Netherlands Win – Wijnaldum Scores But Krul Injured

Goals from Newcastle’s Georginio Wijnaldum and Wesley Sneijder were enough to give the Netherlands a good 2-1 win in Kazakhstan tonight but Tim Krul, who started the game, was taken off with an injury to his right knee after 81 minutes – so that’s not good news.

Tim was replaced by Jeroen Zoet.

Tim Krul – injured in second half

It’s not known how serious the knee injury is,  but he was taken off – maybe as a precaution – but the 27 year-old looked to be in some pain.

Both Tim Krul and Georgino Wijnaldum both  for the Netherlands in what was a vital game  tonight in Kazakhstan if they have any chance of making third place in Group A and qualify for the European 2016 Championship Finals in France next summer.

Before this game started the Netherlands were in 4th place and two points behind Turkey in Group A.

Wijnaldum went close after 25 minutes with a header from the center of the box from a good Anwar El Ghazi cross.

Then the classy Georginio Wijnaldum put the Netherlands ahead after 33 minutes with a good left footed shot into the right-hand corner to give Netherlands the lead.

Five minutes into the second half and it was Wesley Sneijder who scored with a nice left footed shot high into the net to put the Netherlands 2-0 up.

But then with the Netherlands holding onto their lead fairly easily the Newcastle goalkeeper sustained a knee injury and that’s not good news for Newcastle.

He was given attention on the field but he was in pain and replaced by Jeroen Zoet who was making his first full appearance for his country.

Then four minutes into the allotted 5 minutes of stoppage time Kazakhstan scored a late consolation goal through Kuat.

The Netherlands are now 3rd top of Group A on 13 points one point above Turkey who play at the Czech Republic later tonight.

Let’s hope it’s not bad news on Tim.

Comments welcome.

Note: Hi, my name is Ben Rushton, I am 6 years old and want to raise money for the McMillan Cancer Support.

I am going to climb Mount Snowdon with my Mum, Dad and Auntie Nic and I will do my very best to get to the top while keeping everyone updated on my way up. I will be doing this on 18th October 2015 in 2 weeks time.

Please see if you can donate here to help me help other people – thanks.

    Hey lads n lasses

Don’t know if anyone’s noticed but at the bottom of ed’s article there’s a piece about my little lad who’s climbing Snowdon for macmillan and it’d be great if anyone could spare some cash and make a donation for a worthwhile cause. No amount is too small.

He decided to do it, off his own back because his school friends nan has just been diagnosed with cancer.

Not sure if anyone will remember but I did mention on here he wasn’t very well not so long ago (fluid on his hip and had to have an operation) so it’s going to be a struggle for him plus he’s only 6 so any extra motivation would be great

Thanks to those who have already donated.

    Thanks guys,

Not worried about Tim being injured. With our defense, whoever comes in will be well covered.

AC…I see the lad has broken the £700 mark. Top stuff.
