Netherlands Win – Wijnaldum Scores But Krul Injured

Goals from Newcastle’s Georginio Wijnaldum and Wesley Sneijder were enough to give the Netherlands a good 2-1 win in Kazakhstan tonight but Tim Krul, who started the game, was taken off with an injury to his right knee after 81 minutes – so that’s not good news.

Tim was replaced by Jeroen Zoet.

Tim Krul – injured in second half

It’s not known how serious the knee injury is,  but he was taken off – maybe as a precaution – but the 27 year-old looked to be in some pain.

Both Tim Krul and Georgino Wijnaldum both  for the Netherlands in what was a vital game  tonight in Kazakhstan if they have any chance of making third place in Group A and qualify for the European 2016 Championship Finals in France next summer.

Before this game started the Netherlands were in 4th place and two points behind Turkey in Group A.

Wijnaldum went close after 25 minutes with a header from the center of the box from a good Anwar El Ghazi cross.

Then the classy Georginio Wijnaldum put the Netherlands ahead after 33 minutes with a good left footed shot into the right-hand corner to give Netherlands the lead.

Five minutes into the second half and it was Wesley Sneijder who scored with a nice left footed shot high into the net to put the Netherlands 2-0 up.

But then with the Netherlands holding onto their lead fairly easily the Newcastle goalkeeper sustained a knee injury and that’s not good news for Newcastle.

He was given attention on the field but he was in pain and replaced by Jeroen Zoet who was making his first full appearance for his country.

Then four minutes into the allotted 5 minutes of stoppage time Kazakhstan scored a late consolation goal through Kuat.

The Netherlands are now 3rd top of Group A on 13 points one point above Turkey who play at the Czech Republic later tonight.

Let’s hope it’s not bad news on Tim.

Comments welcome.
