understand their roles, and furthermore, is a sign of a manager without a clue.
