Transfer Rumors About This Newcastle Player Ridiculous

9:14 am, Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 12 Comments

The national press are having the proverbial field day with Newcastle United at the moment because of our poor results and poor form,

When Newcastle are struggling the press come in and essentially try to make things worse because bad news is really good news for them.

Really bad news is even better and if Newcastle are on the brink of complete collapse – well – that’s like manna from heaven.

Florian Thauvin

Florian Thauvin after signed on at Newcastle this summer

One story in the last couple of days was that we have some bad eggs in the camp and that that is making things even worse at the club because it’s affecting other players and the team spirit.

-Steve McClaren today has said that’s completely untrue.

Another report we’ll try to shoot down is the notion that Barcelona are interested in our new signing Florian Thauvin and that we could lose him in January.

That story first came up after Florian played really well for us against Northampton Town, and the Frenchman’s name was said to be on a long list of signings Barcelona could possible make in January.

At that time his name was mentioned but he was not said to be a priority for the powerhouse Spanish club.

The January transfer window is important for Barca because the FIFA embargo on signings will be lifted in 2016 and they will be able to sign new players again.

But the story keeps getting regenerated because if we were to lose Florian in January and he’s played well for us before then – that would be another blow to Newcastle.

That’s another way of putting the boot in.

Mike Ashley may have done a lot wrong in eight years at the club.

Let’s rephrase that.

Mike Ashley has done a lot wrong at the club over the last eight years but he seems determined to get Newcastle back to being in the top half of the table and not have to go through what we went through with John Carver earlier this year.

There is no way Newcastle will let Florin Thauvin go in January – no way at all.

It’s simply a pipe dream created by the national press.

We hope Florian starts tonight and has another excellent game like he had in the last round against Northampton Town when we won 4-1.

Ed, no one really around mate, give this thread a few minutes. Anyway, off till later…

    Spot on Steve.
On the previous post, I like what you say re 3 windows. Shows you (they) mean it. But don’t fall into the we need ‘British’ players propaganda. The best players in the PL are foreign. And, when they’re really good, they don’t even need much time for this league. It’s full of international players, it’s not like it’s the foreign boy amongst the locals. More the opposite.

Just sign good, clever, pacy players. Dig up a young Aguero or a Suarez (I assure you they aren’t British) , we’re set.

Carr, the pressure and spotlight is on YOU man. Too many duds, and the buck stops with you. Hire some strappy young scouts who are willing to scour the WHOLE world.

To quote a manager who (wrongly) hated foreigners, on another matter:

“Players lose you games, not tactics. There’s so much crap talked about tactics by people who barely know how to win at dominoes.”

He’s right of course. If you’ve played football with really really good players, they don’t need a manager to tell them what to do. So if we hire a few of those, we’re set.

Of course, having said this, to win, our lot will need a little coaching and tactics.

More goals than Liverpool, West Brom and Newcastle have managed between them in 18 games (1620 minutes total) in the PL! That Bayern no. 9, 5 goals in 9 minutes!!

i agree. we need to ship some of these players on,starting with williamson and oberan, these 2 offer nothing, give them away for free, then the likes of colo and cisse should be sold for normal fees, 2-3 mill, sissoko has the ability , he just needs to knckle down and stop talking to the press, he thinks he is better than he is, i would much rather see young rolando giving a start than sissoko

How does Ashley seem determined to make us top 8? I don’t see that at all

As for Thauvin if we get offered enough for him he’s away that’s the policy we have regardless of how long they have been with us

catchy – your post on the previous topic was well thought out and I completely agree with it. I’m disappointed with our start but a bit too early to panic yet!
On topic – unlikely as it is – surely Thauvin couldn’t go to Barcelona because you can’t play for 3 clubs in one season.

    Thauvin for Messi perhaps.

We are that short on players we are going to have to play reserves.

Maybe McClaren will try and hit them hard, get a few goals up then sub the players off that are going to play against Chelsea.

I Haidara is also injured we might end up having to go three at the back. Obertan and Aarons could do a job as wingbacks.

It’s amazing how often a managers comments can come back and bite them in the ass !
Ten days ago Macca was bemoaning the effect of International breaks saying
“Ideally you want the games to come thick and fast”

Well they are now bonny lad .

The club at the moment needs this cuptie like a hole in the heed.

The Newcastle reorganisation from the top has been greatly over-hyped. All Ashley actually said was he wasn’t leaving. You can forget about the ‘until we win somnething’ part, as that’s not happening, either. With all the TV money about to tip into his wallet, it is hardly surprising for money-mad Ashley to dig in and scoop it up. As far as taking the cups seriously, we have already seen a weakened side fielded and we will see another tonight. The other stuff about stepping off the board is just taking himself out of the firing line. We have an effective 2-man board of Carr and Charmless and anyone who doesn’t believe Ashley has a direct line to those two is deluded. Do most fans have faith in that pair to manage the club? Not a chance.

  • 10 sickandtired // Sep 23, 2015 at 11:05 AM

I believe the Thauvin speculation far more than I do Ed’s suggestion Ashley is now trying to turn things around!
By appointing Schteeve? By continuing to allow Carr to choose the players we sign?
Only thing Ashley is concerned on is turning a profit, zero to do with football success of any shape or form.

  • 11 sickandtired // Sep 23, 2015 at 11:07 AM

@martoon – too early to panic?
We have the least points tally of any other PL club since last April, including the three who went down and the three who came up!
How many seasons of Ashley do you need before panic sets in?

  • 12 c-dog // Sep 23, 2015 at 12:54 PM

I’m can’t say Thauvin is good/bad. But i sympathize with him having to play with our not so creative central midfield. Still haven’t replaced Cabaye. It’s horrible. Should have brought him back. Someone who plays the “RIGHT” pass needed desperately.
