Newcastle Concentrate On Signing Young British Players

10:39 pm, Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 1 Comment

Newcastle seem to be concentrating on keeping tabs on some young British players these days and the Chronicle is reporting that one such player is 18 year-old Newport County striker Aaron Collins.

And the young striker seems to be attracting some attention because four other Premier League clubs apart from Newcastle are also interested in signing the young Welsh U19 striker.

Maybe it’s because Newcastle have been pleased by what they’ve already seen from 19 year-old Ivan Toney that has persuaded them to look at more young British players.

Burnley are said to have already made an approach for the player while Manchester United are one of the clubs said to be interested in Collins.

Newport manager and former England captain  and center back Terry Butcher talked about the offer

“The offer came in from Burnley but it didn’t match our valuation. He came to see me and I think his head was a bit fuzzy because of all the interest.”

Bt we told him that we value him very highly and the offers from Burnley didn’t match the valuation that we’ve put on him.”

Newcastle could be weighing up a bid for the 18 year-old in January.

The youngster has so far played only 12 times for his home town club, with two goals and advanced through the Newport County Youth Academy.

However Newcastle are timing their interest well with the youngster’s contract running out next June, so we could well see Newcastle move in for the youngster in January.

A decent offer to Newport could see the striker be on Newcastle’s books before the end of January.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

We need proven players with pace.

I am all for looking to the future but these players won’t help us if we are playing in the sky first division
