Newcastle Star Both Really Happy And Very Sad

9:15 am, Sunday, September 27th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 33 Comments

Ayoze Perez, not for the first time this season looked impressive yesterday and his new partnership with Aleksandar Mitrovic looked promising and they offered a threat up front against Chelsea.

Ayoze scored his first goal of the season yesterday and it was a beauty as he brilliantly controlled a high cross into the box by Vurnon Anita and slammed the ball home in off the post.

Ayoze Perez – scores first goal yesterday – look at that technique!

It was a performance Newcastle fans needed to see after some pitiful displays from the side over the last three games, and Perez has it right to say that display yesterday is now the minimum standard for Newcastle from now on.

This is what Ayoze said on the Newcastle web-site after the game:

“It was a very good performance and we deserved to win. I am very happy to have got my first goal of the season but also really sad because we dropped two points.”

“It was a good time to score, just before half time. It made us confident, and the second goal as well helped that even more,”

“The pressure came off me a little. I am a striker and I have to score goals, so it felt very good. We have to make sure that we’re like this every single game against every team.”

“That is what we have to think and that is how we have to work.” “This is our standard. This is what we have to keep and there are no excuses because we have shown we can play to this level.”

It doesn´t get any easier next Saturday when we visit the Etihad to take on Manchester City, who have now lost their last two league games.

We may not win that game, but what we must see is another committed, spirited and gutsy performance from this new Newcastle side and if we can get that – who knows what may happen.

    Ashley Out!

    REPOST

Perez was my MOTM, not because of his well taken goal but his all round work especially when he drops off and supports the midfield where he has quick feet, close ball control, pace and strength to get out of tricky situations, make space for himself and others.

Having Mitro up front takes the pressure off Perez who can then play his natural game.

The 4-4-2 formation worked really well and with the exception of Mbabu it was round pegs in round holes.

I thought Gini looked better playing on the wing as he isn’t a Cabaye / Fabregas midfield player who can spray the balls around with pinpoint accuracy. Gini’s game is speed and movement and that only works when he has two defensive minded players in midfield to cover for him when he supports the attack.

Overall a very good performance, much welcomed..

from last string re Sissoko and was he any worse than anyone else

IMO sissoko’s performances are now well below what they have been which brings him down to the level we had before yesterday when once he was the leading light.

He is much better than his performances would make you believe..that means his hearts not in it and IMO he should focus off and the sooner the better.

    fcuk off!

Great to see a much improved effort. We haven’t been playing great, but we haven’t attempted to play decent football as a basis over the last few years, so trying to do it now is going back to basics with them – That will take time, so although it has been poor form and application, it can’t be fully fixed overnight.

I just hope it can be done. SM hasn’t left his last few jobs for being outstanding.

Sissoko will play well in a team with no intelligent coaches like ours . He is resistant to CHANGE .
He shld leave . Cisee , Tiote, Willo, Taylor, Goufrann. Next out of the door.
I still have hop in Marvuex . He will get good with this coaching team .

    In conclusion, ASHLEY OUT.

  • 9 hibbit // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:29 AM

MOTM……the crowd 100% support from start to finish amazing !!!

Why did we have to sell Abeid and Keep Cheik?

  • 11 NezzaNUFC // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:32 AM

I enjoyed watching the game yesterday but it’s not the first time we played like this then the next game back to the usual poor performance.

The players need to keep this momentum and McClaren needs to keep the 442 system.

Will we see this against Man City?

  • 12 Tsunki // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:34 AM

I think the Perez/ Nitro pairing should be developed as the latter is looking like the perfect holding man for the former technicality. Not quite the same but almost a shearer sheringham idea. We’ll see. Would have taken your hand off at the knee for a 2-2 beforehand, don’t blame SM strangely because his subs were forced by our weird lack of fitness. But Chelsea can always call on top notch subs. Vast improvement.

  • 13 hibbit // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:35 AM

will die no one wanted him…..to sell you have to have a buyer no buyer no sale

  • 14 croftus5678 // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:36 AM

    2 motm’s for me

    mitrovic
    mbabu

one for his thankless workrate and effectiveness in defence and attack without getting the reward of a goal.

the other on his debut and was really not outclassed by one of the best teams in the world ! so strong and level headed for one so young that he has now passed lescalles in our current cb situation imo.

  • 15 croftus5678 // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:40 AM

    @will + hibbit

no worries lads we have a few players who’s contracts are coming to an end this season so as long as we dont do what we did with colo we should shorten that wage bill and create squad numbers for better players.

  • 16 mindshaft // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:41 AM

Decent debut for Mbabu , good to see Colo actually talking to him and telling positions to take – think it’s first time I’ve seen Colo actually talk on the pitch !
Janmaat was totally wrong footed for Chelsea’s first which was a bit annoying and not sure why we gave away a stupid free kick for 2nd – bit annoying that no defender or Krul went to attack ball from free kick – very soft goal
still, was expecting a hammering so a point and a better display was worthwhile

  • 17 Lindisfarne // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:42 AM

If Sissoko does actually want to get away, it is performances like yesterday that will do it and ensure his international place. The assumptoon that his performances would drop off again of he was still here next season IMO is based on the presumption that NUFC will not be challenging or not winning games.

Very few players can operate above the level of their team and consistently carry them forward. Sissoko has the drive to be successful with a limited but effective set of skills, no one likes or enjoys being on a losing team. However, he is not undroppable and needs to be used appropriately, rather than flogging him in every match.

  • 18 Rotonda heights // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:43 AM

I can not understand the abeid or kemen sales and now aarons going on loan. Surely these guys were and are our very near future.

I guess the dead weight like Willo, Gouff, Tiote etc are much harder to shift but those youngsters should never have been moved out as very small financial sacrifices.

I loved 70 mins of last night. The commentator said he hoped we didn’t just try to hang on and sadly we paid the price for doing just that. Really gutting as we played so positively previous to that.

  • 19 hibbit // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:43 AM

croftus i do think thats what were working towards but sadly sissoko is not one of them

  • 20 Slank // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:43 AM

‘..MOTM……the crowd 100% support from start to finish amazing !!!..’

    Disagree with you there.

In the first half, yes there was 45 minutes of tremendous support.

But in the second half before Gini scored all I heard was the Chelsea fans. If I had closed my eyes I would have sworn I was at Stamford Bridge.

Does the club spike the half time drinks in the stadium with Valium ?

  • 21 will die for the toon army // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:44 AM

Wijnaldum has found his place at the wing. He is a ball winner and fast. No a grifter as a CM in the EPL is suppossed to be.

Look at the Ramirez goal if it was Colback he wld have thrown himself to stop that shot. Wijnaldum jst stood.

  • 22 hibbit // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:46 AM

rotonda both leeds and boro wanted willo but the club refused to sell or loan dont know why

  • 23 Slank // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:48 AM

    mindshaft

From what I could see and the commentator on BBC said more or less the same that the ball spun away from Janmaat but there is no denying that it was a tremendous strike from distance with no fault on our defence.

  • 24 OneAlanShearer // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:49 AM

Good performance all round although obertan was rubbish when he came on. I’d still try thauvin instead at that late stage. I get why schteve tried him though to stretch the game and keep the ball up the other end but he doesn’t offer a footballing brain to go with it.

It also showed the lack of depth in defensive midfield. We need another defensive midfielder but one who can pass the ball forward.

Mitrovic played well and on another day could have scored.

Krul made some very good saves.

Perez is an outstanding talent that we have to keep.

442 has to be our formation. It suits our current set of players.

Hope we can keep the good performances going as wins will come.

  • 25 hibbit // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:51 AM

slank not sure were you were in the the ground but the support was 100% from start to finish

  • 26 Lindisfarne // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:52 AM

NUFC should have better Central Defenders than Williamson and Taylor but we can not have T without W as cheap cover.

  • 27 Slank // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:52 AM

will die for the toon army @ 21

Totally agree on both your points.

Our defence were lined up but there was a gap where Colback would normally have been and Ramirez made the most of it with a superb strike.

  • 28 nut meg // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:53 AM

Anyone know how many free kicks were awarded for fouls against Mitrovic yesterday…..not important I”m just curious as it seemed a lot.

lindisfarne taylor is not cheap way overpaid

  • 30 will die for the toon army // Sep 27, 2015 at 9:59 AM

Sissoko is like Colo. You look around and you see no one better than him then u keep him on pitch. And I think he is the French leader so wen he sits then we will have a revolt. All we will have to sell all the French speaking players.

I also dont think the French speaking players r happy now at NUFC.
    1. Sissoko
    2. Thauvin
    3. Goufrann
    4. Haidara
    5. Tiote
    6. Cissse
    7. Marveaux
    8. Obertan

They have all been side lined. Sissoko is e only one who is still guaranteed a place.

  • 31 Slank // Sep 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM

    OneAlanShearer @ 24

I don’t think we need another defensive midfielder. I’m sure in desperate situations Mbemba could easily and effortlessly slot into that role.

But I do agree with you that what we need is someone one who can pass the ball forward. We need a Cabaye / Fabregas / Shelvey type player who can spray the passes with accuracy.

I don’t think Gini is that type of player.

  • 32 OneAlanShearer // Sep 27, 2015 at 10:02 AM

I would normally agree that hanging on to what we have would seem a mistake on the face of it but the lads were shattered. If we had kept running at them we would likely have been caught on the break. Perez was dead on his feet. I can only think aarons must have a horrendous attitude to be loaned out as he was the perfect sub we didn’t have. If we can get to January in a reasonable position we have to buy another centre back. Full back cover.a defensive midfield playmaker. Another striker. Better cover for Krul. Dump the dross players.

  • 33 Malta Mag // Sep 27, 2015 at 10:06 AM

The support yesterday throughout the ground but in particular in the Gallowgate corner was absolutely top rate and has to be encouraged because when the noise is at that level SJP is scary!! Please Mr Ashley make note because you have the most passionate fans in the country at your disposal so use them.
