Uncertainty About Newcastle’s Team Against Norwich

2:33 pm, Tuesday, October 13th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 3 Comments

The news today is that our number 9 Papiss Cisse is fit again and the Newcastle head coach has talked today about wanting to see how Mitrovic and Cisse can play together.

Certainly both Ayoze Perez and Papiss are both skillful players who can play off the powerful 6’2″ striker who has been in decent form for both Newcastle and Serbia since he returned from his three match ban for being sent off against Arsenal.

Papiss Cisse – after scoring in first game against Southampton

This is what Steve McClaren has said about Cisse today in the Chronicle:

“He’s another one who has undeservedly been getting criticism. This is football. With TV and everything now, they sensationalize everything.”

“The plus for me has been seeing Mitrovic and Ayo link up well, but also having Papiss there.”   “We did talk about at the beginning about Papiss and Mitrovic together.”

“I’d like to see them together.” “It’s not been possible so far but it could also be something for us.”

It’s very true that the news is sensationalized these days and it seems the press think they are in the entertainment business and therefore the TV news and things like that are very similar to reality shows.

With respect to Cisse we also think some of the negative news about him and also about Cheick Tiote are untrue – and it allows people to point the blame at some players for where we find ourselves today – bottom of the Premier League.

Our hope is still that players like Tiote and Cisse can start playing well and use their experience to help us get out of the hole we are in at the moment.

With Newcastle getting hammered last time out 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium, it’s going to be interesting to see what Steve McClaren’s team will be for Sunday’s game and whether Tiote and Cisse could start the game.

We’ll need to wait for Steve’s press conference later in the week so we know who’s fit.

But it looks like Rob Elliot will be in goal in place of the injured Tim Krul, who is out for the rest of the season with a serious ACL injury.

Hopefully the  29 year-old goalkeeper will be able to start putting in some good performances for the team

Comments welcome.

@Graeme – yeah I’ve shot with 2 Nigerian owned labels, one never paid, the other took 2 years… just a nightmare throughout. They were fairly big companies too….
Ahh well, still not the worst nation for doing business with. Vietnam by a country mile for me. Once had a West end based vietnamese company claim we agreed to shoot a catalogue for £40 when it was £4000….. played every single trick in the book, including claiming cultural misunderstandings, language misunderstandings etc

Cisse would need to be more profficient with the off-side rules to play off Mitro, although he is a good poacher of poke-in goals. I think Perez should remain up front with Mitro.
