Paul Simpson has given another interview on nufcTV and the assistant coach has previewed the upcoming game on Sunday at home to Norwich – and that´s a game where we can double the points we have so far this season.
With only 3 points in eight games and a 6-1 hammering at Manchester City last time out – it´s been a miserable time for Newcastle fans during this two week International break.
Paul Simpson – Norwich are a good team
It´s also been a time when we have had to look at the form of the team in the first eight games and wonder if this will be a season fighting relegation again.
The game on Sunday is a vital one and we have to try to get our first win of the season.
This is some of what Paul Simpson has told nufcTV:
“Norwich are a very good football side, I’ve got to say that to start with.” “They’ve got some match winners in there, some good players – but we’ve got to make sure we’re on our game as well.”
“This is a side that’s come into the Premier League, they’ve carried on with the momentum of getting promotion and they’ve still got that enthusiasm about them.”
“It’s up to us to knock that enthusiasm out of them.” “We’ve got to go and work unbelievably hard – harder than we’ve worked for seasons – we’ve got to go and do that starting against Norwich.”
“We’ve got to go and close people down, we’ve got to play football, we’ve got to be attacking, create opportunities, take our opportunities and not worry about what Norwich are going to do and really focus on ourselves and be positive about it.”
“We’ve got to not even worry about systems. I hear people saying we wanted two defensive midfielders at City – well we didn’t.”
“We went 4-4-1-1 with two midfielders who can try and get on the ball and push us forward.” “We went with wide players who can play, two strikers who can both link off each other Ayoze (Ayoze Perez) and Mitro (Aleksandar Mitrovic).”
“We’ll be looking to be positive again this weekend because I know we’ve got an opportunity in front of our own supporters.”
“If we can be positive and be lively and be enthusiastic then we’ve got a hell of a chance of getting our season going against Norwich.”
We cannot afford another defeat on Sunday, because things are already gloom and doom and we need a good result so we can start to get our act together and move up the table.
A win will give everybody some confidence – the players – the coaching staff and the fans.
