McClaren To Bank On New Signing For Big Threat Tomorrow

4:36 pm, Friday, September 25th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 14 Comments

Steve McClaren has said in his press conference this afternoon for the tough game against Chelsea tomorrow that Aleksandar will come straight back into the side tomorrow, after being suspended for three games for being sent off against Arsenal.

McClaren doesn’t have too many options with Papiss Cisse having an injured back and other potential players who can play as striker looking a little out of form at the moment – that´s true for everybody except Ayoze Perez.

Siem de Jong had his chance on Wednesday night but missed two late but decent chances in that 1-0 defeat by the Owls.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – after 0-0 draw at Old Trafford

This is some of what the head coach has said today:

“It will be good to have Mitrovic back – we have missed him for three games.” “It will be good to have Mitrovic back – we have missed him for three games.”

“We didn’t have a striker at all on Wednesday. We are short in that area, but Mitrovic coming back … he can be our focal point.”

“We need that with the style that we are playing. We saw that at Old Trafford. We need to see it a little bit more.”

“It’s a great opportunity, we need to just curb his enthusiasm. He is very keen to play. We welcome him back.”

“We didn’t have a striker at all on Wednesday. We are short in that area, but Mitrovic coming back … he can be our focal point.”

Aleksandar must have more control when he puts in tackles tomorrow and the last thing we want to see in tomorrow´s game is that he picks up an early yellow card.

This is huge pressure on the 21 year-old – but it´s interesting that Newcastle´s form has also dipped since he´s been out of the side.

If Newcastle play well tomorrow, then it may indicate that Mitrovic is already an important player for Newcastle, simply because other players know he can score goals for the side.

Can you imagine what the mood would be like if Aleksandar can get an early goal for us tomorrow – it´s going to take something like that to lift the Newcastle side.

Comments welcome.

I’ve just received an ail from Penfold. He says that we the club are going to take collective action. Sounds like a strike, in which case he’s a little off the pace. The players appear to have downed tools already…… Filed under more PR guff.

Can we hope that Black’s managed to train Mitro to control himself. Chelsea have the players to wind him up to the point of being red-carded.

the old copy/paste skills letting you down there a bit Ed 🙂

The “style that we are playing”!? What style, the everyone walk around the big green thing for 90 minutes and go home, that style? The one that clearly doesn’t work for us? FFS it’s so frustrating, change something .. anything!

This lad could get sent off if he was the only player on the pitch. Chelsea players will do everything to wind him up and get a reaction out of the lad which no doubt he will oblige them.

Damn right on Mitro. Just come in and get a hatrick. No pressure then!

Why oh why, do journalist not ask follow up questions, like how would SMc describe the style of footbal that NUFC are playing?

I have to admit I was thinking of an add on to SMs moaning about not having had a striker on Wednesday night… like why didn’t we sign one then?

i agree on loaning rolando out ! we need to sort his contract first mind you but he does look like he needs experience and toughening up a little.

its time we put the players needs in his development before we part use them and ruin their careers in a struggling side when they are not ready for the pressure we would surely give him when he makes mistakes.

Of the Senior players mentioned in the last article:
Thauvin, Obertan, Sissoko, Wijnaldum and de Jong.

I would put Aarons fourth, possibly third, so why does he need to sit on his hands when he has proved he can both be very effective and score goals, whilst most of the others can not say the same.

How to make a player feel wanted ship him out, or put him in the first team?

Thought I was cracking up reading that dodgy copy and pasting there.. C’mon Ed!

Ahh, a well timed interview by Charnley..

Atleast we are going to see more signings in January by the look of it..

I just hope it’s good players with experience of this league. Surely this has to be the number 1 issue to fix within the squad. I think they know it now like. Thankgod for that.

    Interview with Charnley?

Where’d you see it and will you post a link to it, please?
