The Sun are reporting today that Newcastle are interested in signing 22 year-old Burnley centre-back Michael Keane, the former Manchester United youngster who signed on at Burnley last January after spending the first half of last season on loan at The Clarets.
Newcastle are likely to bring in a centre-back and a striker in January and the number of players Newcastle will sign will probably depend on what position we are in the league by then.
Michael Keane – Newcastle interested in the Burnley central defender
Although Newcastle put on a display of courage and guts and quite a bit of skill yesterday against Chelsea, the PL Champions were able to come back from two goals down to draw the game – scoring their two goals in the last 11 minutes of play after Perez and Wijnaldum had put us two goals ahead.
So while it was a good performance we still don´t have our first league win and are still in 19th place with 3 points from the first seven games played.
But there are still 13 league games to play by January 2nd so there´s ample opportunity to start picking up points and moving up the league table – which is what we need to do – the sooner the better.
Newcastle have already been linked with 23 year-old Schalke center back Joel Matip and 23 year-old Wolfsburg center back Robin Knoche, who are both tall powerful defenders.
The advantage that Keane would have is that he played in the Premier league last season for Burnley and he would come to terms with playing for Newcastle a lot more quickly than the two players from the Bundesliga.
This is not a new story and initial reports of Newcastle´s interest came out a couple of weeks ago.
Everton would be interested in signing Keane but only if they allow John Stones to leave in January, and since they have turned down some huge offers from Chelsea for Stones in the summer why would they change their minds and sell him in January?
Michael played for Steve McClaren for a couple of months in November of 2013, while McClaren was the manager at Derby County so the head coach at Newcastle is well aware of how good he is, and Newcastle are now supposed to be the favorites to sign this player.
Michael has played for the U17 Ireland side because of his Irish ancestry, but he has also played for the England U19, U20, and U21 sides – playing 16 times with 3 goals for the England U21 side.
We think Michael would be an excellent buy and it will be good to have the 6´ 2¨ tall Englishman in the Newcastle squad.
What do you think?

Just like Winni, Cabaye would have struggled in this side, but one is a proven PL player the other is not

How has McClaren taken a risk on them?

Cabaye played in our midfield, in a similar role to Anita when Pardew didn’t have the ball sailing over his head he was a play maker and a far better one that what we have now. Ur point was they couldn’t play together when clearly they could Gini no 10 or on the wing and Cabs dictating play from the centre
And let’s no be ageist eh? Ashley’s view of experience isn’t particularly good so let’s not get dragged down that hole with him

In a struggling team Wijnaldum has already done more than cabaye who’s playing in a team which isn’t struggling yet. So why is the “proven” premier league player struggling or not outclassing the unproven premier league player?
As for the debate mourinho came out and said very few can play in Chelsea’s midfield from other teams in this league but he thinks wijinaldum could as he has all the attributes that would make him a success. Maybe mourinho doesn’t know what he’s talking about it either

When cabaye played in our midfield he had a very good Tiote in there who could help win the ball back. If we had that type of Tiote now then wijinaldum would be in midfield with him playing the same role as cabaye did. The problem is Anita and Colback ain’t as good as Tiote was in that role back then.
Anyway I’m defo off now will reply to all in the morning have fun people

Comment #48Mcca will get these players playing again.
1. We have balance at the front. Perez and Mitrovic compliment each other.
2. At CM.Anita and Colback play well together. Wijnaldum jst didnt work out with either at Wednesday Watford and Chelsea second half. Wijnaldum shld remember how to play Wing.
3. CB. Colo and Mbemba go good wen it comes to floor football. Put that ball in the air goals will flow in. Mbemba needs a Strong tall CB next to him to complement him.

For someone who’s excelling at palace you’d think he’d have more of an impact than he’s had, 1 goal from open play and a pen today. 1 assist if that hardly setting the league alight is he?
Wwsbrd – I’m not being ageist mate it makes a big difference when you’ve spent 2 years on the bench and at 30 try to kick start your career again.
