Jack Colback seems to be touch and go for the game at the Etihad tomorrow and when assistant coach Paul Simpson was interviewed on nufcTV a few days ago he said the local lad was a major doubt for the game.
If Jack cannot make it there are a number of players who can play in the holding role for Newcastle including even captain Fabricio Coloccini.
Cheick Tiote – in action last season
Cheick Tiote has already received some criticism this season when he was accused by a Sky Sports pundit of not particularly wanting to play for Newcastle and even poisoning the dressing room, but that particular story was rubbished rather quickly by head coach Steve McClaren.
Cheick can still do a job for us this season and he’s fit again – and we should hear more from Steve McClaren today about the Ivory Coast International when he gives his press confidence.
There is a chance that McClaren could recall the Ivory Coast International and start him tomorrow against Manchester City.
That’s what the Shields Gazette are reporting – if Jack Colback cannot make the game tomorrow.
Cheick has lots of experience and has made 134 appearances for the Magpies since he signed for us back in August, 2010 for £3.5M from FC Twente and that was after having helped the Dutch club win their first and only Eredivisie title under Steve McClaren.
It will be good to get Cheick fit again and have him challenging for a first team spot again and he still has two years left on his Newcastle contract.
Cheick has played 53 times for the Ivory Coast and hopefully he is chomping at the bit to get back into Newcastle’s first team starting line-up.
Cheick played only 12 times for us last season after picking up a knee injury at the African Cup of Nations last January and he so far has 3 appearances for us this season.
